“Two,” was her immediate rejoinder. “Two apples. One for me and one for you.”
Though exactly how she was going to do that was still a bit up in the air. The apples, and therefore the orchard, were very important to the Aesir. Simply sneaking in wasn’t the easy matter it might seem on the surface. But perhaps she could use the guilt she though they should all be feeling to her advantage and actually emotionally blackmail Idunn. But that could take some time, and she didn’t know how much she’d have on this trip.
Which meant, Sigyn thought, that she would be doing this again. At least once more. Maybe if she could figure out how to do it well, she’d be able to sneak out and back in regularly. That would provide them with more comforts, and maybe a little physical ease would help Loki with the other pains he carried. Sigyn knew it was not handling it well, but that was hardly surprising to her. Women were always the ones that were stronger.
And now, she’d be strong for Loki as well as herself until she could get him back to himself. However long that took. And whatever it took to accomplish that. Sigyn was a very self-sufficient woman, her upbringing had made her pragmatic and self-reliant. She could see that was going to come in very handy now.
“I think,” she said slowly, “that we will start with the very basics. As you said. A blanket, some clothing for both of us, some toiletries.” Sigyn looked down at the face she loved so dearly, the face she needed to protect every day, all day, for eternity. “And that wooden shelf you built to go over the washing tub in the kitchen. Yes. That should be tall enough.”
