Mitchell had spent his day making sure his new flat was just so for his guests tonight and trying not to think too much about the fact that he had invited Lei Davies, his first serious love and the woman he thought would be the mother of his child for a short while, to look over his embarrassingly sparse living space to give him some decorating tips.
If Mitchell had been honest with himself, he would have admitted that his obsessive cleaning tonight was just as much for Lei as it was for his friends, neighbours and co-workers who would be arriving later this evening. He was not a messy person by any stretch of the imagination, but Mitchell was quite pleased with his new space, and wanted to show Lei how well he was doing via his living arrangements. Of course, it would be nice to show her that he had some flair for decoration as well, but that would defeat the purpose of her visit, and to be perfectly honest- Mitchell had a very small creative eye.
Even though he had been waiting for the knock on his front door practically all day, Mitchell still jumped slightly when he heard it. Coming through the living room and into the small foyer, Mitchell opened the door to see the woman a part of him would always love standing in front of him, laden down with bowls of food.
"Lei, this really is too much," Mitchell said by way of greeting. "Here- let me take some of those." And before she could utter a word Mitchell had taken some of the dishes of food she had prepared (sure to be far more delicious than he could ever make), and strode into the kitchen. "Kitchen is to your left," he called over his shoulder as he made his way into the room himself.
