Birthday BBQ + Camping
Who: Benji, Emilia, and open to friends and party crashers!
What: The Twins’ 30th birthday weekend

Things had started to shape up on the property. Since BBQ they had held when Emilia had gotten her medical license, not only had the demolition been finished completely, but two new structures had already been built and was slowly but surely beginning to resemble habitable houses. The firepit, the small table and chairs near the waterline and the couple of picnic tables with drink compartments that Benji had built were still there, and once again Benji had prepared the large grill so people could prepare and eat as it suited them.

Just like at the BBQ, there was a plethora of food and drinks, both in variety and quantity, though this time around, Emilia had rented a couple of refrigerators and a freezer, since it would be near impossible to keep the ice troughs filled on this bright and warm day – just the right kind of day for a dip in the lake. Music was playing from speakers, that someone had set up – Emilia wasn’t sure who, but it worked, and the outdoor shower with the full bathroom facility, was available for anyone who might need it. Fairy lights had been hung and would be turned on at dusk.

What was different from the BBQ though, was the tents that people had started pitching as they arrived. Their birthday wasn’t until tomorrow, and if today and tonight turned out just half as good as the majority of the BBQ had been, then Emilia – and to some extent Benji, too – didn’t see any reason why people should have to leave. Emilia had arranged for breakfast to be delivered – a tasty breakfast buffet from The Copper Kettle.

The dedication to his business venture was admirable, but even more, she loved that he seemed just as dedicated to his relationship. "You should!" she said encouragingly with a wistful little sigh at the romance of the idea. Niagara Falls had shown her that she very much loved little getaways with Jack, even if they'd started the trip as just friends.

At his urging, Simone walked over on her knees and picked up a couple of pieces, locking them together in the logical configuration. She could have peppered him with more questions while they worked, but she had a tendency to hyper focus when it came to physical tasks, a residual habit from her upbringing, and it didn't seem like Sam minded. "And look at that! A function tent!" she said, smiling widely at the simple pleasure of it, holding her hand up to high five Sam, a simple interaction that had taken her a little while to get used to when she'd left the commune.

Sam nodded. He might suggest it to Giulia later. She still had a few performances on the calendar but it would be easy enough to find some time where they could both get away. He could only hope Giulia was as enthused by the suggestion as Simone.

Once the tent was assembled, Sam stepped back to admire a job well done, hands on his hips. "Go team." He grinned and met her high five. "It shouldn't fall down on you tonight," Sam joked, sure it was as sturdy as his own tent. He hooked his thumbs in the pockets of his jeans. "Right, I should go find Giulia, maybe get a drink. I'll let you get settled in."
