The simple question startled her, was he really just here for a drink? "More in recent months." Vague, yes. But there was little she wanted to talk about as to the why when there were no answers to be given to the inevitable followup questions. "They're great for a quiet dinner after work."

He didn't ask about dinner. He asked about drink recommendations. "I'd steer clear of the rainbow shots." She puckered her lips. "They've got too much sweetness for me. They have a wonderful selection of whiskey and scotches, the kinds that are good straight." She'd found one that Lysette kept stocked that served as the one drink when she didn't want beer, and she had become intimately dependent on it recently. She leaned forward pushing her glass the the edge of the bar, "I don't think I've seen you here before. Are you from the area?" Somewhere in the corners of her mind she thought she might notice him if she'd seen him around if she hadn't been so preoccupied on making it day by day.

That initial answer was loaded, and Corbin filed it away. "Ahh, and what is it you do?" he asked, thinking it was fair for him to ask since she'd brought it up.

There was something validating in the way she responded, always enjoying having his expectations confirmed. "Mm, that is good to know. I do enjoy a good scotch." Whiskey too, but scotch was better, in his opinion. One dark eyebrow curved up at her observation, a small smirk playing on his lips. It was rare he got that question worded in that way, as typically people observed that he wasn't from the area after a comment on his accent. But she also had an accent, if more muted than his own, as if she'd grown up multilingual in more than one country. "I am not," he confirmed. "I'm from Somerset, England." He'd not lived there full time in many years, but he still claimed it as home and probably always would. "And you?"

"I'm a teacher at the local High School." She paused. "Here in Sleepy Hollow, not Tarrytown."

Scotch was an acquired taste, one that the men in her family seemed to have that she couldn't quite get. "I have family in England still that we split time with over the years. At this point I'm more American at this point, but there's still a hint of accent I've never been able to shake." Not that she wanted to. It made her unique, and provided a reason for her to laugh at herself when introducing herself to a new class of students. "And what do you do?"
