Corbin & Tam

Arriving in Tarrytown earlier in the week, Corbin had flown to the house he'd visited only once before, curious if it was still home to various bird shifters. Perched on the mailbox, he had watched the house, dark eyes darting while the rest of his bird form stayed unnaturally still. For hours, he sat and watched, noting those who came and went, particularly fascinated by the golden eagle which flew from a skylight on the roof. That was one he didn't recognize, though there was something familiar about... No, probably not.

He would return, he decided as the sky started to darken, stormy clouds gathering over the horizon, though he wasn't sure when. For tonight, though, he was checking out the local watering holes, and his first stop was Hollow Hill, a place he remembered from his last visit to Tarrytown. The place still had that old world charm to it, with the dark woods and low, warm lighting. It was decorated with pride rainbows, in a way that was tasteful rather than garish, and he walked through the bar, barely more than a shadow with his black slacks and button-down, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Corbin sat himself on the only open stool at the bar, waiting patiently for a bartender to take his order, glancing to his right to give the woman seated there a friendly nod of acknowledgement.

There was something comforting about Hollow Hill, it reminded her of the pubs back home when she visited. She'd found herself there more and more since Jack was killed. It was as though the flame that kept the smile on her face was snuffed out. She kept a particular countenance at school, stoic and professional. Anything to just get through the day, her students had noticed the difference as the small scale models she utilized stayed in the cupboards replaced by crude drawings of plate movements that looked more like a jumble of jagged lines.

She'd tried tonight. Dressed up and found herself sitting at the bar instead of tucked away into a dark corner for a drink and a quick meal. She smiled at the gentleman that sat next to her, dark attentive eyes that she was sure would follow her around the room if she moved. "Hi." She nodded back, he looked dressed for a date.

The woman had a beautiful smile, though he couldn't help but note that it didn't quite reach her eyes. It instantly made him want to know why. Was she just weary of strange men--or masculine presenting persons--in bars? Perfectly understandable, even if Corbin knew he was no threat to her. Or perhaps she was processing something in her life and attempting to use liquor to help the process along. The question was, as it always was, did he want to try to figure it out?

He enjoyed puzzles, and what were strangers except fascinating new puzzles?

"Hello," he returned her greeting. He spoke in a warm British accent, his voice deep and velvety. "Do you come here often? Is there a drink you might recommend?" he asked, having found through his travels that most people seemed to love offering suggestions.

The simple question startled her, was he really just here for a drink? "More in recent months." Vague, yes. But there was little she wanted to talk about as to the why when there were no answers to be given to the inevitable followup questions. "They're great for a quiet dinner after work."

He didn't ask about dinner. He asked about drink recommendations. "I'd steer clear of the rainbow shots." She puckered her lips. "They've got too much sweetness for me. They have a wonderful selection of whiskey and scotches, the kinds that are good straight." She'd found one that Lysette kept stocked that served as the one drink when she didn't want beer, and she had become intimately dependent on it recently. She leaned forward pushing her glass the the edge of the bar, "I don't think I've seen you here before. Are you from the area?" Somewhere in the corners of her mind she thought she might notice him if she'd seen him around if she hadn't been so preoccupied on making it day by day.

That initial answer was loaded, and Corbin filed it away. "Ahh, and what is it you do?" he asked, thinking it was fair for him to ask since she'd brought it up.

There was something validating in the way she responded, always enjoying having his expectations confirmed. "Mm, that is good to know. I do enjoy a good scotch." Whiskey too, but scotch was better, in his opinion. One dark eyebrow curved up at her observation, a small smirk playing on his lips. It was rare he got that question worded in that way, as typically people observed that he wasn't from the area after a comment on his accent. But she also had an accent, if more muted than his own, as if she'd grown up multilingual in more than one country. "I am not," he confirmed. "I'm from Somerset, England." He'd not lived there full time in many years, but he still claimed it as home and probably always would. "And you?"

"I'm a teacher at the local High School." She paused. "Here in Sleepy Hollow, not Tarrytown."

Scotch was an acquired taste, one that the men in her family seemed to have that she couldn't quite get. "I have family in England still that we split time with over the years. At this point I'm more American at this point, but there's still a hint of accent I've never been able to shake." Not that she wanted to. It made her unique, and provided a reason for her to laugh at herself when introducing herself to a new class of students. "And what do you do?"

Dawn + open

Dawn had always enjoyed Pride celebrations working in hospitality, seeing the way people celebrated and expressed themselves in way that made them happy, though it hadn't been until sometime after last year's Pride that she had started to explore her own sexuality. Pride this year was going to be very different for her, not just because of that. Big parties were always a double-edged sword these days, bringing an underlying current of anxiety that she could lose control with so many people around. Even that fancy gala had been fun but put her on edge as though she could feel Gabriel there somehow.

There didn't seem to be anything demon-y in the air tonight, although Dawn was slowly losing the will to live with tonight's drink special. She usually didn't mind their themed drinks but layered rainbow shots might just deserve a special place in hell, particularly when they were being offered on a Saturday night.

When the next customer got to the bar, Dawn's smile said 'welcome' but her eyes said 'order the rainbow shots and I'll take five years off your life'. "What can I get started for you?"

Did it feel good to get out of the city? Yes. But it was also mildly terrifying. This was new and different and unknown, and Natalie didn't always do well with unknowns. Yet as she walked into Hollow Hill and saw the Pride theme a day early, it immediately put her at ease, as if this was her favorite bar back home that had just had a makeover. The advertised rainbow shot looked quite festive and delicious, and she could admit that she was sorely tempted.

When she got to the bar and the gorgeous blonde tending it smiled at her, she offered a small smile in return. "Could I get a mojito, please?" she asked, falling back on her favorite summer drink if only because she wanted to have something to hold and sip on rather than a shot she would knock back in one go.

"Ooh, fun. Good choice." Dawn mentally checked through the ingredients, starting to gather the mint, sugar and lime to muddle them. "One mojito coming right up." She was looking forward to some of the more summery cocktails coming back into popularity with the warm weather and making a mojito made a nice change from tonight's pride drinks.

Dawn peeked at the woman as she began making the drink, an instinctual part of her reaching out for the tiniest of tastes, her magic feeding back that the woman was human. "That shirt is so cute," she said, admiring the floral layers. "Are you out with friends tonight?"

Ángel + Open

Ángel didn't care for the rainbow themed drinks, or overly complicated cocktails that the bars and restaurants. A few simple beers and a pack of smokes had been enough since he finished his degree. The office was abuzz with the events in the City starting up, and discussion of meeting up amidst the festivities and event throughout the month.

"Thanks,' his hands spinning the draft glass in his hand. Hollow Hill still carried one of his favorite beers he's insisted they only served in his neighborhood's bar back home in Brooklyn. A quick sip followed by a hum, deliciously cold.
