Elle Bishop ([info]frayed_fuse) wrote in [info]heroes_rpg,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Elle Bishop, Luke Campbell, Gabriel "Sylar" Gray, and an NPC Baby Noah
Where: Gabriel apartment
When: Four hours after eating at the diner.
Why: To unite a family, test Gabriel, and dramatics
Open: Only to those listed above
Rating: I’d think medium?

Elle was extremely tense as she walked up the stairwell with Noah on her hips and Luke behind her. She was able to move up the stairs faster then him since he was weighted down with bags. He offered, more out of consideration, but Elle took full advantage of it and loaded the poor teenager down with bags.

Elle knew she was playing with fire and hoped like hell that Noah and herself wouldn’t be burnt, but she wanted this! Especially after meeting Luke and hearing how he was left alive. Even though she was tremendously jealous, she knew if Gabriel would let this kid live after seeing him again, she’d stay.

Yes, it was a trap for both of them, but she had to know! Elle needed to know that they could try to mend the broken pieces and be a family. Luke’s life hung on the edge by her curiosity, but it was worth it for Noah could have the life that Elle and Gabriel both always wanted. However, if Luke died, Elle and Noah were going to leave and weren’t coming back.

Her and Gabriel had a lot to work through, but as of now, Noah will have his father in his life. She secretly prayed in her mind that in the next few minutes she could say keep saying that.

As she stopped on the second floor, Noah kept repeating “ma ma ma ma” over again for he wanted to be put down and Elle looked at him with a smile and then placed a finger to his lips for him to stop babbling. She turned and looked back down saw Luke struggling. She felt sorry for him, to her he seemed like a good kid, just misguided and she almost, just almost felt bad for putting him through this plan. However, she needed to know though, she needed to see, that Gabriel had changed. You could tell anyone something, but to show it was true would prove it.

“He is in C.” she called down to him and then disappeared to look for his apartment. Once she was at the door, she sighed, and then sat Noah down straighten out his outfit and pulling down her shirt. She had kicked the mat and noticed a key. “Your daddy is such a dork.” she commented to Noah as she picked up the key and then looked at the door.

In a quick swoop, Noah was back on her hips and she unlocked the door. “Hello…” she said softly as she let herself in the apartment. It beat waiting nervously if she had knocked and waited for him to answer. She walked in, slid the key in her pocket as she looked around, the apartment looked nice. Noah hugged on to her tightly and Elle put a finger to her mouth as she listened to whistling and followed it through the apartment.

The whistling lead her to a room in the back and Elle peeked her head around to see a nursery fully set up. She was astonished at the sight since Gabriel went all out! Really, she shouldn’t have been so shocked. She knew he would go overboard. She brought her mouth down to Noah’s little ear and whispered something repeatedly. She knew he wouldn’t make the connection yet, but he was old enough to duplicate simple two-letter word when told. Noah cooed and then said “Da Da.” Elle smirked as she looked at Gabriel since they got his attention. “Hey you!" she chimed sweetly, but then she added "Really, a key under the mat? I know you are powerful and all, however you are aware there are sociopaths running around in the world?” she asked as she smiled brightly as him.

He was never, never offering to help anyone again. Luke figured the least he could do was offer a hand since she'd been nice enough to drive him all the way to New York and hadn't tried to ditch him at the first gas station they came across. It was a lot more than he'd grown to expect from a person. He couldn’t have guessed, at the time, that Elle had some kind of ulterior motive for bringing him along. From where he stood the only ulterior motive seemed to be loading him up with every single bag she had in her car and making him climb up the stairs to the apartment. He was having a hard time of it and he probably looked ridiculous. This was the last time he ever offered to do something for someone else.

Finally managing to make it half way up the stairs, he heard her call back to him from the floor above and nodded. She was heading into C, he’d have to remember that. He didn’t want to accidentally walk up to the wrong door and scare somebody. Dropping a bag, Luke let out a silent curse before turning around and walking back down to grab it. As much as he loved being able to microwave things sometimes he wished his powers were a little more useful. Telekinesis would be an amazing power to have. It certainly would make getting Elle’s bags up the stairs a lot easier. If he had control over it, like he did with his own power, he probably could’ve been up there by now.

After what seemed like an eternity of back and forth he finally managed to get his grip upon the bags once again and made it up the stairs. Seeing Elle in the hall he offered her a smile. “It took a little longer but I got it. It’s just this one right here?” He asked, nodding towards the open door with his head. Turning from her he walked right into the apartment and looked around as best as he could. It seemed nice enough. Okay, so he was in and she hadn’t followed him so far. There was something slightly worrisome about that but Luke was a little too focused on figuring out where to put everything. As much as he’d love to just dump it all on the floor, he figured that wasn’t the best place for it.

“Hello?” he called softly as he walked towards the back room, the colors of the nursery catching his attention before he noticed the other person in the room. Turning towards the man he smiled, ready to offer an introduction and an embarrassed apology for simply walking this far into his home. When he finally looked up at the other man’s face, his expression quickly changed from an embarrassed smile to one of shock and anger, maybe even a little fear. This wasn’t how he’d wanted to find this man. No wonder Elle talked so much about Sylar, she was setting him up. Betrayal stung but it was his own fault. He was stupid to be careless enough to trust her. Women were like that.

Dropping the bags on the floor, Luke turned to run. He knew what Sylar was capable of. It was part of the reason he hadn’t been too interested in going up against him. Sure, Petrelli had made revenge sound nice and everything but Luke hadn’t really cared he'd just wanted out of the cells.

Friend of ours? The number of people that fit into that category were slim to none that Sylar could think of, and unless Elle had run into Peter on her way here, he couldn't for the life of him think of exactly who she might be talking about. His train of thought was derailed, however, by the affection, and he figured that it wasn't worth worrying about. If Elle trusted the person enough to help, he probably did as well.

The familiar voice that hit his ears, however, was not one that he was expecting to hear. His attention jerked towards the new arrival, eyes wide as he realized just who it was that Elle was talking about. "Luke," Sylar's voice snapped as he reached out, his telekinesis snagging the boy before he was able to get too far, tossing him back into the overstuffed arm chair that had been set up in the nursery across from the crib, holding him there and tilting his head to the side as he examined his former companion.

"What are you doing here?" Sylar asked, sounding more annoyed than angry. "It's been over a year. If it really took you that long to track me down...." Sylar trailed off, eyeing Luke for a long moment before his telekinesis eased off. "You look like shit."

Letting out a silent "oof" as he was tossed into an arm chair, Luke glared up at Sylar. This was all a little too familiar for his liking. Too reminiscent of the day they met. The only difference had to be the lack of a hostage and his mother. He remained silent for the most part, attempting to move his hand every so often. If he could just break free a little maybe he could fight back.

"Thanks to you!" He snapped. When the telekinetic hold eased off Luke reacted immediately, lifting his hand and sending a strong burst of his powers directly at Sylar, he was a much better aim then he had been back then. It was enough to hurt, maybe boil the blood a little and burn him from the inside out, since microwaves heated the deeper tissue first. "You left me! You abandoned me in the middle of nowhere without even a cell phone!" Not that it mattered there was no service out where they were. They'd been as far away from everything as humanly possible.

"When I finally made it back there was a van waiting for me full of those guys. Why would I want to find you?" He pulled his hand back and blinked, he hadn't really meant to hurt him too much. That was never the idea. He'd just meant to hurt him enough to get away. He stared at Sylar for a moment, watching as he healed before thinking to try and get away again. He'd forgotten Sylar could heal, that anything he did to the older man wouldn't last for very long. Sylar could still kill him though. Maybe he should've just gone for the eyes and blinded him for awhile instead of aiming at his arm. Once again he was running, him clumsy pace sending him tripping over the bags he'd dropped in the doorway

He had. He'd abandoned Luke, left him in the middle of nowhere next to that brokedown shack filled with horrible memories because of an imagined betrayal, a sheer exasperation with the situation, and because he had been running on emotion and instinct rather than the logic that he prided himself on. It hadn't crossed his mind that Luke might have difficulty getting anywhere with nothing even remotely in the area until it had been far too late to do anything about it. And even then, whether he had cared or not, he hadn't felt the need to turn around and go out of his way to change it.

The blood that blossomed on his shirt as Luke used his ability on him soaked through the cloth, provoking a sharp wince before it healed over leaving nothing more than the stain to prove that something had actually happened. Before he had a proper chance to respond, Luke was running again, and Sylar reached out, grabbing him again and slamming him back against the wall, holding him there.

"Don't run," Sylar growled as he moved from the nursery into the main living area where Luke was being held, positioned just perfectly on the wall between two windows and two bookcases. "Prey runs. Stand your ground until all other options are exhausted," He said, getting just close enough to where Luke was pinned to make sure that he wouldn't be able to get away if he tried to run again before dropping him once more. "Clearly there were a few things that I forgot to tell you."

"How'd you get away if they picked you up?" Sylar asked, a heavy frown on his face as the fridge in the kitchenette opened, the ice tray moving out of the freezer and dropping into an ice bag that moved from the cabinet. Hovering over to Sylar, he caught it from the air before holding it out to Luke. "Some of those bruises look fresh."

She stood outside in the hall entertaining Noah. The door was open though so she could halfway hear them in the nursery. She waited for the screaming. Elle had hope for none, and was pleased when there wasn’t any. However, when she heard a scuffle Elle was too curious to not see what was going on so she poked her head in to see that Luke tripped over himself on her bags and then she moved back in the hall. “Idiot” she muttered to Noah.

She knew this moment would be the breaking point. Sylar normally didn’t toy with his kills. So as he came behind Luke, slammed him against the wall, she cringed slightly at the noise as she looked down at Noah and hoisted him more up on his hip. She waited for it to happen, she just knew if he was still Sylar that the finger would be in the air and started to slice then she was going to run.

However when she heard him speak, telling Luke not to run, schooling him? Wait… did he just say he failed to mention a few things? Had Sylar been teaching him things all long? Hmm… that would have been an interesting fact to know before she did this.

When she heard movement, curiosity got the best of her again, so Elle stuck her head in and noticed Sylar was getting something out of the fridge. She figured from there things were safe by that action, if he was going to kill the poor kid, he would have by now.

Yes, Elle had set them up. Did she feel bad about it, not at all! Luke was still alive and Sylar was talking/taking care of him, not killing him. Clearly a plus for everyone as Elle stepped back in the door, kicked it shut behind her, “Nathan Petrelli, let him go,” she answered for Luke as she moved beside Gabriel.

She smirked at the boy against the wall, “Don’t look at me like that, I told you, you were going to a very unfriendly place.” she reminded him with a shrug of her shoulders and then turned back to Gabriel. “He actually looked worse when I met him at the diner. I told him we could try helping him. We both know how it is within the system as an agent and…” she waved her free hand in the air as if he knew what she was talking about so she didn‘t have to say it with Noah in her arms. “Plus he is just a kid, I couldn’t leave him there.” Elle had gotten soft and it showed, but motherhood was to blame.

She looked between the pair and rolled her eyes. Okay so she was more then jealous, especially now seeing them together, perhaps this was a bad idea on her end for secretly her sadistic side wished for Sylar to come out and prove there was nothing worthy of having this kid alive for. “Just play nicely with Noah now the apartment.” she warned him, well both of them and with that, she with Noah still on her hip wandered off to the kitchen for Noah needed to be fed.

Damn that power. He really should’ve gone for the eyes… or found a way to make sure it took some time before Sylar could lecture him again. He’d deal with being telekinetically slammed against a wall, he’d even deal with the certain death which he’d been told follows being slammed against a wall as long as Sylar wasn’t lecturing him. “No… you didn’t go over that one.” Of course this was the first time Sylar had ever referred to anything as ‘prey’. Maybe he’d actually met his father and that had changed some sort of outlook on the way things worked. Luke couldn’t be too sure what the older man had been doing in the year he’d been away but he wasn’t about to ask. Maybe he finally understood what Luke had been trying to tell him all along: Samson Gray was a jerk.

He was a little wary about the ice pack, even though he knew there was nothing wrong with it. He’d seen the older man prepare it right in front of him but after months being around men you just couldn’t trust he was suspicious of anything that was simply offered to him. After a moment’s hesitation he took the ice pack and pressed it to one of his more prominent bruises. Since being cleaned up some of them seemed to stand out a little more than the others. Staring up at Sylar for a moment, Luke opened his mouth to try and explain everything when Elle walked in and answered for him. “Yeah, that Petrelli guy. I guess his name was Nathan. They kept calling him Senator.” He turned back to Elle, shooting her a look. “Okay, you said unfriendly but there’s a difference between unfriendly and possibly hostile. If I knew you were coming to New York to see Sylar I would’ve found some other way.”

With Noah now in the house, Luke couldn’t bring himself to try and attack Sylar again. While he wasn’t too sure he could say he got to know Elle on much of any level he was fond of the kid. Though… the fact that he was starting to recognize the three of them as a happy yet dysfunctional family was beginning to weigh heavily upon his nerves. He couldn’t hang around little family settings like this, most of them had this strange way of making him simultaneously sick and angry. This one just made him feel like some kind of intruder.

Pulling himself up off the ground he shrugged. “Yeah… well… he let me out and said as long as I did as I was told I didn’t have to go back. No more guards taking punches when they know you can’t fight back, no more testing of the latest equipment, and no more metal cells which spark and burn the minute you try and fight back. So far the only thing he wanted me to do was get to New York.”

"Nathan. Why am I not surprised?" Sylar asked, doubling back and away from the wall so that Luke wasn't fenced in anymore. He hoped now that Luke understood enough now to know that he didn't have to run that he wouldn't try it again. If anything, that was the last thing he needed to do anyway in this shape. "And you really believe that? He's a Petrelli. He's learned how to lie and manipulate from the best. The second he gets what he wants from you, you're going right back to wherever he let you out of," He said, raking a hand through his hair in exasperation before dropping down onto one of the chairs in the living room.

"They weren't supposed to be doing this anymore," Sylar said as he looked over at Luke. "You've been locked up practically since I left you behind?" He asked, a quiet horror in his tone and something that appeared to be guilt in his expression. That hadn't been what he'd intended at all. If he'd even thought that Luke would have just gotten himself locked right back up again... Well, he still would have left him behind because if he'd taken him along, it just would have been something for his father to use against him. But he would have (perhaps) given it a bit more thought before ditching the kid.

"I've only got the two rooms, but you're welcome to the couch while you figure out what you're going to do."

It wasn't like Luke likely had money for a hotel.

“You do realize he is a liability.” Elle voice came from the kitchen and then there she was, teetering between the kitchen and the living room so she could watch Noah as he munched on dry cereal and listen.

She looked at Luke and then Gabriel “Only a handful of people knew I was alive, none knew I have a child,” she pointed out “The last thing a Petrelli needs is to know is that there’s a child, especially Angelia.” That was something Gabriel and Elle really needed to speak about, she needed to know everything that happened and work out what they should do next.

She looked back to Luke and then suggested to Gabriel “Why don’t you give him the nursery for now, he’s been in a cage out in the open, his own space would probably be mentally better for him. Noah and I can move into your room,” for she wasn’t letting Noah out of her sights for awhile anyways and then a small smirk played on her lips “you can have the couch.” She figured he was more then likely cursing at her in his mind, but Elle also knew he wouldn’t be staying on the couch.

She moved back to the kitchen “Are you hungry, I am going to fix something to eat. I can fix you something as well if you like as well Luke,” she called out. Granted she normally wouldn’t have offered that, but she liked Luke, even if she did set him up to die. No one deserved the life she and Sylar had. Plus Sylar had deemed him worthy of living twice so there must be something special about the boy.

Luke sighed as he looked up at Sylar, his expression unreadable. "I don't trust anyone at this point." Present company included, of course. Sure, he liked Elle enough but after this he wasn't about to trust her again. Of the three people he found himself surrounded by the only person he could trust was Noah and that had more to do with him being a baby than anything else. Noah was an innocent. Then again, out of everyone present in the house he was the only one who really was. Luke had killed to help Sylar out, he'd killed again at the facility where he'd been kept. "I don't know any of the Petrellis. You two seem to but after all of this..." he waved his hands in the air as if the gesture could sum up everything he'd been through with the two of them, "I honestly don't know what to believe. The only thing I know is that I'm no longer in that box... and that this Senator guy is somewhere in New York." They'd never told him where though. The realization sent a cold creeping sort of fear through his spine which flowed through him and settled into his bones. What did that mean? Was there someone out there, even now, waiting for some sign of him wandering around New York? Was the Senator watching everything through some kind of surveillance system somewhere? He hadn't seen too much of their control room but he knew what the set up had to look like.

"From where I was... it never seemed like they stopped. There was a day when things got worst. Shouts, arguments, angry whispers... I heard some guy was killed by a group of people with abilities. It wasn't a good night for anyone. Before that everything was, well it still sucked but it wasn't as bad. We were prisoners and being held without reason but it was reminiscent of that night I spent in Juvie. The guards hate you and treat you like shit but you're not mistreated. After that guy died whoever was in charge just stopped caring. These days it's kind of a quiet operation. Like they're getting ready for something." He hadn't been told what though. Just that he should get to New York. It was almost like they were gathering people to them, getting ready for something big.

The tone of Sylar's voice caught him off guard and Luke stared at him in silent confusion for a moment. He recognized the expression and the tone but it wasn't something he was used to, nothing he ever expected from Sylar. "Yeah... sort of. I was unconcious for some of it. That stuff they put you on really knocks you out, but I was mostly there." He turned away to look back towards the kitchen where Elle had disappeared with Noah. "I guess I was kind of stupid for getting myself picked up again, huh?" He murmured, giving Sylar an out. He could blame it on himself if it meant that odd out of place look of guilt disapppeared. Even after all he'd been through and the anger he'd felt at the older man he was surprised to find a part of him that still looked up to Sylar. He'd been the first one he'd met who was just like him. He understood... even if he hadn't really.

He frowned as Elle walked back into the room. A liability? It was like she was trying to get him killed! "I don't know Angela or any of the other Petrellis. I hardly even know where Nathan is... and like I'd really say anything." She was lucky he seemed to think pretty highly of her as well because he was starting to like her a little less. "Besides... you really think I want anything happening to Noah? I like the little guy." Which was saying something. Peeking around the corner into the kitchen he smiled. Yes, he genuinely liked the kid. He wouldn't let anything happen to him... or do anything that would cause something to happen to him.

"You know, neither of you really have to worry about putting me up anywhere. I can always just go back to New Jersey." That was a lie, he couldn't go home, he wouldn't go home. There was nothing to go home to. "You three have this little family thing going on and... I really don't think you need me around." Even if it was for a day or two he'd feel like some kind of intruder in this world he was never meant to know.

"He's no more of a liability to you than I am," Sylar said, grinning over at Elle. It was a rare person that could actually get away with pushing him around and only get the response of a grin. Even then, he wasn't really about to let himself get shoved out onto the couch. "And besides, a Petrelli already does know. Peter caught me while I was out picking up all of that," He said, nodding towards the nursery. "Gifted liar or not, explaining why I'm purchasing a bunch of baby supplies is a bit beyond my reach," He said before turning back to Luke.

"And you can go back to New Jersey just as easily as I could go back to my mother," Sylar said, rolling his eyes. Well, maybe Luke had it a little easier in the fact that his mother was still alive. "She wants you around just as much as mine did after she found out what I was, and I'm not about to let you wander the streets or head down to one of the shelters. Around here, you're as likely to get beat up in them as you are to get a decent night's rest. And you're black and blue enough already for three men."

Standing and crossing the apartment to his own room, he returned a minute later with a change of clothes, tossing them over at Luke, "They're going to be more than a bit big, but they're clean. The bathroom is back there," He said, pointing down the small hallway just off the nursery. "Go get yourself cleaned up."

It really didn't matter what they needed right now. Family thing or not, Luke needed a place to stay, and he'd already abandoned him twice. If this was what that ended in both times, he wasn't about to kick him out again and have the kid get himself killed.

A strange look flashed on Elle face when she stepped back in the room after Gabriel had mentioned how a Petrelli already knew. Granted it was just Peter, but still! She was annoyed/hurt he willingly told when she had not even decided on what she was doing completely yet or even that he knew what she was going. Her finger stretched out and she bit the inside of her cheek trying not to let her temper get the best of her. He knew what he was doing, she supposed, doesn‘t mean she had to like it. It was just another thing among many topics that needed to be discussed between them and Elle needed to excuse herself before she caused a scene.

When Gabriel came out with the clothes for Luke Elle spoke to Luke to assure him, “Luke, stay, really, you won’t be bother and it’s not as it seems anyways.” she shot a look over annoyance at Gabriel. “I have lost my appetite and since we have been on the road all morning, Noah and I are going to go nap for awhile.”

Elle went back into the kitchen, collected her son, and crossed the living room not saying a word. She went to the nursery, he truly did a good job on it, but the bags were still scattered and she didn’t want to put Noah in there yet. She cuddled Noah closer to her and turned to walk back and then into Gabriel’s room. They could lay in there for a bit. As she walked in his room, she held Noah closer to her for she could cover his ears for she didn't want to startle him as she slammed the door shut hard behind her.

As much as Luke would've loved to continue the argument he knew enough to realize when he'd lost the battle. Judging by Sylar's words and the fact that, though noticeably upset, Elle was agreeing with him meant that Luke had lost. "All right, all right. I give. I'll stay." At least for a little while. He couldn't hang around here forever, afterall. Eventually he'd have to make plans of his own and get moving.

Catching the clothes he was thrown he nodded and stood up. Pausing for a moment he looked between Sylar and Elle as she walked back towards his room and slammed the door. Now was probably a good a time as any to hide out in the bathroom for a moment. Turning back to look at Sylar he tried his best to appear neutral though he could hear the childish teasing somewhere in the back of his head. Sylar was in trouble. He'd love to let out a sarcastic 'Ooooo' but he was certain the older man would kill him for it. With that damn power of his there was no way Luke could do it and run either.

Offering Sylar a shrug he quickly moved past him and towards the bathroom to change and clean himself up. He still didn't think he looked that bad but everyone around him seemed to have the same reaction to his state that Sylar and Elle had had. Okay, so maybe he was in a slightly pathetic state. There were cuts on his faces and he had a bruise on his cheek and a split lip. There were other scars too, but they were no big deal. Changing into Sylar Clothing, he frowned they really were way too big for him. "Great..." he murmured to himself. "Now you really look pathetic." Pushing his hair back from his face he picked up his clothes and peeked out of the bathroom door, wondering if Sylar had gone to work things out with Elle and he could curl up on the couch for a little while.

Sylar hadn't budged from the couch, staring at the door to his room with an expression on his face that was wavering between hurt, confused, angry, and frustrated (even if the latter two were quite similar). Happy family, they were not. Not yet, at least. There were a lot of issues that he and Elle still had to get past, and he had to figure out how to go about this without trampling on Elle's nerves or lighting her fuse which was even shorter than his own. Right now, he figured that it was a smarter idea to allow her to sleep it off than bumble through and end up making it that much worse.

Glancing over at Luke as he came back out into the living room, Sylar smiled slightly, an amusement dancing in his eyes at the sight, "Well. At least they're clean?" He said before pushing himself up off of the couch. Better to distract himself than dwell on Elle's reaction.

"Hungry?"

"I really need to get some clean clothes of my own." He chuckled, carrying his other clothes to the backpack he'd carried with him from Washington back to New York. In the backpack was everything he currently owned. Including the glasses he now needed thanks to one of the cells he'd been locked in causing his powers to backfire upon him. It'd ruined his previously perfect vision. Pulling those out of his bag he sighed as he polished the lenses and looked up at Sylar. "One of the cells kinda messed up my eyes." he murmured by way of explination before putting them away again. He really didn't want to wear them.

As a teenage boy he was always hungry. Though he was still a little wary of the older man he stood up and drew closer at the possibility of food. "Yeah... I guess you could say I kind of am." Or more than kind of. He just really wasn't about to admit it in front of Sylar.

Hanging back for just a moment he walked towards Sylar, watching him in curious silence for a moment. There was something he wanted to know but didn't know how to go about asking or if by asking he'd end up pinned to another wall. "So... did you find him?" he asked softly

"Yeah, well, nobody is anything more than a blurry mass to me. Haven't been much more than for the last few years," Sylar said, quietly extracting a pair from his top pocket and waving them for Luke to see before putting them back. He still didn't wear them much. They made him look far too much like the nerd that he used to be, the weak and frail and fragile individual who couldn't take care of himself much less anyone else. But still, having them there, if it was necessary, was better than coping without them like he had practically since he'd went from Gabriel to Sylar.

Extracting a few items from the fridge, Sylar popped the packages on the deli slices, opening the bread before pushing the remainder of the potato salad in the deli container, finishing a fork out of the drawer as well, over to Luke as he started fixing a few sandwiches, Sylar went quiet at the question, his attention having focused almost completely on the task at hand.

Did he find him? He had. He had found him, and he still regretted it even after the memory had been pushed as far back to the recesses of his mind as possible. It still hurt. He'd gotten his answers. He's gotten what he'd always wanted, but now, he wished he'd never gone looking.

"You were right," Sylar said after the extended silence. "I would have been better off if I'd just left it alone."

There was something about the idea of Sylar in glasses that brought a smile to Luke's face. He'd never seen the older man in glasses, hadn't even known he'd wore them. In front of Luke he'd always gone without them. "Yeah? See... I didn't know that. So... I could be anyone in the world telling you that I'm Luke Campbell and you wouldn't really know because I'm just a blurry mass to you anyway." He laughed, constantly forgetting that Sylar had this odd way of knowing when some one lying.

Following Sylar into the kitchen, Luke stood at the other end of the counter, watching the older man. The silence had a way of worrying him and, for a moment, he wondered if he should get his power ready. He didn't want the older man taking out whatever anger he still held on him again. He'd had quite enough of it in that abandoned diner out in the middle of nowhere. Frowning a little when Sylar finally spoke up he nodded. "I'm sorry." he said softly. "I should've been a little more direct about it."

Though he didn't know if Sylar would've believed him or not. The older man had a way of hearing only whatever he wanted to hear. The two of them were very similiar in that way. Luke tended to tune things out too. "Parents usually are a let down... they're never what we expect them to be." He paused and turned back towards the room Elle had disappeared into. "You know... I wouldn't say you would've been better off. At least now you know what you don't want to be."

"It's really only the people that knew me before I turned into a psychotic killer that know that I need them," Sylar said as he finished off one of the sandwiches and pushed it over to Luke. "And considering how much of a recluse I was, and how many people that I knew them are now dead, that's... Elle. And Bennet," He said, finishing off the other sandwich and putting away all of the fixings, closing the fridge door before picking up his plate and crossing over to the small table.

"I wouldn't have listened," Sylar said in response to Luke's statement that he should have been more direct. Even if he had been able to tell that Luke wasn't lying, he wouldn't have listened. He had had his goal blinders on, and his father had been the goal at the very end of it. "I was too focus. If I hadn't been, I would have realized what you were doing with all of that talk about parents being nothing but trouble and not needing them sooner than several months after the fact," He said, biting into his own sandwich and chewing slowly as he turned over Luke's last statement in his head.

It was true. He was more sure that he didn't want to be his father now that he'd seen him than he had been before. It had been what had pushed him onto this pathway, and it was one of the things that was keeping him firmly on it and praying that when Noah was 4 or 5, he wasn't going to drag Elle out to the middle of the desert and kill her just because he didn't care anymore.

"He tried to kill me," Sylar said. "Because he was dying, and I had the ability to heal. Tried to rip it out of my head because it was more important to him." Why was in that the ones that didn't leave you behind always tried to hurt you?

Looking over at Luke, Sylar frowned for a long moment before saying quietly, "I shouldn't have left you behind. Even if you were safer not being there around him, I should have at least found somewhere a little less... middle of nowhere to drop you."

Bennet... he knew a Bennet or, at least, he'd heard that name floating around. There'd been some man with horn-rimed glasses back at Building 26 who they called Bennet but Luke hadn't had too much interaction with him. Picking up the sandwich he murmured a soft thank you. So, Sylar had been some kind of hermit before they'd met. That seemed to run in the family. Samson was a bit of hermit too. He liked being on his own and really only dealt with people while in his shop.

"I can understand that." His father ran out on him when he was young too. If he'd been able to find the older man Luke may have tried to track him down too. He'd heard that powers were genetically influenced. Maybe his father had an ability too. He couldn't help but wonder what the older man would be able to do. Biting into his sandwich, Luke smiled a bit as he chewed. "I mean, my dad left me. Not in the same way but he left. If someone told me they knew where he was I'd try and track him down too. See if he had an ability."

Maybe Sylar would be a better father than either of their's had been. Luke hoped so. He really liked Noah, the kid was just too cute. Looking up at the older man he frowned. He hadn't really known that Samson had an ability. He'd spent time with the older man but there wasn't much else to it. He'd never seen him use any of his abilities. Looking back down at his food he sighed. "I'm sorry." he murmured once more. "I didn't know he had an ability. He ran off around the time my ability first manifested." Maybe that was for the better. Samson could've killed him.

He really had no words to offer Sylar as a way to comfort the older man. Luke had known his parents weren't the best of people from the start but Sylar hadn't known. He had no way of knowing.

"It's... all right." This was still weird for him. "You couldn't take me with you and I'm sure he lived in the middle of nowhere anyway. You couldn't back track to kick me out in a more populated area. I made it out alive and it was my own fault that those government guys picked me up." He shrugged, trying to act like it was no big deal. He was alive and in one piece. "Anyway I would've been upset no matter where you decided to kick me out at." He had this thing about being left behind.

"For the better. He probably would have ripped your head open and taken it," Sylar said. It wasn't like he had much room to talk because that had been his main preoccupation for a year. But the fact of the matter was that he didn't like the idea of Luke ending up with his head ripped open by anyone. Especially himself, but he didn't have any intention of doing that.

"And even if I couldn't have done anything, I shouldn't have made myself into a raging hypocrite no matter how angry I was," Sylar said quietly. He'd been so injured by people abandoning him, twisted by it, and all he had done was continue the cycle. "All everyone in my life ever did was leave. And I'm not better than any of them," He said, feeling trapped by sitting down, pushing himself away from the table and crossing back over to the fridge for an excuse to move.

"Want something to drink?"

"Okay... well now I don't feel so bad." He had been upset about the elderly man's departure from his life but now he wasn't so sure. He could handle being left behind and abandoned if it meant he got to live and keep his brain right where it belonged. He knew that Sylar had done that for a year but, as Luke had always told himself, if Sylar had wanted to kill him and take his powers he all ready would've. There was no point in keeping him alive for this long.

"You came back though... even if it wasn't for me. That one time you left me at the first diner. You came back. Even if you only left me again it was still more than anyone has ever done for me." Sure he'd been devestated when Sylar left him again, but he wasn't going to admit that. "Most people... and it's usually the men in my life who I look up to... just leave. No one ever even bothers to look back. So, in a way, you are better." He wasn't trying to hurt Luke either that had to count for something.

Things were starting to get a little awkward. Neither of them were used to this... whatever it was and he could tell. When Sylar asked if he wanted something to drink Luke felt a wave of relief wash over him. That was a little more normal. "Sure!"

"Truth?" Sylar said, pausing for a long moment as he pulled two sodas out of the back of the fridge and crossed back over to the table, setting one of them down in front of Luke. "I did come back for you. The laptop was just a convenient excuse so that you wouldn't get a big head," Sylar said as he sat back down. "It was easier to pretend that I didn't care than deal with the consequences of actually allowing you to know that I did," He said, picking up the bottle and turning it over in his hand before taking the lid off of it with a sigh.

"If I hadn't cared, I wouldn't have gotten so upset when I decided that you'd just been using me. Like everyone else I'd known," He said, taking a long drink before setting it back down on the table. It was a greater admission than he had made in a long time. Perhaps since he'd been locked in that cell with Elle. And it was certainly not something that he was used to doing by any means.

"You... cared?" And for a moment it was clear that the information simply baffled the teenager. Luke had spent most of his life thinking, as many teenagers do, that no one cared. His ideas were simply supported by the fact that everyone around him either hurt him or left. He'd known from a young age that his mother didn't really want him around. It was strange to have someone say they cared and admit that they'd come back for him. Opening his soda he took a quick drink, using the time to think of the right response to what had just been said. It was new and unexpected but... not unwelcomed.

"At first I think I was." he admitted softly. "I had information you wanted and you had a way out. It seemed so... easy. I killed that agent because I'd never met anyone with an ability before but afterwards... I guess I don't know what I was thinking and I'm sorry about that. Afterwards though, I thought you were just like me in a way and I kept the address because I didn't want you to leave me. You didn't even seem to like me, I knew I annoyed you, and yet you were the first and only connection I'd made since... well this." He frowned as he lifted his hand and watched it glow red for a moment. "And you were willing to teach me things. Even if a lot of that information came with a long winded lecture about self control that I only half listened to." It had almost been like having a brother. Someone who he could rely upon and look up to, even if he wouldn't admit that. He'd enjoyed their time on the road together even if he occasionally ended up telekinetically pressed against the window while Sylar reminded him that he was killer.

"Okay and I guess I don't need to say it but maybe I was just a little attatched to you. But just a little. In a silly way I imagined that maybe it was what having an older brother was like. I don't have one so I have nothing to compare it with and I assume you don't have one so you can't really correct me on it. But, yeah, I cared. I was disappointed when you left the first time and just... an idiot when you left the second time because I knew you weren't coming back and I still waited." His frown deepened just a little as he drew into himself.

"Anyway..." he said as he tried to change the subject to one that wouldn't be too difficult for either of them. "I know I can't really but maybe I should try and go back to New Jersey. I don't know what else I'm going to do with myself. I didn't even finish high school." Though, in the end, that was really his own fault.

"The GED test isn't hard," Sylar said, taking another sip of his drink as he tried to incorporate all of that information into the things that he'd already known. "Most people could probably pass it after middle school," He said before offering Luke a slightly amused smile. "And I'd say you're right. I probably was like having a brother considering you annoyed me half to death, but I still willing put up with you," He said, chuckling quietly to himself. He was even abusive like older brothers were supposed to be, though, perhaps, that had been a bit worse than typical.

"You can stay as long as you need to," Sylar said after allowing a long stretch of silence to fall between them. The apartment wasn't exactly set up to house three adults and a baby, but they would make do. Sylar could rearrange some of the furniture, maybe move the actual crib into the room with him and Elle. Unless Luke didn't mind sharing the room with the toddler, and he could manage to fit a twin bed in there as well. They would manage. "And don't say anything about not wanting to be a bother because it isn't."

Test. Luke hated that word, seriously hated it. Tests were the bane of his existance. "You mean I'm going to have to spend time studying?" he asked, voice containing just the smallest hint of a whine. "I wonder if it's too late to get myself thrown back in jail..." He huffed before breaking into a smile and taking another drink of his soda. "Yeah, for a confessed serial killer you really did have a lot of patience.... even after I gave you the address." He teased softly. He never really meant to annoy Sylar. It was just something that kind of happened though... he did have to admit that he had fun poking at Sylar to see just what he could get away with.

"I hate it when you leave no room for argument, you know?" he sighed as he finished up his sandwich. He wouldn't argue or say anything about being a bother though it probably would be a little awkward for everyone. He wouldn't mind sharing a room with a toddler if it came to that but Luke was certain it wouldn't be a permanent thing.
