Jaime regarded him skeptically at his boast, and she wondered if that was true. She guessed it could be. Why not? She could do just about anything with her elements -- build them up, break them down, make them more or less solid ... so why couldn't he break down large amounts of earth?
She shivered a little before she looked away, crossing her arms over her chest. "What if ... people come here," she began. "People who claim to be here to learn magic or even ... just regular stuff, but they're really here to ... you know. Stop this from happening? And don't say that it isn't possible. There are a lot of people out there who were happy with magic being kept down and hidden. What if they ... you know? We're all in one area, so why shouldn't they come in and start picking us off and whatever else?"
Jaime didn't like the idea of it, but it wasn't like there was any sort of screening process for the new students. Or for people in general. People traveled to Highlyn all the time, and what was to stop someone from invading the Academy?
