Caroline didn’t know what was happening here, but it seemed widespread. Lots of people were suffering from whatever it was. It was like this place was playing on all of their fears and insecurities and using them against them. In fact, that was exactly what it seemed like. She’d been thinking about that ever since Klaus had made her see that the witches were not real. She still saw them, sometimes…but they didn’t seem to have the same effect on her that they had before. She could make them go away easier, but she was still plagued by all of this. And she didn’t know how to make it all stop, permanently. People were going crazy. Maybe that was the intention of whomever or whatever was behind this.

Caroline thought she was doing better than most, because she was seeing a little more clearly. That didn’t mean it would last though, she had many other fears that could be exploited and used against her. Everyone was afraid of something. Everyone had something that made them vulnerable, so whatever this was could hurt everyone here. Was this why she was brought there? Why they all were? She had to get it all off her mind, and that was why she’d left the apartments and taken a walk. Caroline was well aware that it was dangerous out there, but she also knew she could handle herself. She wasn’t too worried about running into trouble. She was concerned about what this whole fear thing would make her experience next, but she couldn’t just sit around waiting for something like that to happen.

She didn’t know what brought her to the alley, but something had. And she saw him there, unmoving. It was like he was dead. That was ridiculous. Klaus could not be killed. And if Klaus truly was dead, well…Caroline didn’t have long to live, nor the Salvatores….or a lot of people. Vampires all over the world would just start dropping dead. But this wasn’t happening, that wasn’t real. Klaus could not be killed, period. It was impossible. And Caroline should know, because her friends had been trying to kill him for a long time now. She didn’t know what this was…probably more of the infection of fear that seemed to leave no one immune.

She moved to him quickly, kneeling beside him. There was no telling how long he’d been here. “Klaus?” She asked, hoping to get his attention. He didn’t even look like he was dead, so why wasn’t he moving? Why wasn’t he fighting? What the hell had happened and who had done this to him? Was this even real? Was he real? She didn’t know. It was hard to know what was real when she’d hallucinated so much. But it felt very real right now. It felt like Klaus was really lying here, unmoving and she didn’t know what to do. But she knew he wasn’t dead, she could tell. He couldn’t even be that hurt. He’d been staked but it wasn’t a white oak stake or anything like that. “Klaus! Snap out of it!” Maybe her words were a little harsh, but that wouldn’t be anything new to him.

Caroline couldn't even imagine what Klaus would do once he found out who or what was responsible for all this. She was willing to bet it wouldn't be pretty, though. Klaus was not a man who became helpless easily, and this thing that none of them seemed to be able to escape from had all but crippled him out here. Caroline certainly didn't plan on bragging about how she'd found him. Klaus deserved his dignity. And besides, he had saved her on the rooftop, and he'd saved her when she'd been so close to turning her humanity off. The way that Caroline saw it, this didn't even make it even.

She knew he was going to be fine, so she could have just walked away and left him there. Something made her stay though. She didn't know why, but she couldn't just walk away and leave him alone after something like this. He hadn't left her, though the reasons for that were fairly obvious. She didn't expect him to thank her. Klaus didn't usually do things like that, unless it was in a sarcastic manner, but she could tell that he was being sincere. She knew he was right too, someone else might have just left him like that. Someone else might have thought it was exactly what he deserved. But not Caroline. She couldn't have just left him there like that, it wasn't right.

He seemed a lot better, as he moved closer to her. She could tell he had healed, and he was more or less back to the same old Klaus. She could have left then too, but again she stayed. And the next thing she knew, he was kissing her. She wasn't so surprised, he hadn't exactly been in the position to kiss her back a few moments ago. She knew it was wrong, but she couldn't help herself, as she kissed him back, just a bit. "Sure." She nodded. "I'm glad you're okay." She easily could have just chalked this up to him saving her before, but she knew there was more to it, even if she couldn't readily admit it. "Walk me back to the apartments?"
