Eliot went out for cigarettes. He justified it to himself in a number of creative ways. For one, cigarettes didn't get him high. He needed them to think. Even if they were bad for him, any damage he did or addiction he took back up during the week would be undone the start of the next. Literally, he could quit at any time.
(And maybe if Jesus hated cigarettes he'd get pissed off enough to wake up and smack the pack out of his hand. It was only a week. It was probably only a week.)
While he was out, however, he decided on a gift for the hotel's new queen. That seemed like the polite monarch thing to do. Eliot picked up an early copy of The Great Gatsby at a bookstore, a long string of glass pearls, a few jell-o molds and, in the kitchen before they were to meet, Eliot made the queen jello for what he hoped would be her amusement.
The gifts were wrapped in slender boxes with brown paper and ribbon, the jello was hidden behind a fine lidded serving dish. Eliot wore a white, fitted suit with his hair parted in the period style because why not. Magic, naturally, removed any trace of tobacco scent from him. Eliot knocked gently on her door before announcing himself. "Majesty? It's King Eliot..."
With anyone else he would have been less formal. He wanted to see how the queen was doing before approaching that topic with her.
