Hello everyone. This is Tom Pippin, my 8th character (yes, I know. But I can't help it. This game is great and so I keep getting muses.) Character sheet here.
Anyway, onward ho:
Tom is Ravenclaw, former House beater, class of '92. His family owns the J Pippin's Potions chain. There are stores in Diagon and Hogsmeade, and also Helga's.
He was a bit of a playboy during Hogwarts, and one Easter holiday before graduation he had a fling with a Muggle and knocked her up. Oops. He got his ears boxed by his family and after a bit of umming and ahhing they married, eventually. Alfie was born, Tom settled down, decided to become a Healer instead of working for the family business, and things were great until the War. His wife, Angela, had been fine with magic until he told her what was happening, and then she had an understandable freak-out. (He supposed all the time he spent telling her stories about gruesome magical injuries he'd seen didn't help.) She wanted no more to do with him and his world and so, divorce.
It went through the Muggle courts because Tom didn't think pointing Ministry officials toward his Muggle wife and Halfblood son in the middle of war was a great idea. (They might think chucking her in Azkaban or worse would do him a favour.) It was bitter and cost his family a lot of money. She got custody and he gets to see Alfie every second weekend and alternate Monday evenings.
So Alfie will be around sometimes! He's eight and deeply unimpressed by magic. He's obsessed with Pokemon and you may see him around town being grumpy because his Game Boy won't work and there's no TV.
Also, Tom's kind of a laissez-faire father. He was fine when married, but since he's lost custody he's used it as an excuse to be more hands-off. Alfie doesn't like him, doesn't like magic, is bored stiff in Helga's, etc. Sure, it's emotionally difficult but he could do better. Anyway, he dates often, mostly short-term relationships, and goes out a lot.
His older sister Johanna is managing director of J. Pippin's Potions. The family business went through a rough patch with Tom's divorce and stagnant sales. However, last year, a 70% stake was sold to the Higgs family, and the new capital let them renovate and expand into Europe. The Diagon and Hogsmeade stores are big and sell more than just potions, whereas Helga's is mostly a counter and waiting area, with a couple of displays and information posters on the walls.
Tom works as a Healer at St Mungo's. He also plays guitar in a three-person band. They play sometimes at the Badger/Grotto? (Let me know if this is acceptable!). The band plays covers of Muggle music and some original songs. (She got the child, he got her record collection.)
