characters: Steve and Kensi setting: saturday evening, the ilikai bar and grill. summary: a date? it might be a date. it's probably a date. ratings/warnings: low, awkward cuteness. status: in progress.
Steve was pretty nervous in a way. Danny was right, he wasn't very smooth. He didn't get romance the way his partner did. He had done some strange things when he had been with Cath and at the time he hadn't realized it. But all of that had lead to this, in a way. He could learn from his mistakes. If only that meant he could be any wiser at all. That would be stellar. Instead he had fussed over what to wear, how to look. Was he supposed to wear nicer clothes that weren't quite fancy enough for a funeral, or just his normal threads? Should he do something special with his hair? Did he need to get her a gift or something? Yeah, he was definitely going to fall flat on his face tonight one way or another.
But he made it to the apartment building on time and got them a table for two. He had opted to wear a nice polo and khakis instead of jeans. They didn't even have any holes in them. He hadn't done anything special with his hair, but he was clean shaven and he smelled like his Old Spice deoderant. He normally didn't waste time with that sort of stuff but this was certainly not just a meeting with the governor or something, he really liked Kensi. Despite the awkward part where she hadn't known who he was, he wanted to move forward with that. He might just have to keep Danny out of the loop until things were going nice and smoothly. He didn't want to constantly deal with the petite man's teasing.
He checked his watch, it was exactly 7:30, she was due to arrive any second. He just hoped she wasn't dressed like she was going to the opera, because then he'd feel like a complete ass.
