It was late at night and a familiar sight could be seen in the corridors of Hogwarts. Severus was striding along the dark corridors, his black robes swirling and billowing dramatically. His thoughts however were miles away from the school much to his disgust. Bad enough that he'd had to put up with the Potter boy for the last six years but to now be thinking about him when the boy wasn't going to even be at the school this year was irritating in the extreme.
Unfortunately Albus insisted on worrying aloud about the brat, no matter how many times he growled at the portrait. He had enough on his plate without having to endure Albus' waffling. He knew the kind of danger Potter was in and there was little he could do about it. He just had to trust that the boy wouldn't be a complete idiot... which was not a thought that filled him with much confidence. Potter had made a career at school of being an idiot.
He scowled and pushed that thought away. There was nothing he could do right now. He had a school to prepare, a task which was a touch more difficult than it ought to be. The staff weren't openly rebelling but he could almost feel the resentment and anger every time he entered the room. But he'd been right. Not a one of them had left... except Charity but that was... unfortunate. He would have them there to protect the students when he could not. Now he just had to hope that Potter's cronies... that wretched Defence Association of his... would be equally sensible.
He turned a corner and stepped into the Astronomy classroom. He walked over to one of the windows and stared out at the battlements where only a few months ago he'd killed the only man who knew what was really going on. He clasped his hands behind his back, his face stony and unreadable and simply stared out into the night.
