Week Seven: Monday, May 13th, 2007
Who: Starbuck and Kat
When: Monday night, 9ish
Where: Kat's 'secret room' upstairs
What: Starbuck has exciting news to share!
Starbuck was honestly on cloud nine. He couldn't remember being this happy in a very long time. He had been carrying around some heavy burdens in recent years, and now one rather large burden had been lifted. He and his mother were no longer poor. He didn't have to worry about making enough money at his part time job to help pay the bill back home. He could spare a bit of cash every now and then when he wanted to buy something he didn't really need. And he could definitely treat Kat to a bit of luxury in an attempt to 'woo' her a bit.
First things first... he thought back to the other night and how he'd joked about feeding her grapes and fanning her. The moment classes were done, Starbuck had run into town on a shopping spree. He had a lot of things he needed to get, and not a lot of time to do it. Yes, he was slacking off on studying a bit tonight, and he'd begged Kyle to let him have the evening off (which Kyle was more than ok with once Starbuck explained everything)... but it was all for a damn good reason! The island was small, and it wasn't easy to come by all the things he needed. There weren't any huge fans made of feathers, but he'd found a big Chinese looking one. Grapes were easy though, and he bought bundles of both green and purple, making sure neither had seeds. He bought some other items of indulgence too, mostly of the edible variety. Then came the real challenge... decor. Starbuck wasn't the kind of guy who knew anything about fashion or furnishings.
Kat's 'secret room' didn't have a lot to it. There was pretty much just the loveseat and a great view... which was really high up, and did make Starbuck a little nervous when he got too close to the window. He didn't know where his fear of heights had come from, but it was firmly in place. He didn't like fire either, but candlelight was all romantic and shit, so he bought a bunch of those. He also charged a collection of velvety soft, plush, massive blankets to his account and got a lot of matching pillows. Then there was the matter of getting everything back to school. The cab driver eyed Starbuck suspiciously, with Starbuck only grinning and saying, "Love makes you retarded, doesn't it?" The man nodded and helped Starbuck load everything into the vehicle. He was even nice enough to help Starbuck carry the bags into the school's main entrance. The timing was perfect, because most people were at dinner by then. Less questions, which was a good thing. Also gave him time to haul everything upstairs... a little at a time... because he didn't want to draw attention to himself or his destination.
It took a while, but eventually he'd hauled everything upstairs and was able to set to work with arranging it. That was the really stressful part, because he really didn't have a clue what he was doing. Hopefully it all looked alright? He'd probably never know, because it was difficult to gage Kat's feelings sometimes. Though, he'd come to find a mild reaction usually meant she approved, she just wasn't willing to say it.
When everything was set up (minus lighting the candles), he bolted off to his dorm again to shower and dress. No fancy clothes for him. Starbuck kept it as simple as always with jeans and a plain white t-shirt. No shoes, no hoodie, no belt... it was about as basic as you could possibly get without being naked. Though, he was hoping for that later and pocketed some protection just in case.
All things settled, Starbuck returned to the room upstairs, making sure once again that no one saw where he was going... hopefully. He didn't think anyone had seen him go into or out of Kat's room the other night either. At least this wasn't breaking any rules, right? He didn't think there was anything wrong with meeting up in a room that few people were aware existed. Kat knew it was there, and Kat knew he was there. Now all he had to do was wait... after nervously lighting all those damn candles.
