Log: Karen & Open
Who: Karen Page & Malcolm Bright
What: Adjusting
When: Today
Where: Snells Beach
Warnings: None yet
Only a couple days had passed since Karen had somehow traveled without warning or reason to a random town in New Zealand. There had been an explanation of sorts as to the how and why — magic, apparently — but she was the skeptic. Magic or the unexplainable may have been real, she'd seen some of that with her own eyes, but this? It didn't seem real. Her answers to the interview after arrival were clipped and vague. Whether they meant well or not, Karen had no idea who any of these people were, and who she was, was none of their business. She gave a first name and that she'd come from New York City but nothing more that identified her. Karen from New York City — there were likely a few hundred or more of those.
What she soon discovered was that while she wasn't the first to arrive, she wasn't the last either. Only a couple days later and there was an influx of arrivals. Names she recognized from home in the media but no one she knew personally. Still, if there were those showing up that she recognized then maybe there was hope she would see a more familiar face. Matt, Foggy, Madani. Frank. The last almost made her laugh out loud at the thought. Frank Castle forcibly taken away to a foreign place with no real explanation why and with no way to get back? That was sure to go over real well.
Staying inside with a roommate she didn't know even the slightest made her feel as if the walls were closing in, so Karen set off for the afternoon and walked through town a bit. She stopped in a few shops but mostly kept her eyes wandering and surveying her surroundings and the people she passed. The handgun that she'd had on her at the time she'd been pulled from New York was safely tucked away in her purse, and its presence did at least manage to provide her a small sense of security.
A walk on the beach hadn't been her plan, but Karen took the walkway out to the sand and let the wind whip around her a bit as she pulled the light jacket a little tighter around herself. It was a cool day, growing colder instead of warmer in this half of the world, but not enough to drive her back. She mostly ignored the sprinkle of people that occupied the beach and after a short walk, she settled down on the sand back up on a small hill next to the grass. It was peaceful here, looking out over the water, and for a small moment she could forget that she was on the other side of the world and away from everything and everyone she knew.
