An-- Persephone watched him, noted his reaction at the name of Ariadne, and saw the expression in his eyes. She nodded. "Ariadne is the name of a daughter of King Minos of Crete. The story is that the princess helped Theseus the Athenian in his quest to defeat the Minotaur that plagued Crete, by giving him a ball of string so that he might find his way back." She took a sip of her coffee, trying to recall the finer details, which came with surprising ease. "He took her with him to an island, called Naxos, and abandoned her as she slept. Dionysus saved the beautiful girl, and made her his wife. She was his great love, and they had a number of children -- but she was mortal, remember -- so as all mortals, she eventually passed on into the afterlife. Dionysus, at her death, took a crown she had been given, by Aphrodite on the occasion of their wedding, and spread it amongst the stars."
