Daphne felt a sick pleasure at Astoria not responding. It was better that way, she knew, but it wasn't often that Astoria was left speechless. It probably wasn't the same thing, considering, but it was better than nothing. Daphne would take her win with her sister not replying and run with it. There was no other way to be. She certainly wasn't going to entertain the idea that Astoria had a reason not to reply other than she knew Daphne was right in the first place. Daphne was nearly always right in Daphne's own mind.
She smirked. "You have high expectations, don't you Astoria?" she asked, her voice more patronizing than teasing now. In this world, it was luck that made someone married and not miserable. Arranged marriages still were around in the magical society even if their own parents scoffed at the notion it seemed. Not to mention there were the people who married purely to further a bloodline or mix it with someone worth it in society rather than love. Love, to Daphne, was a foreign concept and so was happiness when it was connected to marriage. It was all about blood and society. Personal enjoyment was something that was best done behind closed doors without a marriage contact attached to it. She nodded. "I believe we should pitch that to our parents next time we see them together. And it's best if Cleon is there, too, just for effect," she said with a smugness in her voice.
