Daphne's eyes widened at Astoria's question. Merlin, what if that did happen? It'd be a nightmare. Unconsciously, she took another step away from the fire dancers and looked at her sister. "That'd be terrible!" she said with no levity in her tone. She shook her head, trying to block out the disturbing image that came to mind. Daphne didn't care about others, but she didn't seek out someone being hurt. Unless they deserved it. In the end, even Daphne was disgusted by the thought, especially as she stood outside. She brought her hands up to hug herself, looking a little frightened.
She nodded at Astoria. "I'm sure that's for the best," she said with a tight smile. She actually didn't want to think of her sister like that anyway. Sure, she'd love to see Astoria settle down with someone. Everyone would. But then again, everyone would love to see Daphne settle down with someone. It was just the way the world worked. They wanted people in pairs. Maybe they thought there was some symmetry to it that Daphne just couldn't understand. "And," she added purposely, "I don't ask what other things that might be." She laughed a little. "They think we all know better than to bring up boys to our parents and Cleon," she agreed with amusement. As far as anyone was concerned, Daphne hadn't dated in Hogwarts which was only half true. She'd never dated anyway, but she wasn't as innocent as they'd all like to think either. In fact, she wasn't innocent at all.
