Malachi was happy to get out. He liked Katie a lot. She was definitley a good person and good friend to Lavender, but Cormac... Cormac was a different story. His gift for Lavender was inappropriate and he'd actually punched him. He felt the punch would lead to Cormac getting over whatever animosity he felt, and it seemed to have alleviated some. But he still couldn't believe the man had actually hit him. Cormac was an asshole, and if he was a different guy, he suggest Lavender get a new friend. But he wasn't that type of guy. Lavender could be friends with whomever she wanted, and despite his hostility toward Malachi, Cormac treated Lavender well. He could see the affection the man had for his girlfriend clearly. He wouldn't actually do anything to hurt Lavender.
He didn't have much of a plan for the night. He'd shared birthday celebrations with Ben and others over the years, but they had never been anything official. And he felt he had to do something good for Lavender, which just added pressure that he hated. So he decided to take her to the beach. He had a blanket with him in case they decided to sit under the stars, but other than that, he had no plan. He was a bad boyfriend and knew it, but at least he was trying. She loved nature, being outside, and the beach, so at least he was thinking of her with his plans. And he'd been preoccupied with Ben's dilemma, too. He knew he should be more concerned with Lavender, as his girlfriend, but Ben had been his best friend for years and he just hated the thought they were going to hurt him so badly be killing Gwen. He wanted to do something to comfort Ben, to help him, but apparently there was nothing he could do. He hadn't told Lavender his friend had came to see him at work a few days before, but the topic kept coming into his mind. He worried for Ben's sanity, really. Would this be some kind of breaking point for him? He already had to deal with a homophobic, asshole father.
Gripping her hand as they walked off the boardwalk until the sand, he just enjoyed being close to her. He had no idea what to say at the moment. He didn't want to talk about Cormac, and if he spoke of Katie, it'd lead to Cormac. "Nice night," he commented softly.
