[The louder Jude gets, the quieter Leila becomes. She's crying again, but it's not the angry sobs from her earlier argument with her parents.]
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Jude. I don't—I don't know why they're being like this. It's not the end of the world, I can still bring it up. And I've already been accepted to IUP. I don't...."
[She flinches again at his outburst, guilt weighing heavily on her. She knows how long they've been planning for this. But confusion crosses her face at his suggestion.]
"How??? Everything I saved up went toward the hotel. They paid for my flights. Without that, I can't afford the airfare. Not to Pennsylvania, and definitely not to the island. And..."
[As mad as she is at her parents, and as incredibly unfair as this seems, it's clear the idea of overtly disobeying them is still foreign to her.]
