SOPHOMORE BONDING: November

SOPHOMORE MONTHLY BONDING

On this chilly November afternoon, the sophomores meet in the kitchens for a bonding activity with Prospero, assisted by his companion elf, Ambrosia.

Students are broken up into pairs or groups of three, and they're given a basket of secret ingredients that they must make a dessert out of. They have exactly 90 minutes, after which their creations will be judged by Quinn Cunningham, Theresa Noble, Magdalen Gillis, Robin Youngblood, [Senior/Junior Volunteer E]. The volunteer judges won't know who made what dessert. (OOC: Please allow players who do not play a sophomore to have first dibs on volunteer slots. If there are still open spots by 10 PM Mountain Time, then anyone may volunteer.)

Prospero is his usual gentle, supportive self. Meanwhile, Ambrosia keeps giggling affectionately at the proceedings, and seems very excited to watch the volunteers try the (likely questionable) results of this game. There are other house-elves in attendance, ready to assist the sophomore contestants.

Everyone's basket of secret ingredients contains:
  • Bananas
  • Candied ginger
  • Dark chocolate (vegan)
  • Maple syrup
  • Curry powder

Each dessert creation must use every ingredient in the basket. House-elves will retrieve any other requested ingredients (e.g. flour, eggs, sugar, avocados), but Prospero will be on the lookout for anyone who is rude or makes unreasonable demands. Contestants are allowed the use of magic, assuming they are responsible with it, and are given access to all the equipment in the kitchen. House-elves will help students with equipment they don't understand, or with anything they feel unsafe doing (i.e. knife use).

The sophomore pairings are as follows:

Hayley & Regan
Joanna & Susana
Solomon & Frances
Gabriela & Micah
Cole & William & Estella
Calvin & Philippa

Please give your character's cooking skills a rating from 1 to 10 and discuss with your partner(s) what your characters are going to make! The results will be calculated with help from the RNG, but volunteer input/reaction may be taken into account.

The winning team gets to pick the menu served to the whole school on Monday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Robin also marathons the Food Network when he's home. For the apocalypse. Robin is a much less fair judge.

"The plating on this one ain't cohesive," he says about a fucking cupcake. "But the chili hot chocolate frosting is nuanced as shit."

Maggie, meanwhile, is ignorant of the nuances of baking and just likes to eat. She signed of for judging because she has an insatiable sweet tooth. Most of her critique is in the realm of, "Wow! This is amazing!" and the sound of her horfing food down followed by dramatic head roll and an enthused, "Oh my God, it's too good." Fuck cohesion, this shit is the bomb and Maggie's havin' a blast eating it.

Quinn's judging, 1/2

Qiunn "signed on" for judging because Vector strongly encouraged her to try and foster stronger bonds between the seniors and the younger years, but apparently the buddy system only the beginning.

Like Maggie, she's into eating. She doesn't marathon food shows mostly because I've never seen one and so I can't write about them without research I don't have time for rn, but as an athlete, she has extensive experience in eating everything in sight.

She begins stubbornly. Do you even know how much work she has to do on her senior project? Do you know how hard it is to expand something that's already been shrunk but that it should only expand in certain circumstances? NO, OF COURSE YOU DON'T, BECAUSE IF YOU DID, SHE WOULDN'T BE HERE, BECAUSE SHE'D BE IN THE ARTIFICING SHED WORKING ON THE MOST IMPORTANT THING SHE'S WORKED ON, EVER. UGH!!!!

The first bite might have changed something. Her angry eyebrows become neutral, her screwed-up nose relaxes, and her eyes widen. "Oh my God." She ends up almost exactly like Maggie (except the "havin' a blast" because she's so totally not). She eats her helping voraciously, and if any judges haven't finished, she pokes their plates and quietly asks, "You finished with that?"

Everything is deemed delicious.

Tess is happy to let Maggie finish off all her desserts, if she wants.

Sorry, Quinn, it's only because Maggie's sitting next to her!

Maggie giggles girlishly and gives a modest, "Oh, well, if you're sure..." BEFORE UNHINGING HER FUCKING JAW AND DEVOURING THE PLATE AND ALL. Or at least over-enthusiastically sliding the leftovers her way and digging in with enthusiastic bites in-between smirking @ Quinn.

Oh, well, that was slightly unexpected, but sure. Her initial offer still stands, even after her surprise.

QUINN'S A GROWING WOMAN. MAGGIE'S GROWN ENOUGH!

Flirting means nothing when food is on the table.

Tess rolls her eyes, "That's bull-" She stops short, because faculty/staff are present. "How else do you plate a cupcake?"

She wasn't going to mention plating because this isn't actually a cooking competition show, but from that point forward, she makes a point to mention presentation, and she almost always disagrees with Robin (except on the rare occasion he's right).

Essie is REALLY glad that Tess starts taking presentation into consideration, since whatever her team does manage to make is going to be relying heavily on that.

Also, she may or may not be terrified of Robin.
