Mask-Making Party!

THE ARTS'N'CRAFTSENING

The Masquerade might be the most hyped-up Gooseberry dance yet! Between the success of the Valentine's fundraiser and the intrigue of Mr. Calderon-Boot's new anonymity charm, there's plenty to be excited for.

During dinner on Wednesday, sharp-eyed students might notice Ivy and Laurel slip out of dinner early to make preparations for their last-minute MASK CRAFTING EXTRAVAGANZA. Also during dinner, Ms. Lilywhite announces that duelling club has been cancelled. If you'd like to complain to her about this, tough. She's gone the second dinner ends, and doesn't put in an appearance at the crafting session.

As students exit dinner, they find the Atrium transformed into a crafting wonderland. The sofas and chairs have been pushed aside to make space for large, colorful tables full of crafting supplies. There's music playing, and the twins' eclectic and clashing taste in music has resulted in a playlist reminiscent of the Kramer/Morales birthday party mix. Ivy and Laurel greet everyone enthusiastically; they're happy to demonstrate mask-making techniques, but they're even happier just to set you loose on the crafting supplies and see what happens.

WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN

  • The mask making party will take place in the Atrium after dinner! Duelling club has been cancelled for the evening so you don't have to worry about being double-booked.

  • Valentine's flowers were such a hit that Event Committee has provided all the mask-making materials for you! It's a straight-up craft store in here. All kinds of ribbon, trims, glitter, feathers, glue, markers, paper, fabric, and other embellishments are set up on the tables.

  • If you're hurting for ideas or just want a second opinion, Ivy and Laurel are here to help! They'll be offering anyone who wants it advice on what shapes, colors, animals or themes might suit them best.

  • Wand use is allowed within normal school rules, but using your hands is encouraged. After a freshman asks Sybilla Borgin how they accomplished a color changing charm, they get stuck for 20 minutes applying the charm to eager freshmen's masks.

  • Mr. Calderon-Boot is here to apply the anonymity charm to your masks, but you can also track him down tomorrow or Friday.

» Crafting Tables: Several large tables have been set up around the Atrium, and each is brimming with crafting supplies. There are no chairs and supplies are divided by color to encourage people to mingle while they craft.

» Consult the Twins: The Templetons are artistic and theatrical geniuses and they're here to tell you what kind of mask you'd look best in.

» Clean-Up: Set-up occurred during dinner, but if anyone wants to stay late to lend a hand in the clean-up process it would be much appreciated ❤

» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!

When Levi hears the twins are giving recommendations, he takes Cecil's hand and eagerly drags him over to the two as if they're a lovey-dovey couple about to get their fortunes read by a part-time psychic at the Renaissance festival.

"What should our theme be???" he asks, far too giddy for a simple consultation.

Laurel gazes at the pair with seriousness (for her, anyway).

"HmmmmMMm. I feel ... a 1700s French nobility kinda thing. Marie Antoinette. Like you just got trashed at your family villa and somehow ended up here. Coppola-esque?? Wigs! Feathers! There's even a masquerade in that movie!"

Levi hasn't seen that movie and doesn't know what Coppola-esque means (Francis Ford Coppola??), but he nods enthusiastically anyway before giving his input, "But, like... we're vampires, right??"

"OH MY GOD yes. Yes, you are. I love it. Take that aesthetic and run with it." (Laurel doesn't know a lot about real vampires and is too vaguely worried about being species-ist to make concrete recommendations here, lol).

Cecil isn't very good at crafting and figures that he and Levi need all the help that they can get (even if it's just in terms of theme), so he's happy to be pulled along by his overly enthusiastic boyfriend. Really, it's sweet how excited he is about the masquerade. He's smiling softly when they arrive at Laurel's table, but remains quiet during the exchange that follows, curiously raising his eyebrows at Laurel's suggestion and then laughing sheepishly despite himself at his boyfriend's addendum. Not just 18th century French nobility, then...but vampiric 18th century French nobility.

He can't quite picture it, but he has no doubt that Levi can. Wigs and feathers and all. He gives his boyfriend's hand a squeeze and teases, "Both of us? That's a relief. Since vampires don't bite other vampires." He maybe knows you too well, Levi. And he's maybe teasing you too. Then he remembers Laurel and blushes a little and returns his focus to her. "...What sort of masks did they wear? During the masquerade. I haven't seen the movie."

"Sort of like, your typical masquerade kinda looks? Dominos, that kind of thing. The rest is out of control, though! Those wigs. You've seen pictures of them, right? The white powder kind, just with like -- flowers and leaves and crazy things tucked in them. But -- yeah. Masks! Actually, Marie Antoinette just has this sheer black gauze one? A stripe over the eyes, kinda." Laurel gestures over her own face. "Super simple and pretty."

Cecil might've been teasing, but Levi falls for it and takes it to heart. His head swivels to look at Cecil, hurt and distress written all over his features. Because it's true. Vampires don't bite other vampires. There's no nutritional value. The moment of panicked realization is brief, though, before he whips his head back to look at Laurel. "So we could totally just half-ass some gauze and still be in theme, right?"

"YES. You literally cannot fail, just do you." Yay. She kind of wishes she'd thought of vampires now?

Cecil's smile falters when Levi looks at him. He hadn't intended to actually upset the other boy. He's about to say something, likely to apologize and reassure him (somehow), but then the expression is gone and he's focused on Laurel again. At least he's taking this well? He shakes his head and offers a sheepish smile to Laurel. "That's...good to hear, actually? I'm not sure we could sew a button between us. But hopefully we'll figure out something for these masks."

Levi shrugs, "I can probably hot glue a button. It'll be fine."

It's not gonna be fine.
