Mask-Making Party!

THE ARTS'N'CRAFTSENING

The Masquerade might be the most hyped-up Gooseberry dance yet! Between the success of the Valentine's fundraiser and the intrigue of Mr. Calderon-Boot's new anonymity charm, there's plenty to be excited for.

During dinner on Wednesday, sharp-eyed students might notice Ivy and Laurel slip out of dinner early to make preparations for their last-minute MASK CRAFTING EXTRAVAGANZA. Also during dinner, Ms. Lilywhite announces that duelling club has been cancelled. If you'd like to complain to her about this, tough. She's gone the second dinner ends, and doesn't put in an appearance at the crafting session.

As students exit dinner, they find the Atrium transformed into a crafting wonderland. The sofas and chairs have been pushed aside to make space for large, colorful tables full of crafting supplies. There's music playing, and the twins' eclectic and clashing taste in music has resulted in a playlist reminiscent of the Kramer/Morales birthday party mix. Ivy and Laurel greet everyone enthusiastically; they're happy to demonstrate mask-making techniques, but they're even happier just to set you loose on the crafting supplies and see what happens.

WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN

The mask making party will take place in the Atrium after dinner! Duelling club has been cancelled for the evening so you don't have to worry about being double-booked.

Valentine's flowers were such a hit that Event Committee has provided all the mask-making materials for you! It's a straight-up craft store in here. All kinds of ribbon, trims, glitter, feathers, glue, markers, paper, fabric, and other embellishments are set up on the tables.

If you're hurting for ideas or just want a second opinion, Ivy and Laurel are here to help! They'll be offering anyone who wants it advice on what shapes, colors, animals or themes might suit them best.

Wand use is allowed within normal school rules, but using your hands is encouraged. After a freshman asks Sybilla Borgin how they accomplished a color changing charm, they get stuck for 20 minutes applying the charm to eager freshmen's masks.

Mr. Calderon-Boot is here to apply the anonymity charm to your masks, but you can also track him down tomorrow or Friday.

» Crafting Tables: Several large tables have been set up around the Atrium, and each is brimming with crafting supplies. There are no chairs and supplies are divided by color to encourage people to mingle while they craft.

» Consult the Twins: The Templetons are artistic and theatrical geniuses and they're here to tell you what kind of mask you'd look best in.

» Clean-Up: Set-up occurred during dinner, but if anyone wants to stay late to lend a hand in the clean-up process it would be much appreciated ❤

Ennis's mask is already made and is hidden away among his belongings in his cabin. He's here to mingle, but also to lend his crafting skills to his artistically-challenged peers. He tries to keep a look out for anyone who needs help that the twins aren't already helping, but occasionally gets caught up in the music and starts swaying and bobbing in place instead of going table-to-table to help.

Ulysses took Gavin's comment as a challenge, so he's here to make a mask. Unfortunately, the Ogletwins were 100% correct: he sucks at this. He's hyper-focused on his scissors, tongue sticking out in concentration, and yet, somehow, he has not once cut in a straight line. There's paste in his hair. There is no paste on his mask... if you can even call it a mask. It's weird, because he's pretty sure he was the best in his class at this when he was in kindergarten? Oh well. He tried. Next time, he'll stick to buying things with money like a normal person.

Wilde's here because Dueling and Fencing got cancelled, and he's curious about Mr. Calderon-Boot's charmwork. Though he's mostly avoiding the twins, he does manage to wave kind of woodenly at Ivy, and he sits at the table for a while just looking around and squinting at the supplies/other people's efforts.

(Maybe he could use some help??)

Anyway, after a moment he gathers a little pile of random items and starts tinkering with them, but it's obvious there's no direction or intent to what he's doing.

Trixie, hearing about this awesome crafting time, happily comes to set up her stand. Grabbing a lot of materials out of her cosplay stash back in her cabin, Trixie tosses out a blanket on the ground and starts to lay everything out. In a pair of cat ears, she begins to call out to passing classmates. " Khajiit has wares if you have coin." which of course she isn't going to charge anyone at all for this but she's having fun. Trixie has even brought along many rolls of duct tape and padding so she can take molds of peoples faces to make masks out of Worbla if they'd like. This is Trixie's jam. Come check her out and she will make anything. Just like Halloween she lives for this.

Clem's not a hundred percent sure what she's doing here, because someone hasn't asked her to the dance yet, and also she doesn't usually go to the dances in the first place. But the crafting party was like right there when she left dinner, and she figured she might as well cover her bases or maybe just take her aggression out on a piece of construction paepr. So here she is nonetheless, brandishing a pair of safety scissors to disastrous effect. She has no idea what she's doing, but she's doing it in shades of purple glitter.

Chris is here because duelling and fencing got cancelled. He's not even going to the dance. And he hates half these people. But he's decided he should be fine with moping and being antisocial. And he also has a competition going on with Rosy. On who can make the worst mask. And he's gonna win that.

He has selective artist abilities that he's not bad at. He could probably make a decent mask if that was truly why he was here. So Chris is over at a table with his scissors and a mountain of material he doesn't necessarily need but hell yeah he's gonna somehow work into this mask.

He's making her a fox mask. Whether it'll still resemble a fox when he's done with it is still to be determined.

Unlike you total losers over in Art Hell, Riley is great at this artsy shit. Which is good, because Riley is good at approximately two things, and one of those things is being thrown in the air, which isn’t very marketable. She’s got so many feathers and flowers and glitters and paints and sequins and masks around her, and the more she does, the more she realizes one mask is not going to be enough, okay.

Like, obviously she wants to wear a pink one, but then it might be kind of obvious the tiny pink bitch is her, and she wants to be the anonymous makeout queen. So maybe a blue or green one, too.

Or maybe a pink one, a blue one, and then one that looks like something a boy would wear. To get the straight girls to get up close and personal with her and then wonder why they’ve got lipstick marks on their neck much, much later.

Basically, Riley ends up with like eight of these things, and she’s gonna have to winnow it down. And give some of them away. Ugh, choosing which one(s) of her adorable and awesome and super duper sexy masks she’s gonna wear is going to be SO HARD, why is life so hard????

Jacob is looking at the crafting supplies in front of him like he's been tasked with solving the world's greatest mystery. The fact that this dance actually has a theme beyond 'wear fancy clothes' had escaped his notice when he'd agreed to go with Isaiah. He could just wear a black domino and be done with it, but he's also here because duelling and fencing got cancelled and everyone is congregating here so mask making must be a thing??

While he will certainly keep those 3D glasses for later hooliganism, Xavier has decided that perhaps there are more creative avenues to take. In the back of his mind, he knows that he will probably just end up buying something, but the promise of glitter (and of tracking it all over the cabin when he gets in for the night) is too tempting.

Xavier is not artistic, but he is ...enthusiastic and surprisingly precise. Even as the glitter glue and felt call to him, he takes the time to sketch out a few very geometric-looking ideas that he will never, ever, in any reality, be able to recreate himself, on a piece of paper.

Cecil isn't very artistic outside of the kitchen, but that doesn't stop him from coming to the crafting event to support the efforts of Ivy and Laurel, help with the setting up and cleaning up, admire the efforts of his more talented classmates, and....struggle to create something worthwhile for is date with Levi. He tries to make up for a lack of natural ability or vision with care and attention to detail, resulting in something that is both mediocre and very slow-coming. Don't worry about him, guys. He's just going to be here all night.

Despite this, it's nice to have so many students here working on something together and the eager, harmonious environment has him in a good mood.

'Art Hell' is right.

Quinn's been deeeep in the library all week playing catch-up after she spent the weekend working on Operation Save Our Butts, and when she enters the Atrium she blinks blearily at the mountains of sequins. She'd maybe, just a little, forgotten that the dance was this week? ... Because she'd forgotten what week it was? ... Crap.

So now there's a helpless jay standing beside a table and picking slowly through a heap of miscellaneous supplies. She'll figure it out. Probably. Hopefully. oh no it's crafts? saaaave herrrr

Despite Cricket’s fervent enthusiasm for DIY projects, she’s never been particularly artistic or imaginative. Her style is less ‘Met Gala’ and more ‘22 Tips, and Tricks For Timmy’s 10th Birthday,’ which isn’t exactly the look she’s envisioning for her Senior masquerade. Still, when she walks out of the cafeteria and into the glorious embrace of school funded craft supplies, she can't resist the opportunity to make, at least, one (1) mask. The fact that someone else is hosting and she needn’t worry about smiling through snide and played out comments regarding her LoOoOoVe for GLITTER makes the appeal of mask crafting all the more enticing.

She finds herself a quiet corner in the Atrium and collects her supplies (felt, scissors, glue gun, normal shit). Yes, she can see her brother making a fool of himself on the other side of the room, but she is immune to his helpless doe eyed routine and this is not his moment. She has another awkward young man in mind, who she assumes (without asking) is in need of a timely and thematic mask. Amongst the hubbub, she sets about sketching on a swath of gray felt with a serene expression on her face.

Irene sidles into the Atrium and picks up a blank mask, looking slightly bemused by all the heaps of crafting supplies. (After three years of living in Craft Central, she should know what most of this stuff is, but...)

Eschewing anything shiny, sparkly, or glittery, she reaches instead for some of the more subtle embellishments and lays them against the mask to judge colour and placement. Just because she's only here for the chance to study Mr Calderon-Boot's charmwork up close doesn't mean she's going to half-ass creating a mask.

	Isabelle isn't very good at this whole thing, so she asks the twins. She plans on wearing white, but she doesn't know what kind of mask she should go with! Ivy stays late after the event ends/the Lodge closes for the clean-up. After tidying up, rearranging the furniture, and removing glitter from the carpeting (thank you, magic, for making an otherwise impossible task relatively simple), Ivy spends a solid half-hour inventorying the remaining craft supplies. This really should've lasted the school until next Halloween. That'll teach event committee to exercise a little moderation on behalf of the student body at large.

Although she manages to eventually pack the remaining usable supplies away for later, it took her so long that it's now pushing curfew. Oops. At least she's back to her usual methods of rule-breaking instead of drunk hill sledding.
