SENIOR MONTHLY BONDING: February

SENIOR MONTHLY BONDING

This February afternoon, the seniors meet in the kitchens for a bonding activity with Prospero, assisted by his companion elf, Ambrosia.

Students are broken up into pairs, and then they're each given a basket of secret ingredients that they must make a meal out of. They have exactly 90 minutes, after which their creations will be judged by Sybilla Borgin, Ulysses Quayle, & Clementine Decourt. The volunteer judges won't know who made what entree. (OOC: Please allow players who do not play a senior to have first dibs on volunteer slots. If there are still open spots by 5 PM Mountain Time, then anyone may volunteer.)

Today, the activity begins with the presentation of the main ingredient, a geoduck. Prospero teaches the seniors how to properly prepare this large clam. Here's hoping you weren't giggling too much at its appearance to learn what to do with it. If you're vegetarian or squeamish, you can trade it out for mangosteens.

Everyone's basket of secret ingredients contains:
  • Geoduck or mangosteens.
  • Artichoke hearts.
  • Spring greens.
  • Blue corn tortillas.
  • Blood oranges.

Each creation must use every ingredient in the basket. House-elves will retrieve any other requested ingredients (e.g. flour, eggs, sugar, avocados), but Prospero will be on the lookout for anyone who is rude or makes unreasonable demands. Contestants are allowed the use of magic, assuming they are responsible with it, and are given access to all the equipment in the kitchen. House-elves will help students with equipment they don't understand, or with anything they feel unsafe doing (i.e. knife use).

The senior pairings are as follows:

Isaiah & Robin
Wilhelmina & Henrietta
Nathaniel & Xavier
Tabitha & Cressida
Ivy & Beatrix
Asher & Laurel
Ty & Jesse
Jeremiah & Irene
Ravinder & Leonardo
Ryan & Zoey
Cecil & Rafael
Diego & Sun-mi
Penelope & Magdalen
Theresa & Quinn
Christopher & Levi

Please give your character's cooking skills a rating from 1 to 10 and discuss with your partner(s) what your characters are going to make! The results will be calculated with help from RNG, but creativity and volunteer input/reaction may be taken into account.

The winning team gets to pick the menu served to the whole school on Monday for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

A kindergarten craft... Nodding slowly, Quinn looks between the two bowls a final time. She talks about her childhood as 'growing up in a daycare'โ€”she's got this. Do you even know how many times she's made glitter crafts? So many times.

She pauses as she remembers the last time she had to help six-year-old apply shiny flakes to a toy dinosaur... and how long it had taken to get the glue out of her hair. Oh boy. But that was August ages ago! She's changed! Surely? And Tess is here, and Tess believes in her, so she repeats, "I've got this," as she slooowly but suuuurely dips the clam into the bowl... oh. It's the dry bowl. When she realizes her mistake she hastily drops it into the wet bowl. And then she has to fish it out with a fork, but stabs it instead.

Luckily, Tess is focused on her own tasks. "Dousing update, Noble: I'm a champ." Hopefully that was convincing enough.

"I knew you had it in you," Tess replies without looking, working at dicing all the ingredients for the salsa. She's got experience with a knife, and while she's not professional chef fast, she's got quick hands without managing to lose the tip of a finger. This was definitely a job that she was going to have to do because, particularly today, Quinn might actually chop off a finger. That wasn't actually a huge deal, considering magic could put it right back on, but bloody food is contaminated food, which means getting disqualified.

They work in silence on separate tasks for a while, and Tess meant to check on Quinn, but she got too focused. Not until she's mixing all the salsa ingredients does she ask, "Hey, Q, how's it going?"

In her own little world, Quinn jumps at Tess' voice. "Ummm," she looks down. Daydreaming and clams don't really mix well and after the unfortunate incident with the fork, she'd decided to give up and use her fingers (she washed her hands first, she swears!) "Ummmm... The clams are... good." If by 'good' Quinn actually means 'dipped in the most slapdash of ways and made a mess of, much like my hands, which are covered in this sticky concoction and what is it anyway' then yeah, they're so good!

When Tess finally checks back in with Quinn, she's taken aback. "It's fine," she says, as much to herself as Quinn. Tess is more... precise. But it's okay. Taco filling doesn't have to be pretty. "Let's get these little chodes in the oven," Tess says confidently. "We got this."
