UNSANCTIONED CAMPING

UNSANCTIONED CAMPING

This is almost certainly a bad idea, but when faced with the arrival of family members the next day, who doesn't need to relieve a little stress? After curfew, some students slip out to the wooded area between Azurcrest and the sorting cave. There's a scattering of tents, and in the middle a campfire blazes.

The mood isn't as wild as a Grotto party, and most of the entertainment is found in sitting, talking, and drinking. Alcohol is available in reasonable amounts, enough for everyone to have a drink or two (or three if you really need it).

» Around the fire: The forest doesn't have the same warming effect as the Grotto, but it feels very... normal? Just woods and trees and the hoot of an owl. Are you relieved, or do you feel lonely?

» BERTIE BOTT'S EVERY FLAVOUR BEANS: Someone got their hands on a family sized bag of these imported sweets. At first, it's just taken to be candy, but as the truth about these jelly beans is fully understood, it becomes a spectacle.
  • There's a group of students sitting in a circle, passing the bag around. The idea is that you take one, and then everyone waits in anticipation for your reaction. (Let's be real, they're all hoping you get earwax or cigarette ash.) You must then guess what it is before passing the bag to the left.

  • In game terms, this means reply to the root comment, and we will use RNG to pick out a flavor for you. You can then write your character's reaction and attempt to identify what they just put in their mouth.

  • Official results for your random flavor could come from Diego ([info]morale), Sy ([info]stokers), or the mod journal ([info]goosemods).
» The Tents: The magically warmed tents make another appearance. They're filled with pillows and blankets and should be pleasant to sleep in.

» The Morning: In the early hours of the morning, students (hopefully) begin to sneak back to their campgrounds, and (maybe) avoid the eyes of vigilant prefects.

» Did you get in trouble?: If you did, reply here. The punishment will be two nights of detention starting Monday, and a loss of 10 house points per student. Visiting parents will also find out about the indiscretion.

» OOC: Questions, comments & concerns.

Chris and Rafael

Rafael is about to leave for barre when he hears the distinct shuffling noise of someone approaching, and then opening the cabin door. And there's Chris, accompanied by the odor of party. It's not unheard of for his roommates to sneak out sometimes, and all Rafael asks is that they try to hide it from him. Exceptions, clauses, addenda. They keep things orderly and safe, and save him from spending all day disarming traps or chasing Chris down. They at least allow him to feel as though sometimes his roommates respect the responsibility he'd been given.

"Welcome back," Rafael says icily.

For the most part, Chris does respect Rafael's responsibilities enough to break rules within the boundaries silently set by Rafael. Chris isn't sure if it's respect so much as the simple desire to avoid the tone of voice Rafael is using right now. "Uh thanks, actually I got stuck in a trap last night and had to spend all night outside. In the cold. I'm surprised you didn't hear me - I tried calling your name I think there was possibly a bear. In the uh...vicinity. Could've died."

Chris is lying straight through his teeth, straight to Rafael's. It's completely unnecessary since they can both smell the alcohol. And yet here he is.

Chris can probably see Rafael's jaw clench with the effort to keep his face impassive. He knows he sounds too controlled when he speaks. Too calm to be anything but angry. Rafael's mind wanders, as he wonders if he'd ever have the charisma for politics anyway. No one will ask him to be gentle in law enforcement.

"Stop." Rafael holds up a hand up sharply. "No one is in the mood for this. I am reporting you to Vector for being out of the cabin all night."

Chris does watch Rafael's jaw clench. He's learned to take that as a sign of extreme anger. He considers arguing. But then he remembers that every time he disagrees, Ramirez calls it a tantrum. Like they're all children Ramirez has to babysit. So he decides to let it go.

Because fuck it. "Alright," he says, which has probably become a universal sign of annoyance for Chris.
