Your cousin wrote to me and explained the ceremony. It sounds beautiful, but I have grave concerns about it being too intense to be something I am ready for, and also stuffing up something that appears to have great cultural significance I also want something that puts us on a much more equal footing.

Instead, I suggest we just talk. Just you and me, somewhere with no-one else around. But you have to promise that this stays between us, because I don't want half of Ribbonfin asking us about things that are incredibly personal.

I can understand that. I wanted you to know how very serious I am about making things right. Because as I'm sure Kele told you, bad spirits between those with whom we are in close contact can cause sickness, can weaken our magic and overall lead to bad omens. I don't want that for either of us.

I can do that. Anywhere you like, whenever you like.

Not convinced by any of that but OK.

After the dance but before home works for me.

All right, that sounds good. Perhaps Monday then? I'm not going home, so I'm free any time.
