MISTLETOE: DAY 2

MISTLETOE: DAY 2

Gooseberry's not free of this ridiculous kissing game plague yet.

Starting Tuesday morning, the mistletoe has largely been scared out of the lodge by Mr. Hightower, and has moved outside. Students wake up, only to find their way to breakfast and class blocked by yet more of the winding plant.

Just like yesterday, anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS
  1. Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout campus, hanging from branches and lamp posts, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

  2. It has not moved inside cabins, but may be located on their exterior.

  3. Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

  4. If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

  5. The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

  6. Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire just in general???)

  7. Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» Trails: The mistletoe makes use of lamp posts and overhanging branches.

» Gardens: A veritable warzone of kissing plants.

» North: Azurcest: Enough trees to be dangerous, especially on the approach.

» East: Ribbonfin: Is nowhere safe???

» South: Ebonhide: Of all the houses, heavily wooded Ebonhide is hit the worst.

» West: Coppertale: The safest campground. Just avoid the lamp posts and be careful of awnings.

» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!

Special shout-out to Josie for giving us the idea for the mistletoe epidemic. ♥

Isaiah is late to literally every class today because he spends so much time trying to creep around any and all sign of mistletoe. You guys, he's late for music. And it STILL DOESN'T HELP.

He hates everything.

Open for multiple rescuers if anyone feels like tormenting Isaiah a bit.

Chris will deny having jogged. He's not a great person. He's enjoying this prank just as much as Levi for the exact same reason as Levi. But instead of getting caught everywhere, he's just gonna find people to kiss everywhere. It's going pretty great.

"Hey, I'm here." But does that mean he can't help a brother who happens to look extremely attractive when he gets pissed (Isaiah's basically the hulk of arousal) out? By steadily seducing that sexual hulk by following him to every class and kissing him when necessary. Is that not a completely selfless, ulterior motiveless plan? Maybe Chris will need Isaiah to kiss him during this journey? Who knows. Anything can happen. Or - literally two things can happen, but still, anything.

"Where you want it? Wanna take a break and express your anger away from impressionable freshmen? I mean I'm pretty giving in these trying times."

By the time Chris arrives, Isaiah is about ready to boil over- as if he hasn't already been in his journal. The fact that he is even willing to entertain the idea of a kiss buddy, much less accept Christopher Park as said buddy rather than begging one of the other Ribbonfin seniors, much less actually rant with the guy about all of this, is very indicative of his mental state.

Bad enough that his usual haven isn't safe and hasn't been since yesterday. Now Ribbonfin is invaded too, and by tomorrow morning he'll probably have to kiss all his roommates with tongue just to get to the loo. This sucks. It sucks so much that he is willing to say that it sucks. Loudly!

The sight of Chris brings relief- at least he'll be able to move in a minute- but not enough to offset the anger, and besides, Chris's appearance does mean that he's going to have to go through with actually letting the guy kiss him in a minute here. And Merlin, does he hate forced physical contact. Or forced social situations. Or...really, every part of this, actually.

So. Still angry. Really, really angry.

"The freshmen probably did this," he mutters, not quite a growl but pretty close. He takes a deep breath. It doesn't help much. "Unless it was Vargas."

Ironically, Chris doesn't look even remotely upset. It's unusual for him. Pranks tend to piss him off. Especially if he's the victim of them. But Isaiah is seething. And that's unusual. And weirdly attractive. Chris hasn't had much to do with Isaiah the entire time they've been here. After sharing five class together this year. Because the kid looks like he's got a stick shoved far up his ass. But today....today Chris has seen the light.

"Probably not," Chris says helpfully. "I've seen her idea of a prank. There was a lot more yelling and not much else. Probably wants to take the glory of this shitshow by defending the prank until everybody just believes she did it. But those freshmen assholes did spike our tea. Why not add growing invasive plants to that growing list. Fuckers."

All right. Isaiah isn't actually put off of the thought that it was Penelope who did this by that- she's awfully goddamn vehement about defending the thing and her knowledge thereof to have no skin in the game, to use a sports metaphor that Isaiah only barely understands- but even this pissed off, he's not going to start that argument. Chris isn't stuck, you see. Chris is fully capable of walking off and leaving him here, and then who knows how long he'll be waiting, or who it will be who finds him.

With his luck, it'll be Penelope herself. So no. Not worth the breath. Besides, whoever did this, he hates them regardless.

"Little assholes," he agrees sharply. Either way, they are. They Amortentia'd everyone, after all.

Chris is an asshole but there is probably only one person in this whole school he'd leave in this position and that person isn't Isaiah. Either way, he wants to stick around to see more of Isaiah's anger. His face lights up at not just the cussing but the tone Isaiah uses.

"Give me your hand," he says, offering his own. Isaiah doesn't like the whole kissing thing, so Chris assumes he wants to do this as impersonal as possible.

Right. Kissing. Kissing has to happen now or he's stuck here forever, and Isaiah really hates this day. Kissing is fine, kissing is good when you're in the mood to do it, but not like this.

He fidgets a little, as much as he can while glued to the spot, but in the end he reaches out to give Chris his hand without comment. It's hard not to flinch, both because he doesn't do great with not-actually-welcome physical contact and because everything about this situation is so incredibly awkward that he wants to curl up and die. Every time.

Chris might enjoy making things awkward, but he can practically feel the sheer discomfort rolling off of this guy. It felt like more than just embarrassment - this guy seems to want to flinch at any kind of physical contact. He is fucking fidgeting, and Chris almost wants to apologize to the point that he has to mentally remind himself that he's an asshole. Assholes don't apologize unless somebody dies.

So instead of apologizing, he makes this as painless as possible. He takes Isaiah's hand, and brings it to his lips to kiss the back of it. Then he releases it and steps back. And even better - he also doesn't make some dumb joke about it. He doesn't really say anything. He's not quite sure why - apparently this nice shit he's been doing to Diego and Cecil is just contagious. Which is an annoying complication he hadn't expected.

Isaiah and Addy, his stalker

It's been a probably fun joke that Addy follows Isaiah around to make sure he doesn't get lost in the woods. And okay, it's not like she stalks him. She sees him sometimes and makes a point to walk him a few steps longer than she would the usual Ribbonfin Senior. If he ever told her to go away, she totally would. Today, she wasn't following him at all, but DOES stop to smile and then realize he's just standing still. "Ooooh." she looks up for verification, and there's the mistletoe. "I mean. You're not lost,at least?" She extends her hand out in an offer of help, no questions needed.

Isaiah likes Addy, insofar as he likes any Azurcrests/people he doesn't know well. At least she seems to enjoy his self-deprecating jokes. There's that. And she's grown on him recently, through sheer proximity if nothing else.

Still. This is a hellaciously uncomfortable situation for him.

"You have no idea how much I wish I was lost instead," he says, wry and utterly truthful all at once. "Well. Depending on how far into the forest this damn stuff has penetrated."

"It moves fast." Which, no kidding, honestly. She glances up at the branches, like she's expecting them to be filling up with the stuff now. Luckily, no. She smiles like this is a normal Tuesday. "But it's out of the lodge, so I think the end step is like, luring it all into one greenhouse and then..." She makes the appropriate kaboom gesture with her hands.

"Why do I think that means we'll all have to gather there like bait?" Isaiah mutters, rubbing a hand over his face in consternation. It's not outside the realm of possibility.

"That would be more comforting if I was good at running," Isaiah replies dryly. He's not. Athleticism has never been his strong point. "Think of me fondly when the mistletoe eats me."

"If I wouldn't let a forest lose you, I'm not gonna let plants eat you." Is very matter of fact. "I'd be guilty for prooobably years, it'd be really stupid." Addy smiles, trying to be encouraging but probably too bright. "So let me at leaaast get you out of here for now, you'll get a head start."

"That's...very kind of you?" Isaiah tries. He's honestly not sure from that speech if Addy is being selfless, self-involved, both, or neither. She's very confusing in her...straight-forward-ness.

Maybe she does talk too much sometimes. It isn't always as comforting and easing as she'd like." Addy shakes her head to dismiss the kind of question. "It's whatever. Sorry. Need me to see your hand?" Scaling back and asking for permission felt right.

"Oh nooooo, Isaiah," a familiar voice bemoans from behind Isaiah. Diego's getting better at dodging the mistletoe, but this is the first time he's actually come across anyone he needed to save. He picks up his pace and jogs towards his friend.

"Whatever you do, don't move!" he calls, a broad attempt to get Isaiah to smile.

Isaiah is cranky. He keeps getting caught even though he's being really careful and he is sick of people kissing him and this is awful.

So he does not even try to crack a smile at Diego's joke. If you can even call it a joke.

In fact. "That's a terrible joke."

This is how cranky he is.

"Here? In this exact spot? No. Five minutes," Isaiah says, a little sharp, gesturing back along the trail. "About forty feet that way for twenty minutes this morning, and back closer to the lodge for a while, and that's not counting in the lodge yesterday,</i> or around Ribbonfin, because no matter how careful I am, it keeps getting me. I almost missed Music this morning. Music."

Diego's shoulders sag. "That was me yesterday," he admits, remembering the embarrassment with merciless clarity. He at least was able to play it off. Smile. Laugh. No it's cool it's fine, just Diego being Diego, hahaha.

"I skipped dinner to avoid it. Not even Ravi's best dad lecture about three square meals a day could get me back in there." Diego stops himself from going on any more. "Sorry. Let me get you out of this, I'll walk with you wherever you're going."
