MISTLETOE: DAY 2

MISTLETOE: DAY 2

Gooseberry's not free of this ridiculous kissing game plague yet.

Starting Tuesday morning, the mistletoe has largely been scared out of the lodge by Mr. Hightower, and has moved outside. Students wake up, only to find their way to breakfast and class blocked by yet more of the winding plant.

Just like yesterday, anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS
  1. Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout campus, hanging from branches and lamp posts, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

  2. It has not moved inside cabins, but may be located on their exterior.

  3. Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

  4. If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

  5. The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

  6. Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire just in general???)

  7. Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» Trails: The mistletoe makes use of lamp posts and overhanging branches.

» Gardens: A veritable warzone of kissing plants.

» North: Azurcest: Enough trees to be dangerous, especially on the approach.

» East: Ribbonfin: Is nowhere safe???

» South: Ebonhide: Of all the houses, heavily wooded Ebonhide is hit the worst.

» West: Coppertale: The safest campground. Just avoid the lamp posts and be careful of awnings.

» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!

Special shout-out to Josie for giving us the idea for the mistletoe epidemic. ♥

Ferdinand doesn't want to do another day of Kiss Patrol, and kind of hopes, as he's heading to the battlefield/the lodge that all the mistletoe will have miraculously disappeared by today. He is of course completely wrong. Having missed the memo that it has in fact spread to the trees, he's looking more for ice covered trails than any danger from above. When that proves to be his undoing he sighs and, glancing around to make sure no one sees, kisses the back of his own hand. Nothing happens.

Someone had to try it at least once, though.

Rosy noticed the mistletoe outside the cabin. Rosy is, like, this close to just burning down the Ribbonfin campsite. Luckily, they're right on the water, and she knows a waste of time when she sees one. She just also does not want to spend another day with her eyes on the ceiling, waiting for terrible Coppertales (or Coppertales she actually liked, same thing) to come save her.

She was half intent on not kissing anyone today, no matter how pathetic or stuck or hungry they were, because she was sick of that nonsense, but...then she saw Ferdie. And she sighed. Okay, fine, she just wasn't going to save any assholes today. That was still at least half her social circle.

"Yeah, see, now nowhere is safe," she says as she comes up beside him. "Need a rescue?" Like, obviously he does, but it's polite to ask dammit.

Ferdie silently thanks God or Whatever that it's Rosy and not literally anyone else. She'll get exactly how stupid frustrating it is. "We can't even stay in our own campsites and play dead." He returns. "Which I wasn't doing anyway, so it can stop with the karma for no reason." He doesn't sound mad, just incredibly resigned. "So yes, help, please."

"God, and I bet they've just surrendered the library to the wild," Rosy says with a sigh, and she half believes herself because she is nothing if not an eternal pessimist.

"All right," she turns from the trail, which she was eyeing with dread. So many hidden horrors. So many opportunities to be late to meals. "Well, pick your poison: cheek or a princely peck on the hand."

Ferdie isn't a pessimist, really. But he isn't as much of an optimist when there isn't any cause for it. "The library'll be the first thing to go. It's probably way too late and we should just burn it." Then he remembers exactly who he's talking to, and grins. "No real burning. And I don't care. Whichever you aren't sick of." He isn't sure it was healthy to be so sick of kissing at this very early point of his life, but here they are.

"This is probably the end of the school, honestly. And possibly Utah." She shrugs and turns to the task of saving her prefecting partner, not too concerned with the environmental fallout of a Magic Mistletoe outbreak.

"Well then, Prince Ferdinand." Rosy dips into an exaggerated curtsy and takes Ferdinand's hand in hers, giving it a quick brush of her lips. "I grant you freedom."
