MISTLETOE: DAY 1

It's chaos at Gooseberry Alternative High School. Again.

Marilyn Fairchild and Penelope Vargas are collaborating on making a cheeky magically altered version of mistletoe, which is in the Charms classroom for safe keeping. The intent is for use in party games, but the current version is way too enthusiastic. All’s going well until a white crow flies in through an open window. Before Marilyn or Penelope can do anything about it, the beautiful bird has snatched their specimen in its beak and is flying back out the window. That’s weeks of work!!!

By the end of the day, mistletoe has sprouted all over the Lodge. Anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS

Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout the lodge, hanging from the ceiling, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

By noon, it's widespread enough that it's become a serious inconvenience. Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire in the lodge???)

The lodge is not as large as Hogwarts castle, but it's still spacious with plenty of corridors to get lost in if you want to get your character stranded.

Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» Atrium: The busy sitting area of the Lodge. There's lots of mistletoe, but just as many people to save you.

» Cafeteria: Bustling at mealtimes, quiet for the rest of the day.

» First Floor Halls & Balconies: Winding corridors with windows that look out into the woods.

» Second Floor Halls & Balconies: Long hallways, some of which overlook the atrium and the students below.

» Third Floor Halls & Balconies: These balconies have a stunning view of the lake and surrounding forests. They are also the least populated.

» Classrooms: Some are in use, some are empty.

» Library: Is nowhere sacred?! Ms. Petrichor is incensed at the mistletoe in her library. Every time she finds a new sprig, she marks the floor with an angry X.

Now that it's becoming clear that Levi intends to turn this into a game rather than a single playful instance, Cecil blushes but doesn't immediately go rushing to his boyfriend's 'rescue'. His dark eyes lower rather than watching Levi, though a moment spent biting his lower lip gives away any attempt he might want to make at playing it cool (like he could anyway). He knows that he's being teased; that doesn't mean he's not tempted anyway. "...What am I 'initiating', exactly?" he asks.

Levi smacks his sufficiently MOISTENED lips and tucks the tube of chapstick back in his pocket for safe keeping. "You're going to be bold and kiss me first and I'm going to pretend like I didn't just ask you to do it so that I can swoon over how forward you've become in your public displays of affection," he explains casually, "And then you're going to kiss me again even after I'm free just because you want to."

Cecil glances back up and his expression is still one of affection, but his blush has gotten even deeper and the more bold Levi tells him he's going to be...the less bold he actually seems to feel. Because doing all that in the moment is one thing (one wonderful thing), but being told to do that so blatantly is another and the request leaves him feeling like he's going to be...evaluated. And he's almost certainly going to fall short. And suddenly this isn't that good, warm, being pushed to do new things by his boyfriend embarrassment anymore. It's just the regular kind. "Levi. I..."

Levi loves Cecil's blush, but hates making him feel genuinely uncomfortable. He studies his expression for a moment to try to discern between shyness and discomfort but decides that it's the latter. "It's okay," he yields, voice softening in an attempt to soothe. He tries to move toward him but quickly realizes he can't and offers his hand out to him instead. "You don't have to. I'm sorry."

Cecil doesn't want to look relieved, but he does and he gives a small shake of his head. He feels like he should be the one apologizing. He steps closer and takes Levi's hand, but doesn't place the kiss to free him there; instead, he gets a small, quick kiss on the lips. He squeezes the other boy's hand, then says slowly, "It's okay. I'm sorry too. I've...got to patrol, though. Do you want to come with me? Or are you having too much fun down here?" He smiles a little at that last; yes, Levi, he is assuming that this game goes beyond just him.

Levi's comfortable with being turned down and doesn't make it into a thing. He's already over it.

"Of course I want to come with you." He lifts their joined hands so he can twirl himself out from beneath the mistletoe. "I want to kiss you free. And it'll help me learn the mistletoe placement for later. I'm going for streaks. I'm gonna try to get kisses from all our roomies, and maybe our cheerleaders once I get that streak. Then I'll move on to AzurQuid players."

	While Cecil isn't capable of letting this awkward moment go quite as quickly as Levi, his boyfriend's immediate ease does help. He grins and shakes his head for a moment, "That's...ambitious. Don't forget you've still got classes today, though?" Still holding Levi's hand, he starts to walk, trusting that the other boy will move with him. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"I'm nothing if not ambitious!" he declares, ignoring the bit about classes. He's clearly not ambitious enough to give a shit about those. He plans to walk in late to Merrill's, get "trapped" during the length of Charms, party it up in Magizoology, and block the stairwell to Astronomy until one of his classmates kisses him. It's gonna be a good day.

"Sprig up ahead, to our left, hanging on the opposite side of the archway we're about to pass through," he announces, showing that he's clearly already memorized at least some of the mistletoe placement. He gently guides Cecil to the right before they even reach the offending archway. "That one's tricky because you can't see it from this side until you're already under it."

"Levi," Cecil starts, likely about to say something about those classes his boyfriend had so blatantly not mentioned, but the warning about the upcoming mistletoe makes him look up and he lets Levi lead him away from it. He hasn't been caught under the stuff yet...and he really doesn't want to be. Once they pass through the arch and he spots it, he exhales a small breath and turns his dark eyes back to the other boy, "Thanks. You've...been at this all morning, haven't you?" He's not sure if he should be exasperated or impressed. Can he be both? Still, he lifts Levi's hand to his lips and kisses it gently; a second 'thank you' for catching him.

"Maybe we should make a map?" he suggests after a moment, ever the Head Boy thinking of what might help the other students. After a pause, he sighs. "Though, there's more showing up all the time, isn't here?"

The tone in which Cecil says Levi's name sends a pleasant little shiver down his spine. It's similar to the tone that told him not to climb on the roof. Because it's dangerous, or whatever. Mmm, valid concern from the Head Boy over his well-being. Mmmm.

"I wouldn't say all morning. Maybe, like... Half an hour. I woke up not even an hour ago." His hair is in messy, uncombed waves, still tousled in the back from his pillow. "Only overachievers wake up early," he playfully accuses, narrowing his eyes at his boyfriend to hiss out a, "Cecil," before laughing. "And only overachievers make maps. I mean, we could make a map-- we both know I'm a fantastic artist, but that shit's gonna spread. It won't be relevant in an hour and even if we make it, people are gonna be looking down at the map and not up at the mistletoe."

But," Here, he sighs, sounding frustrated with his inability to find some way to improve the situation, "You're right.
