MISTLETOE: DAY 1

MISTLETOE: DAY 1

It's chaos at Gooseberry Alternative High School. Again.

Marilyn Fairchild and Penelope Vargas are collaborating on making a cheeky magically altered version of mistletoe, which is in the Charms classroom for safe keeping. The intent is for use in party games, but the current version is way too enthusiastic. All’s going well until a white crow flies in through an open window. Before Marilyn or Penelope can do anything about it, the beautiful bird has snatched their specimen in its beak and is flying back out the window. That’s weeks of work!!!

By the end of the day, mistletoe has sprouted all over the Lodge. Anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS
  1. Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout the lodge, hanging from the ceiling, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

  2. By noon, it's widespread enough that it's become a serious inconvenience. Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

  3. If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

  4. The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

  5. Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire in the lodge???)

  6. The lodge is not as large as Hogwarts castle, but it's still spacious with plenty of corridors to get lost in if you want to get your character stranded.

  7. Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» Atrium: The busy sitting area of the Lodge. There's lots of mistletoe, but just as many people to save you.

» Cafeteria: Bustling at mealtimes, quiet for the rest of the day.

» First Floor Halls & Balconies: Winding corridors with windows that look out into the woods.

» Second Floor Halls & Balconies: Long hallways, some of which overlook the atrium and the students below.

» Third Floor Halls & Balconies: These balconies have a stunning view of the lake and surrounding forests. They are also the least populated.

» Classrooms: Some are in use, some are empty.

» Library: Is nowhere sacred?! Ms. Petrichor is incensed at the mistletoe in her library. Every time she finds a new sprig, she marks the floor with an angry X.

» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!

Special shout-out to Josie for giving us the idea for the mistletoe epidemic. ♥

This is a pleasant turn. Kenzie even almost smiles. Almost.

"Who could ever turn down lips like yours?" she says, and it's not even a joke. Cricket Quayle is beautiful; anyone with eyes can see that. Sometimes she's a little high strung, but that's not an unappealing trait. She's the kind of girl Kenzie could take home to her parents and make them proud... if Kenzie were a strapping young man on the hunt for a pureblood wife. Too bad Kenzie didn't like little Uly half as much as big sister Cricket.

"In all seriousness, I'd be grateful. I keep telling the little freshman I don't bite, but would you believe it, they think I'm lying." She tosses her hair over her shoulder.

Kenzie's flirtations are bolstering. Cricket knows she's pretty; there are no illusions of false modesty among the Quayles, but she's not blind to the way people perceive her either. To most, a soft touch and fawning praise from Cricket reads ike a mother's love, leaving her feeling sexless and inept. Kenzie is just the opposite. The taller girl reads as calculating, without the worrying glimpse of whirring gears behind the eyes. Standing alone with her in a quiet corridor feels a little dangerous, even on a Monday in the middle of the day.

It's rare that people make specific comments about Cricket's appearance. They say she's sweet, kind, maybe beautiful, but never sexy. Kenzie's direct comment about Cricket's lips elicits a coy twist to that very feature. "Ya don't bite?" she tuts, "Guess I came up here for nothin' then."

Kenzie presses her fingertips to her lips like she's hiding a smile. She hadn't expected Cricket to play along, but her response is delightful. Kenzie sometimes wonders why she bothers with boys at all. They're too easy to scare off. Women at least find her amusing... most of the time.

"If some teeth are what it takes to get you to come a bit closer, I can make an exception," she promises coyly. "How does that poem go? "Come into my parlor," said the spider to the fly?"

"Ain't this is the part where I say ya've asked me in vain?" Cricket tilts her head to the side, silently praying that she's remembering the correct poem. She's book smart and witty, to a degree, but wordplay isn't her forte. That's Maggie's thing.

"That don't feel quite right, though," she admits, taking a tentative, but long stride into MacKenzie's personal bubble.

Kenzie can't move much, but she leans in slightly as Cricket nears.

"In the end you accept my invitation anyway." Kenzie puts on a show, lowering her voice to soft murmur and keeping her eyes hooded. This close, she can smell Cricket's perfume. "Mind if we skip the hand kissing, Cricket? It's a little too twee for the likes of me."
