MISTLETOE: DAY 1

It's chaos at Gooseberry Alternative High School. Again.

Marilyn Fairchild and Penelope Vargas are collaborating on making a cheeky magically altered version of mistletoe, which is in the Charms classroom for safe keeping. The intent is for use in party games, but the current version is way too enthusiastic. All’s going well until a white crow flies in through an open window. Before Marilyn or Penelope can do anything about it, the beautiful bird has snatched their specimen in its beak and is flying back out the window. That’s weeks of work!!!

By the end of the day, mistletoe has sprouted all over the Lodge. Anyone who is unlucky enough to walk underneath a sprig of it is trapped in place with their feet rooted to the ground. This is inconvenient enough, but the only way to free a trapped student is with a kiss.

HOW THIS WORKS

Mistletoe is growing like vines throughout the lodge, hanging from the ceiling, apparently attempting to position itself to "trap" students.

By noon, it's widespread enough that it's become a serious inconvenience. Classes are not cancelled, but under the circumstances, students are forgiven for tardiness.

If your character walks under a sprig of mistletoe, their feet are rooted to the spot.

The only thing that will free them is a kiss. Cheek kisses or a kiss to the back of the hand are sufficient. So is a kiss on the lips, but chances are, most people will opt for something more chaste.

Mr. Hightower is busy all day, and cancels Herbology until he can get a handle on this. The mistletoe is proving to be highly resistant to being cut, hexed, set on fire, or exposed to magical weed killer. (Also, please don't set things on fire in the lodge???)

The lodge is not as large as Hogwarts castle, but it's still spacious with plenty of corridors to get lost in if you want to get your character stranded.

Post your character to a location below if they got stuck. If you're waiting for someone in particular, indicate who's going to free your character in the subject line. Otherwise, comments are considered open for a random rescuer.

» Atrium: The busy sitting area of the Lodge. There's lots of mistletoe, but just as many people to save you.

» Cafeteria: Bustling at mealtimes, quiet for the rest of the day.

» First Floor Halls & Balconies: Winding corridors with windows that look out into the woods.

» Second Floor Halls & Balconies: Long hallways, some of which overlook the atrium and the students below.

» Third Floor Halls & Balconies: These balconies have a stunning view of the lake and surrounding forests. They are also the least populated.

» Classrooms: Some are in use, some are empty.

» Library: Is nowhere sacred?! Ms. Petrichor is incensed at the mistletoe in her library. Every time she finds a new sprig, she marks the floor with an angry X.

	Cricket spends a lot of time in the lodge today, because this is fun and it's cold out anyway, so why leave? She's enjoying getting to play the hero, but she's not exactly being ultra cautious herself. Open to multiple people, she'll get stuck a few times throughout the day. The Smooch Squad zeroes in to Cricket a couple hours after Cameron has already freed her. Casey doesn't actually realize she's stuck — he just wants to share his latest victory with her.

After dancing up to Cricket, he gives her grin that looks weirdly similar to a VERY proud puppy dropping a dead squirrel into its owner's lap. "Hey, Quayle! Merrill gave me points for sexism!" The victory element of his dance becomes more spirited before he stops to correct himself, "For pointing out a consent problem in a stupid song. And shit." Victorious dancing resumes.

	A small crease forms between her brows at first, but quickly disappears as her eyes go wide and she beams with pride. "Aw, Casey, that's amazin'!" She tries to jump up as she claps, but her feet are glued to the ground and she simply jerks in place. She wobbles slightly as her knees buckle and reaches out for his shoulder to steady herself. 	Casey thinks that this is the FUNNIEST SHIT EVER and laughs to himself for a while before he offers to help. He'll offer eventually, I promise. When he catches his breath he asks, "You finally seen the light and wanna make out, or should I just smooch this?" and taps the hand on his shoulder. "I've got good reference letters and everything." Luckily for him, Cricket thinks this whole affair is funny, too. She feigns distress by dropping her jaw and clapping a hand over her mouth, but the crinkles at the corners of her eyes make it obvious that she laughing against her palm. Once they both compose themselves, she considers her offer and scrunches up her nose thoughtfully. "How 'bout ya give me a resume and if the background check comes up clean, maybe we can schedule an interview at the Grotto this weekend?"

"A'rght..." Casey's eyes narrow. Is she...? Nah. (He's not too good at subtext, or with other people's sarcasm.) "YEAH, alright!" He regains his Regular Casey Composure and turns his head to kiss the hand on his shoulder, and it would be all gentlemanly-like if he weren't both leaving his lips there for three agonizing seconds too long or waggling his eyes at Cricket the entire time. When he releases her, he pushes her lightly on the shoulder with a finger to see if she moves. Yeah! Another point for the Smooch Squad! He dances off backwards and leaves Cricket with an exaggerated wink~

Lach laughed a bit, putting his own hand to his other cheek to confirm. "I guess I am blushing a bit. Maybe it's the cold and the general warm feelings around. I rather like it."

He liked the feeling of her cool hand on his warm face, and tried as he might to not feel a WEE BIT of a tinge about the small interaction, he definitely does. He can hardly help it.

"I'm glad it's been people being sweet. Seems like most people have been very kind about it all."
