At my last school, things totally wound down before the holidays and the last couple of weeks, there was barely any point being there.

Here, though? Yeah, definitely different.

Bae
Hey lady. Can I ask you something?

Always, baby girl. What's happening?

Reassurance that I'm not totally insane. Because there's a sophomore girls' ward that's stressing me the fuck out right now because why the hell do I need a list of boys I want to ask me to the dance? All boys are good in different ways, surely?

I mean, I already wrote myself down for matchmaking, because I'd like I date, but why are people worrying so much?

Good lord, I'm hearing a lot of talk about this infamous sophomore girls' ward, actually. If you've got a list of boys you want to go to the dance with, why not ask them yourself? And why even make a list in the first place? So strange.

It's the Winter Formal, I think. It's a bit more serious than the other dances, like for real couples. But people are honestly stressing themselves out for no reason. I think part of it is an ego thing. Like if no one asks you to the dance, it's because you're unattractive, not because the guys are just as shy or didn't think having a date was as big a deal.

Oh dear god. It's not like you gotta marry the guy you go to Formal with. Don't have fun with your date? Move on, someone else better is around the corner. I trust you way more than some of the girls in my grade, I swear to god.

Exactly. Everyone always takes these things waaaaaay too seriously. Like, I hope you don't think that whoever I end up matching you with is your future husband or whatever. Just someone I think you'd have an interesting time with for the night. One night's nothing.

I'm actually really worried about the sophomore girls. No dance is worth all this meltdown.

I feel like yelling that mathematical odds are that maybe, like, one couple from this whole school will go the distance. Having a fun time for one night is way more important than all the other stress. I know you got me, girl.

Ugh, truth. I know we're teenagers and hormonal and all, but seriously!

You probably should. On the one hand, some of these girls don't know any better. Society tells them all about how dates are so important and how men should take the lead in a romance. But, on the other hand, they won't learn if no one tells them how silly that way of thinking is. Haha, always here for you, Jo ♥

Can we talk about what you're gonna wear, though? You got a dress in mind or can I dress you up all nice myself?

Don't get me wrong, I mean, I'm not the expert in asking out boys. I just don't see the point in worrying over it. I'll see if Essie says anything back to me and go from there, I reckon.

Nothing in mind yet. I am always open to suggestions!

Essie, Diego's stepsister Essie? Is she the one who caused all this sophomore girls' ward-related mess?

Have you considered blue or white? I think you'd look an absolute vision in either color.

It was her post, yeah. Me and Hobbs were talking about the importance of being badass and having fun with your friends, but she hasn't said anything yet.

Hmm. I think blue might be good, given my Halloween costume was mostly white.

She's always seemed a bit high-strung to me, so I can't say as though I'm surprised. Lovely girl, though. I wish you the best of luck getting through to her and to all the rest of them working themselves into an aneurysm over something so simple.

I am gonna put an order in for some blue dresses and then you can tell me if you like any of 'em. If you need someone to do your makeup, too, I'd be happy to assist.

It's not like this one can be pinned on Azurcrest because most of them are being mellow enough.

You are such a darling, Bailey Hartman. ❤️❤️

Azucrest is my favorite house of the week, actually, after the whole sledding thing. So I'm glad they're not the source of the issues here.

Haha, mostly to my friends. You know how fond I am of you, Joanna May.

That was SUCH a mess. One of those days where being a prefect really goddamn sucks.

Right back atcha, and not just because I'd probably look a mess without your help.

Busy is good, we'd probably get into more mischief if we weren't so busy, so that's one positive.

I like always having something to do.

Can you blame them? You can see how we are when we DO have a lot of work to do!

I am looking forward to seeing my parents and the campstead and the hogs! Harriet is quite nice and very cuddly, but something about the big ladies that makes me happy. Oh, and the cows and chickens. The chickens haven't as much personality really, but the cows are very cuddly and nice. And we have so many interesting people who rent the caravans over Christmas, it's always different every year, except we always have a bonfire and roast marshmallows and chestnuts and other nice things. It's very lovely.

Hey, I never said I was blaming. Just musing over here.

Big ladies! Oh man, that made me laugh. There's me holed up in New York trying not to murder either of my siblings and waiting for snow to turn to slush the whole break.

They're hogs, but they are still ladies, so I tend to try and think of them that way. Pigs are very intelligent, if you didn't know. They miss me when I'm gone, that's what my parents say. Is New York very nice? Berkshire is lovely, but we're far from any city where the campstead is. Maybe Reading is closest. I rather like living far away though, makes it easy to see all the stars and such.

I'm sure you'll have a lovely time though!

I'm sure they appreciate your gentlemanly manners.

New York is my heritage, man. It's one of those places where there are times when I hate it but woe betide anyone who doesn't know the place crapping all over it.

They liked being complimented, it's very true. And spoken to politely. They have a strong will, but if you reason with them, they usually will comply with your requests. Being demanding is never the way to go.

I could understand the sentiment. And my understanding is that Christmas in New York is quite a sight to behold.

In the unlikely event I ever have to hang out with pigs, I'll bear that in mind.

Damn right. It's the place to be for a Christmas with some pizzazz.
