Hey all! So, yesterday Ali included a delightful description of Magdalen's portion of the dorm with her character introduction and that got me thinking about how other characters might have decorated their space. So, if anyone else is similarly curious and has time to kill...

DORM: List your character's dorm. For example, Ebonhide Senior Boys.
ROOMMATES: List your character's current roomies.
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: List notable decorations and belongings that your character keeps in their dorm. Obviously, you don't need to list off every sock in the drawer or every book they own or anything like that. Just the important stuff. If desired, include reference images!
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Is your character neat or messy or somewhere in between? What's their space like?
ANYTHING ELSE?: Anything else you want to say about the character's part of the dorm? Are they protective of their space? Are there any spells at play? Does their part of the room always smell like roses? Put it here!

DORM: Ebonhide Senior Girls
ROOMMATES: Magdalen Gillis, Irene Lovelace, Cressida Quayle, Willhelmina Tran
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: I imagine that Dahlia's is really practical, so she probably has a duvet on her bed and maybe just the one blanket. I imagine her duvet covers have prints like galaxy prints and the like (which she sometimes tries to use magic on so they'll move), and her sheets tend to be plain but in bold colours like yellow. The wall by her bed probably has glow-in-the-dark stars (if they're allowed) or some similar decoration.

She has some Funko Pops on her desk, which she just shrugs off when people ask her about them. She'd probably have some Quidditch memorabilia around, but I haven't thought what they are yet. :P Something like a little poster for her favourite all-women's team or something.

ORGANIZATION & STYLE: It's definitely somewhere in-between. Her bed is really neat, since she mostly just uses it at bedtime and leaves as soon as she wakes up. Her desk is another matter; it's more of a structured chaos of papers, books, etc. if she's been studying. They get at least one bookshelf, right? Her bookshelf is probably neat, but the books aren't alphabetically arranged or anything.

ANYTHING ELSE?: Dahlia isn't super protective of her space; as long as you're not stealing or damaging things, it's fine if you cross into it to talk to her or borrow something or whatever. She likes to experiment with spells, so I imagine that besides the aforementioned duvet cover spell, she'd probably do spell like trying to make the wall decorations move or try to make it smell like unexpected stuff like popcorn.

I expect that Magdalen's DIY projects, if they tend to spread into the other girls' part of the room, would probably have reached Dahlia's space a bit. She's not really into that style, but she'd probably allow a couple of things (while dramatically complaining) because she secretly thinks Magdalen's enthusiasm is adorable.

DORM: Coppertale Junior Girls
ROOMMATES: Harriet, Saira, Olivia, & Coralee.
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: Nothing notable enough to particularly stand out against the mess aside from her rat's cage.
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Rox's space looks like a hurricane hit it even after she insists she's cleaned it. This has a lot to do with the fact that she's never really learned to clean or pick up after herself - there were maids at home and her mom/various entities kept her space somewhat orderly when she was on location for the soap opera. She doesn't make her bed so much as she just drapes the comforter over the edge to conceal all the crap she shoves under it.
ANYTHING ELSE?: She chose the bunk at the far end of the room because she perceives the chairs as a sort of extra barrier (and also because she likes to drape the uniform she plans to wear the next day over the back of a chair because then they're slightly less wrinkly than they'd be if she just threw them on the floor). Her things have a tendency to encroach on the general living space if no one's prompted her to reign it in for a while. She'll let the situation spiral out of control without a second thought for as long as it takes for someone to speak up. It definitely doesn't smell like roses. It smells a lot more like sweaty quidditch clothes she shoved under the bed and forgot about. She tends to leave her window cracked to air it out some and to prolong the time before her roomies complain.

DORM: Azurcrest Senior Boys
ROOMMATES: Diego Morales, Levi Kramer, two others
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: A bulletin board with a small calendar, recipes, to-do lists, and photos of his friends and family (mother, father, and triplet sisters) pinned to it. A beeswax candle. Little whittled figurines, mostly birds, lined up on the window sill. A rotating selection of books from the library. A nondescript journal (full of stories and poems written in a very neat hand). A crocheted blanket (made by one of his sisters) folded on the end of the bed, which is otherwise dressed in the standard Azurcest colors.
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Cecil's section of the dorm is simple, tidy, and functional. While there isn't a specific home for each and every item, he doesn't leave things scattered around and he makes his bed every morning. Occasionally, usually around exam time, his desk becomes cluttered with books and notes, but this is relatively rare and embarrasses him once the hectic time has passed.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Cecil isn't very private when it comes to his space and willingly lets people borrow his books, blanket, and just about anything else without needing to ask. The sole exception to this is his journal, which he keeps locked with a charm and tucked away in a desk drawer. The candle on his desk, when lit, has a subtley sweet smell that can quickly fill up the whole room.

DORM: Azurcrest Senior Girls
ROOMMATES: Henrietta, Drusilla, Quinn, Mercedes.

DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: A surprising amount of pink and sparkle set against a back-drop of general theatrical&colorful excess (her wardrobe is Too Big and often on display in some form). Laurel also has several blankets and extra extra pillows. There's the obligatory corkboard with pictures, little notes, old show playbills, random papers with nostalgia factor, etc. Little jewelry trees with hella earrings, necklaces. Scarves draped everywhere. It's somewhat obnoxious.

ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Laurel knows where everything is at all times, and there's a definite organizational system at play, but there's so much stuff that it reads very messy at first glance. Her desk is probably the most tidy of her spaces, as it's usually covered in stuff for her senior project -- so costume pieces, related books, crude diagrams.

ANYTHING ELSE?: Laurel doesn't care if people enter her space, touch things, even borrow them. A lot of her things do have various charm work applied, but nothing related to security. There have been moments in previous years where something went awry or uncalibrated itself and there were sparkles or colors or extra frills where there shouldn't have been, such as the wall paper or floor. :x Possibly other students' things.

I LOVE THIS! I was actually going to include pics of what Sofia's part of the dorm looks like in her app and then I forgot, so.

DORM: Azurcrest Jr. Girls
ROOMMATES: Addy, Katya, Riley, and Mackenzie
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: So! Sofia's area is in the middle of two other beds and looks something like this, only a scaled-down version that's an appropriate size for the dorm, and under her bed her desk area looks like this, with a few terrariums hanging by her window. She also has a few shelves hung up and covered with books/knickknacks/beauty products. For her clothes she has a modified wardrobe trunk that holds twice as many clothes/shoes than it originally did. There are a few cat beds around her area and one near the fireplace, and don't worry guys, she's made sure that the litter box is out of sight and never smells. She also has a collection of stash jars (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) that have been charmed to look empty.
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Sofia is a mess, she hates cleaning and tends to just toss things around. She has a general idea of where everything is but probably couldn't tell you with any certainty. Her sense of style is eclectic and all over the place, there's a lot of mixing of patterns/textures/colors and no real theme.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Sofia has silencing charms put up around her area, usually her side will smell like lavender or weed, but she only smokes the good stuff so it's actually a pleasant smell. Both of her windows are usually open so that Boba can go outside, but also so that the smoke will go out when she's smoking in her bunk.

Also! I think the girls should have a standard looking ice chest for snacks/drinks/things they can't keep in a public space. Half could be for cold things and half for warm stuff and each side could have the appropriate cooling/heating charms and maybe even an extension charm?

DORM: Ribbonfin Senior Girls
ROOMMATES: Anuhea, Mai, Tabitha, Ivy.

DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: Zoey's aesthetic is... well, kinda witchy. She has lots of candles, beads, stacks of old books, charts covered in info related to moon cycles, crystals, different potions ingredients, etc. Speaking of potions ingredients -- there's usually a few jars full of weird things in her area, or herbs/other plants left to dry. Lots of band posters (she'll buy anything as long as it has interesting art on it). Her bass is usually on display in here somewhere too, and a teeny little corner that serves as a kind of Quidditch/Quodpot shrine (team posters, schedule, past player pictures, etc).

ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Zoey's pretty super neat and efficient. Things have their places, it all gets cleaned often enough, and the bed is made. Any arts materials or stationery are arranged by color and type at her desk, which probably has labels on the drawers ffs. She's the type to have a giant calendar with all of her obligations written out weeks in advance. .-.

ANYTHING ELSE?: Zoey is fairly laid back with her things. She's the roommate who probably has random medicine you might need, or other little bits and bobs, and she doesn't mind sharing. There are some security charms on a few of her notebooks (especially related to potions things), though, as well as on the trunk where she keeps more personal belongings.

Z does burn incense or light candles sometimes, which can get kind of overwhelming, but she tries to spell the scent away/keep it confined. Same with any noise from singing to herself or plucking at the bass occasionally. :u

DORM: Coppertale Senior Girls
ROOMMATES: Faye, Tess and Iris
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: Basically, Trixie's area is a mash between a Whole Foods and a Jamba Juice. There are buckets of fruit sitting around with cooling charms on them as well as a few gallons of soy milk and other assorted juices. A small planter of wheatgrass and other healthy like herbs. A far too full crate of coffee mugs of various designs though her favorite is a fox face mug. There are also a few things hooked up to battery packs shoved on top of her desk including a smoothie maker, a kettle and a homemade solar powered battery hook up for her phone/tablet. Never know when you might need to do something electronic. There is also a toolbox full of tiny screwdrivers and wires with computer chips sticking out of it.

There are also a few little statues of elves and dragons from her father and a selection of books about magical creatures that are not part of the classes she is in. Outside of that, which is fairly organized, her clothing is scattered around the rest of the space causing a bit of 'organized' chaos in her small tiny area as well as maybe a bit onto the couch area next to her bed.
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Oops. I rambled too much up there about that but Trixie is literally a geek explosion with wires and batteries and fruit in the rest of the space.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Her area of the dorm is loud and fruit/coffee smelling depending on the time of day.. There are certainly no explosions or anything from there and even if it looks like each battery pack is NOT safe, it really is. It is also quite bright during the day due to her need for all of the sunlight for power. Also she does yell "USE THE SCOOPS NOT YOUR HANDS" if someone wants to dig into her buckets of Trixie edible bits of food. She shares happily.

ROOMMATES: Sofia, Riley, Katya, Mackenzie
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: Addy's corner is full of the most bright stuff she could find, which she thinks is pretty necessary in the middle of the winter, here! Her comforter is the most obnoxious shade of orange possible, and her sheets probably have galaxy print, like everything good. She absolutely has glow in the dark stars if allowed, only she will charm them to make them colored. She has tiny lights draped around too, but keeps them off when people are sleeping! She has a bulletin board that is absolutely jam-packed with pictures of her friends, her family, people she likes, but also weird magazine clippings, writings, inside jokes and pictures, etc. She updates it once in a while, but some of the stuff has been there since Ilvermorny first year. Addy also keeps a vase of flowers on her desk, as often as she can remember to replace them/ charm them to stay fresh longer. (Fresh flowers making a house a home is like, the one lesson she took from her mama.)
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Soooo messy except when she remembers to clean? She drapes her clothes over all available surfaces, but she'll try to put it in places with shut doors, like her drawers. It's mostly her clothes; they never seem to have a home.
ANYTHING ELSE?: She uses silencing charms SOMEtimes, but other times forgets so the whole world can tell whether or not she charged her ipod, since she doesn't like sitting in silence when she's there. She's very generous with her things, but ask if you're borrowing hygiene items, because it might be disguised Emergency Vodka, and you don't want to use that in your shower.

DORM: Azurcrest Junior Girls
ROOMMATES: Addy, Mackenzie, Riley and Sofia
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: Pretty much black. Katya has a majority of things in black around her space but charmed stars flickering around it all. While not exactly as galaxy printed as Addy's it totally is in the same idea but once the lights go out, Katya wraps up her bed to keep out the starlight from everyone else. Each star is placed exactly where it would be if someone stepped outside with the exception that they are made for the sky above her home in Russia on her birthday. Down to the shooting meteor shower flying across the ceiling. There is always an iPod ready to play something, usually some horrible screamy punk music. On the floor in front of her desk there is an old bronze telescope with 'K.I." engraved on it, it was her father's. Pretty much the only thing she might get a little nervous about anyone touching. There is also a small Russian flag stuck to the wall and a few photos of Alaska. A large old hatbox full of vintage and brand new jewelry sits on her desk overflowing with various gems and other sparkly things. It's pretty much a grab bag of crap that she takes forever to look for something in. She knows she needs to organize it but it just never happens. Things in there are also up for grabs by her roommates as well as a trunk full of make up and hair products. Katya figures she has to look good all the time.
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Everything is very organized to the point where she knows where everything is, even if it's lost forever on a high shelf. Most of her things are within arms reach simply because she is pretty small and needs to reach stuff eventually. Her books are a tad messy tending to fall all over the ground. Basically she just keeps her stuff where she can find it. It isn't that she is that crazy about order she just likes to know where things are. There is also a small piece of luggage tucked under her desk containing a few items of clothing and a totally legal passport and various other bits of identification shoved into it, just in case.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Most of her things are up for grabs except her telescope and Katya really doesn't give two craps about things going missing. She LOOKS like she is super worried about her stuff getting moved around and misplaced but really if something isn't in her eyesight for a few days, she just owls home for more of it.

Since we're on the subject of dorms, we did write some general rules on what's acceptable for decorating your cabin! If you're not sure if something your character has is OK, feel free to ask us here.

FYI, for characters keeping food or snacks in their cabin: this is officially against school rules, but so long as a) your prefect is not a hardass and b) you're keeping everything sealed (to keep the wildlife from getting at it), the staff will turn a blind eye. Also be warned that there is a planned plot with repercussions for anyone keeping food in their cabin. (But don't worry, no one will die. 😉)

DORM: Ribbonfin Sophomore boys, of which Calvin is the only one. :'( (.... FOR NOW)
ROOMMATES: Ramon, Milo, Cole and Luis!
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: NOT MUCH. Calvin doesn't have that much money to throw around, and therefore his little section of the room is pretty utilitarian. He has photos of him and his family, with all four of his brothers, but notably none of him with friends from Hogwarts. There's one brother who looks about sixteen who features more heavily than the others. His desk is stacked high with books and papers and pens, but only when Calvin is in the room. Because...
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Calvin locks down his belongings when he's not there. Everything is put away, and all of his drawers and his trunk are sealed with nasty hexes. Calvin is obviously anticipating that his space and his things are going to be messed with. This comes from a childhood with four mean brothers who pushed him around or otherwise hassled him, and a roommate "friend" who treated him with equal respect. Not to mention he's afraid certain people might try breaking into his cabin, so he remains eternally on the defense. Calvin's protective of his space, and dislikes people getting into his things. When he's not present, his area looks practically unlived in.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Calvin gets m a d if anyone touches his stuff without his permission. The only people he currently trusts enough to not be seriously irritated are probably Regan, Ravi, Ursula and Frankie.

DORM: Coppertail Senior Boys.
ROOMMATES: Wesley Carpenter, Ty Hawkeswood, Rafael Ramirez, Robin Youngblood
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: Chris doesn't own a lot, so he doesn't usually take a lot. He literally spends half the year living out of the duffel bag he brings from home. But he does have a cork board stuck to the wall. Since the end of Sophomore year, he began to use this board to plot out his senior project. Now that he's in his senior year, the board is overcrowded with papers and post-it notes and diagrams that look super messy and cluttered but also make total sense to him. He also has a stash of chocolate under his bed.
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Probably somewhere in between. He didn't live with maids, and he grew up with a single mother, so he knows damn well how to pick up after himself, which he's prone to doing at least on a weekly basis without prompting. But he's also a teenaged boy, so he's not prone to obsessively tidying up or making his bed every morning. He does generally have a stack of books on his desk, but his desk and that cork board are usually the messiest parts of his space. There's no moldy food or stinky gym socks.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Uh ... he's not protective of his space (I mean, it's a room of five guys, it's hard to get that protective). He hasn't hexed anything. He's been living with the same dudes for four years, so he's banking on them knowing that he'll punch them in the face if they actually try to fuck with anything. Tho - Chris did buy one of those little singing sun flower pot "toys" that he has perched on a table in the middle of the room and did hex that. He has bespelled that to say 'fuck you' every time anybody walks past it. That is his gift to this dorm. Enjoy it.

DORM: Azurcrest Sophomore Girls
ROOMMATES: Frances Noble (also Estella Morales-Tran, jade Otterwell, Carmen Reyes)
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: Frankie and Regan have painted most of the walls of their cabin with an ever-evolving rotation of...well, whatever they feel like drawing at any given time. Sorry, roommates; the other girls' bed areas are left alone, but Regan's bed and the unclaimed walls are an art gallery, basically.
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Regan is not a particularly neat person. There are things eveywhere around her bed and desk but she mostly confines it to her own area. Mostly.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Regan is pretty open and easy-going, so she doesn't care if people touch or borrow her things as long as they give them back and don't break anything. Sit on her bed, wear her clothing, whatever.

ROOMMATES: Philippa Nightingale. Also Bianca Dubois, Martina Fanning, and Keisha Sargent.
DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: Gabi has a mermaid theme going on, lots of turquoise and light blue and she owns this blanket.
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Gabi is a considerate roommate so she keeps all of her things in her own space and makes sure to keep that space looking neat.
ANYTHING ELSE?: Rivers are great, but Gabi misses living by the ocean, so she sometimes charms her area to have wave sounds. She's really sorry if that distracts anyone and she will stop it immediately if asked but she always eventually does it again ;-;

DECORATIONS & BELONGINGS: He's got some music books and instruments and things on his desk and in that general area. Otherwise, nah.
ORGANIZATION & STYLE: Isaiah's area is neat as a pin and practically without personality. He does have a curtain set up around the desk area under his bed, because he likes to hide, okay?
ANYTHING ELSE?: Don't touch his stuff, guys. Just please don't. He won't say anything but he'll be upset and kind of frown at you for days.
