IT'S ALI AGAIN with my second character, Magdalen Gillis. She's an Ebonhide Senior and the Head Girl, so p much the opposite of Levi.

bio: the tl;dr edition

Her mother is a Sacred 28 Pureblood, her father is a half-blood from and old Wizarding family, and her parents lived in Scotland before immigrating to Canada in 1992 once it was rumored that Voldemort was making a return. Maggie was born and raised in Lancaster, Ontario and her mother tried so, so, so hard to fit into the American Pureblood society but the culture was just too different for them to blend seamlessly.

Her mother is the Senior Undersecretary to Canada's Minister of Magic; basically second-in-command. She's been working her way up the Ministry ladder for decades and has her eye set on becoming Minister of Magic; first it was the British MoM but now she's set her sights on Canada. She's more politically conservative, by Wizarding standards, and some people may find her goal of becoming Minister controversial because she has only been a Canadian citizen for less than a decade and a lot of her ideals reflect the British Ministry's.

Maggie went to Ilvermorny prior to Gooseberry and was sorted into Horned Serpent. She began attending Gooseberry her Freshman year and was made Prefect her Sophomore year. At the end of her Junior year, it was widely known that she became incredibly (violently, disgustingly) ill right before exams and ended up missing them. She was allowed to make up her exams after the kids had left for summer break, which some may see as an unfair advantage since she had days to study in solitude.

Maggie's all about dat privileged life and characters are free to make assumptions (or not!) about all the nice things and advantages that have just happened to fall into her lap. She'll argue that she's earned what she has through hard work and MAYBE THAT'S MOSTLY TRUE because she did work her ass off to earn her title of Head Girl. However a prime example of unfair favoritism was last year when she dated the Head Girl, she was scheduled prime Prefect patrol slots that happened to coincide with the HG's. Their excuse was that they worked well together (and, fairly, they did) and Maggie brushed off any blame with "I don't make the patrol schedules."

She's the Mom Friend of Ebonhide and wants to take care of her babies. She's also into DIY and Pinterest culture (whatever the Wizarding equiv of Pinterest is) and so her portion of the dorm is preppy and full of cute, trendy, and overused themes of 2013. She has at least one throw pillow that says "Dream", framed inspirational quotes including one that says "Live Laugh Love", a mini terrarium (or several), decorated DIY mason jars, idea boards, photo boards with ~ALL HER EBONHIDE SISTERS~ on it, and a chalkboard calendar that has every single stupid event listed with commentary like "FUN!! ♥" scribbled into the corner.

Also, she keeps track of everyone's birthdays. Let me know if it's fine for her to know your character's birthday, because she will have written it down and she will remember.

wanted lines

Purebloods or kids from wealthy families from Canada / Northern US that might've known her growing up?
People from Ilvermorny that she knew! Maybe a fellow Senior that she was good friends with, who inspired her to step out of her comfort zone and apply for Gooseberry because that's where they were going?
Either an ex-girlfriend from her Freshman or Sophomore year OR a girl she turned down in favor of dating the Head Girl last year. The latter could also lead to rumors of her being a sycophant (like her mother, lbr.)
PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST AS HYPED ABOUT DIY CRAFTS AND BONDING TIME AS SHE IS. Alternatively, people who are just like "Magdalen, no, Magdalen, pls. I'm still finding glitter from last month's crafts project. Magdalen, stahp."

OH HEY THERE HEAD GIRL. :) So, while Magdalen and Cecil don't have a ton in common when it comes to activities and the electives and the like, it seems like they could get along fairly well based on having similar philosophies and demeanors? Plus the shared responsibilities? Cecil will be friendly toward her regardless and I imagine he gives her the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the supposed favoritism last year (even if he shouldn't). Also thinks her DIY projects are awesome; teach him your ways!

Casper's an Ebonhide and, while not quite a problem child for her, he's an unenthusiastic Prefect and grump that doesn't particularly want to be taken care of. Also he refuses to craft with her. Just no. He does, however, respect her aspiration to become an Auror (since he wants to as well), so that could at least give them some common ground and he might begrudgingly come to her with questions about DADA or Occlumency from time to time.

Also, your description of her part of the dorm makes me want a dorm meme! XD

IIIIIIIII think Maggie and Cecil will get along FLAWLESSLY. She'd adore him sososo much and prob calls him CeCe. (My characters realllly like nicknames, I CAN'T HELP IT. They also like puns, so expect more bee/honey puns.)

Maggie probably doesn't mindddd Casper's surliness but she'll definitely playfully tease him about it. She probably tries to fix his cravat every time she catches him with it untied. She will MORE THAN HAPPILY discuss DADA and Occlumency with him and she'll help him the best she can, but if the word "tutoring" is ever mentioned she'll start to sweat nervously. But HELPING is ~totally different~

oh god yes dorm meme. I think Levi's is just like... MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS CRAMMED UNDER HIS LOFT, worn clothes spilling out onto the love seat next to his bed, candy bar wrappers hidden in the folds of his bed sheets. Nothing's really organized, it's just all haphazardly filling his space. The opposite of Maggie.

LOVE IT. I can't help thinking that these two are the fluffiest Head Boy and Head Girl this school has ever seen; all problems shall be resolved with baking, crafts, and good vibes! But that all sounds good for me~ And he's okay with Cece, though the honeybee/honey puns continue to make him blush.

Haha! Oh Maggie. Casper will take the teasing (and cravat fixing) with a fair amount of grumbling and eye rolling, but probably won't get too worked up unless she brings up the forbidden topics. And he'll try not to ask her too often, but she's a year ahead of him and every now and then he might. Never anything structured enough to be tutoring, luckily!

...Levi, Cecil wants to clean your part of the room. Every. Single. Day. XD Think it's kosher to put a meme up or is that a modly duty? I can get something together for tomorrow maybe.

They are definitely the fluffiest. Maggie can't bake but she can definitely craft. I can see them having some sort of reward system for good behavior besides awarding house points. Like... Small monthly (or semester) awards for the boy and girl with the most positive attitude, the most helpful, the most hard working, etc.

yeeee! let's go with old money connections for them! the gillises are all the way in ontario, but WHAT IS DISTANCE TO WIZARDS? and seattle is close to BC and... that's canada... and... WHATEVER, WE'LL MAKE IT WORK. maggie wouldn't mind the call-out as long as it wasn't done in an aggressive way? fairly, the only thing that was 100% undeniable favoritism was her prefect patrol schedule lining up with her girlfriend's last year. she worked hard to earn everything else in school, but the circumstances look super duper sketch af and all the privileges she was already born with sort of undermine the achievements she earned herself. (like, UGH, you're already rich, why did you get offered a full academic scholarship while other kids can't afford tuition?)

cannnn zoey be her potions partner? maggie would want to sit as close to her as possible because she's the potions prodigy and maggie's own potion skills are not where she'd like them to be. she'd find her cute in a weird 'i don't understand your style but it works for you' way. maggie's not really in tune with muggle culture so she doesn't understand that ironic shirts are the thing right now, so she'd probably find them WAY MORE HILARIOUS than they should be. especially if it has a pun on it.

Tabitha is basically from a very similar background? Pureblood, wealthy, went to Ilvermorny (different house though), Senior, dad with political ambitions given his position at MACUSA. I need to figure out exactly what he does, lol.

Dominic is a prefect, so there's that. He would def side-eye the whole thing about her getting HG after dating a HG, but he's subtle so wouldn't mention it to her. He's fairly privileged, as his dad is a business owner and owns the chain of inns across Canadian provinces that act, Leaky-style, as entrances to magical only areas of the capitals. So there MAY be a connection there?

maybe tabby and Maggie's parents know each other? they're in different countries' MoMs but i imagine there might be some overlap and schmoozing within political circles. esp since NY and Ottawa are pretty close by Wizard standards. Maggie's dad works for International Cooperation so the US technically counts.

i am all for some side-eyeing. their families might know each other from fancy rich people fundraiser parties if his family is the type to attend?

She and Dahlia are SO DIFFERENT but I think they'd get along -- like I said in another post, Dahlia probably appreciates Maagdalen's intentions and her Mom Friend status, even though she may put on a show of Magdalen pls stahp.

Sadly, I don't think Dahlia can fill any of the wanted lines :( Dahlia isn't a pureblood and didn't go to Ilvermorny. Also, while I figure out my characters' orientations as I go, Dahlia has only dated guys so far and I don't think she'd ever ask out a cabin mate (because of the awkward potential). I guess she could be the "I'm still finding glitter..." person, but it's not going to be in a mean or especially angry way, which sounds like it's what you're asking about?

Anyway, they're cabin mates and it's fine for Magdalen to know Dahlia's birthday. Alsoooo, if you want a character who could have tried to take care of Magdalen when she was sick, Dahlia could have done that -- things like bringing her tea and checking her fever and so on.

nah, the glitter thing doesn't have to be angry at all! i meant for more of a playful banter sort of thing. so that would be perfect! and she totally could've taken care of her while she was sick, i didn't even think to include that! she was veryveryveryvery appreciative because she was in really bad shape. dahlia would've returned to a nice little gift basket on her bed when she came back to school.

she's fabulous! she and kurt don't overlap in academics and he was a different house for ilvermorny. if he were around the DIY stuff and pulled in he would be too polite to say no, but the chances for it happening don't seem terribly high.

THE BLUEBLOODS, THOUGH, I CAN HELP YOU WITH THAT. kurt's dad is a senior dude in MACUSA muggle relations, and his mom is from a certified country club old money pureblood american wizarding family (and other qualifiers as well!). i made up three willows, which is a magically-concealed community in CT. her side of the family is all about the high-society stuff and 100% fancy country club members. kurt has been dragged along to them his whole life, and especially in the last couple of years since his parents divorced (and ESPECIALLY by his grandparents who have been trying to turn him into a fancy person. it will never work.)

they can know each other from this! kurt would be an attempted wallflower at all events but really just massively uncomfortable. he'd be grateful for a friendly gooseberry face at those things.

also, i drive past lancaster at least 8 times a year and have never noticed it. wizard village confirmed.

also also, i've been trying to brainstorm what wizard country club would be like and have been hitting walls. i'll probably make a post today asking if anybody has ideas!

YES, EXCELLENT, BLUE BLOODS AND GOVERNMENT YESYESYES. she should definitely know kurt from all of that. i just imagined tiny preteens in fancy dress, with maggie already towering over him.

weeee should brainstorm country clubs, yes! idk how much input i have since both my characters are on the outskirts of that society, but in very different ways. for maggie, i headcanoned that the purebloods are a pretty close knit community and it's possible to mingle with them if you have enough money and influence, but you'll never be one of them.

YAAAAAAY MAGDALEN. She can know all of my characters' birthdays~

Diego... wants Magdalen to like him. He really does. I suspect she does not. Diego is Mina's stepbrother, of course, and from what I've gathered, most of the senior Ebonhide girls are a little skeptical of him which is fantastic. Diego therefore wants them to like him SO BADLY. He won't flirt with Maggie, though, since she's an out lesbian and I'm guessing that unlike Riley, she won't initiate silly joke flirting. Diego is also close friends with Cecil, who he adores!

Reid and Maggie may not interact much, but he respects and likes his head boy and girl. He listens to what she says, and awkwardly tells her that her crafts are good. He might be a liiiiiittle wary of where privilege got her, but Reid doesn't always notice when that's going on.

Calvin is difficult and whiny but I can't see him being too hard on Magdalen. IF YOU WANT CALVIN AS HER LOVING DEFENDER, when she was a prefect she could have been someone he turned to last year when he was a real mess and being picked on and had no allies (... because he had scared everyone off until Regan stepped in). In which case he would be so loyal. So very loyal. Gonna verbally shank someone for saying anything about how she got Head Girl loyal. Oh! And CALVIN ALSO has a Sacred 28 pureblood mom who married a halfblood. Angelica Avery left behind her questionable family by embracing a more lower middle class lifestyle and ended up having too many sons.

diego: i think maggie did like him before the rumor of him cheating on his gfs got around. so she was probably chummy with him and found him charming, but is currently passively giving him the cold shoulder without actually confronting him about the rumor. how well-known are the details about him cheating on tabby?

reid: she probably goes Mom Mode whenever she sees reid scaling buildings and structures that he shouldn't. but she's not around the coppertale cabins enough to catch him on the roofs and probably doesn't bat an eye at it at this point anyway because at least he's not trying to climb the lodge.

calvin: omg can he please be her precious little baby she loves and protects and he does the same for her? and they are probably distantly related as cousins, too, because lmao sacred 28.

Okay so Pippa would be ALL OVER that Pinterest shit, she loves crafts and would be blithely unaware of how overused all those quotes are. Sadly her attempts at craft probably turn out more like a preschooler did them BUT IT'S NOT ABOUT THE END RESULT, IT'S ABOUT HAVING FUN~~ She respects authority figures and will look up to Magdalen! And she 100% believes that Mina tried to poison her, omg.

Henrietta could be an ex-girlfriend? She thinks Maggie is cute af and they're both tall girls, woo. Etta's not very good at maintaining romantic relationships so they probably wouldn't have dated for longer than a few months, but she usually stays on pretty good terms with her exes and keeps them as friends. Orrrrr Etta could be the girl Maggie turned down in favour of dating the HG if you like?? I don't THINK Etta would hold a grudge but obvs it would give a slightly different angle to their friendship. So. UP TO YOU.

Oh and it's fine for Magdalen to know their birthdays! :)

lfjsdf MAGGIE WILL LOVE AND APPRECIATE PIPPA'S ARTWORK, NO MATTER HOW PRESCHOOLER-ESQUE IT TURNS OUT TO BE. "great work, pippa! :^)) creative use of those rhinestones!!!! i love the color scheme!!!" so basically, pippa will be her smol child to love and protect always.

we can definitely do exes with etta and maggie! maybe they dated their sophomore year? and the attraction was there, but they probably didn't last longer than two months because they don't have too much in common. maggie's not into quidditch, or partying, and she wouldn't have wanted to go much farther than cutsey nicknames, constant hand-holding, and chaste kissing.
