The first thought that popped into Derek's head when he woke was it didn't smell like home. Nor was he sleeping in a bed. He opened his eyes and was met with a beautiful view of near tropical tree canopies. He lived in North Dakota so... this wasn't home.
His head swam and sitting up didn't help with that. Nothing smelled familiar. Nothing looked familiar. Nothing sounded familiar. The only things next to him was a tablet, easily recognizable, and a basketball sized... egg? That was the only thing his mind popped into his head. The egg was black with blue and silvered marble that ran through it.
Derek ran a hand through his hair, wiping the leaves and twigs out of the back of it as he took in his surroundings a little more. He looked over to the woods and frowned when his eyes fell on the blackened, charred, dead trees and decaying foliage. It was a near line drawn in the sand, the difference between the lush forest and the dead one. That's when he started to hear something coming from the egg sitting next to him.
Between the dead forest on one side and the egg starting to crack and shift next to him, Derek stood. Too much weird for him all at once. He left the tablet where it was, stepping back away from the egg and decaying edge of the forest. The werewolf didn't get too far before it hatched though and out flopped a puppy... or at least what Derek thought was a puppy. But puppies didn't come from eggs. Nor did they have wings...
He stopped when the black ball of fur looked at him with it's big, bright blue eyes. A tongue lolled out the side of it's mouth and it stood on wobbly legs and happily started towards Derek. Too bad the werewolf didn't trust anything that looked that damn cute and he started to back up again. But something deep inside him made him stop and crouch down as the floppy eared puppy came to lick at his outstretched hand. It was then that Derek realized that it wasn't a dog, but a wolf pup.
It was a wolf pup with wings but still a wolf. And a female wolf to boot. He felt something tug at the back of his mind that told him he'd never be alone again. He had his family. A pack. And it had to do with this tiny, winged wolf pup. He let his hands run all over that puppy, giving her all the attention she would ever need. But Derek didn't like that they were out here all alone. He needed to figure out what he was going to do to keep them safe.
That's when the puppy took off back towards her egg and the tablet, nuzzling at the electronic equipment. Derek got up and followed his floppy eared pup, her wing tips dragging on the ground as she tried to being the tablet to Derek. He bent to pick it up, turning it on and trying to figure out what the hell they were doing here.
