Someone needs to comment to Yakov asking him if dreidel is a euphemism for penis. Pleeeeeease. I guess I should say that although Jews make up 0.5% of the UK population, Judaism doesn't seem to have as large a profile here as it does in the US. Until I was 22, I had met a grand total of 2 Jews in my life, and knew more about Islam, Sikhism and Hinduism than Judaism. I actually learned about dreidels from watching South Park. So... other people may have different experiences based on their backgrounds but it would be totally plausible for people to not know what the hell Yakov is talking about, because I wouldn't have at that age. JUST SAYING.

Anyway, that actually wasn't what I wanted to post about. Here is Lee. He says hi, especially to the girls. I am going to do a post for him in a minute about who he is thinking of asking to the ball, but first I just wanted to say that as part of his being unable to say no to pretty girls thing, any girl who wanted to ask Lee first would get a yes. So if that is plot you want, just let me know. Also let me know if you want any of mine for anything at all :-)

Barney will ask Audrey, and presumably this will fall through at some point because of Adrian, and then he will ask Allegra.
Yakov will ask Alexa, and if she won't go, he will likely not try anyone else because he is not very confident. If anyone wants to ask him, go ahead. He will likely say yes.
Lee is open.
Mel is going to ask Cormac, but not yet. She will wait to be asked by someone and then be like WAIT I AM A STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN I DON'T NEED TO WAIT FOR BOYS TO ASK ME.

Who are you asking to the ball?

I was seriously going to have Ronnie comment on the dreidel thing. Mostly because I myself didn't know what it was until I googled it and remembered it from the Simpsons. Judaism in Australia is something I haven't encountered yet.

Ronnie isn't asking anybody to the ball because she is stubborn and dammit somebody needs to romance her and melt her heart.

Ahahaha ilu. Yeah, I know almost everything I know from American TV. Even the Jewish people I do know don't really talk about it.

Awww Ronnie. Good luck! You're going to need it with the guys we have in the game... Although I will say Lee was going to say something complimentary to her and then didn't because he remembered she hit Alicia, and he doesn't like people hitting His Girls.

Ronnie has no regrets! Except she totally does, even though Alicia did hit her first. Oh those Badgers and Lions with their pride.

D'oh, Tessa beat me to it. Cormac would have loved to crack the dreidel joke. And I have to admit that although the Jewish community in Portugal is actually considerably large, I don't know much about the traditions either. For years, Dreidel for me was just the name of a Don McLean song.

Right now Cormac is trying to ask yet-to-be-played seventh year girls and being laughed at for his troubles.
Hamish is still determined to spend the holidays in Inverness, and will get highly disappointed when his mother decides that he and Cass should stay and have fun. Depending on the circumstances (as Heather and I have been toying about the subject), he'll either go stag, or go with Larissa - as friends, mind. Oh, and he'll go in full tartan and plaid - none of that dress robes nonsense.
And Samir thinks he's going stag.

He should agree with her. Inter-house unity based on penis jokes ;-)

Aww Cormac. Mel will hit you round the head with something soon. You had better say yes or she will hit you harder.

Allegra will be wanting to ask Cormac... as part of the whole attempting to tell him that she likes him. stfu tradition. but... yes for obvious reasons that is not going to work out. And she'd hate to miss out... so she'll say yes to Barney, plus Barney is a nice guy unlike some people.

Cass is... idk... but he's going to be glaring at Amelia's date most of the night I'm sure.

Aaaaand Rémy is so going to ask Samir. Woo!

Hamish thinks he and Cass should go stag together. He's sure he's got an extra gala kilt for him.

And Rémy seconds the WOO!

The kilt, or the going stag? If it's the latter, then Cass won't be neglecting his date due to his glaring like Harry and Ron. :P

[info]emptyprefect

Both. :) Haha indeed. As much as he'd like to take a date to potentially make Amelia jealous, he's also kind of 'whatever' about the whole ball, or rather will be when he hears that she's already got a date.

So stag will be good cause then he has free reign to glare at the stupid french bloke and dance with whomever. ...and more glaring to be had at anyone who asks him why he's wearing a 'skirt'. though i think he'll refrain from giving anyone a Glasgow kiss....

I figured as much, but needed to make sure. :P

Good, Hamish says. We're Highlanders and therefore gentlemen. We don't lower ourselves to the level of Glaswegians. Hamish also says that if anyone asks why he's wearing a skirt, he'll make a point of looking down on their dress robes and ask why they're wearing a dress. An eye for an eye. XD

Hermione asked him too. Again, at some point after he did something stupid and Allegra's not talking to him, I reckon. (And maybe he's not talking to Mel because she made the team and he didn't because he's mature like that?)

[info]missunderstood

Yeah my answer was just going to be something like 'Cormac did something very Cormac... so they broke up.'... then I think the plan was that the Hermione thing was trying to make Allegra jealous... which it does, but mostly it just makes her really annoyed. she possibly develops a facial tick from all the glaring.

it's lucky death glares aren't real, otherwise Hermione wouldn't have been around to help Harry later with the horcruxes. :O

Oh, Cormac. I was going to say "never change", but I think it should be replaced with "change quick before it causes permanent damage to Allegra".

And yeah, we had agreed that he started hitting on Hermione to make Allegra react - so in a way Cormac and Hermione were both using each other.

Teenage love drama. :/

Now kind of wondering what it is that caused them to break up... and (aside from canonicity reasons) why he decides to use Hermione to get reaction out of Allegra....

Well, he does think Hermione is attractive, and he might remember how Allegra reacted when he said so. Plus they'll be in the Slug Club together.

CHO WANTS TO DO SOME MATCHMAKING, GUYS. I'm guessing most of it probably won't work out, but, if you want your characters to be involved somehow, let me know!

obvs Cho is going with Cedric
Ruby, I don't know! she'd be fine with going stag but I'm fine with her having a date, so

Hee! Feel free to matchmake with Lee or Yakov. Especially Yakov. *pets him* Barney is probably complicated enough already, but you could matchmake Mel as long as she actually ends up going with Cormac. I know Becca was talking about matchmaking Mel with Terence, which would work because she would so not take that suggestion seriously.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]seekingcho
2012-12-09 01:15 am UTC (link)
I think she'll be basing a lot of her matches on things people said in her girl talk post, so Lee and Yakov could definitely be involved! I can't think of a reason that Cho would think of Mel/Terence, though...

also there is a slight chance that Ruby might want to ask Lee to the ball? I'm not sure if she's going to want to go stag or not (is it still called going stag when you're a girl?), but she thinks Lee is kind of great, so if she does want a date he would be on her list of potential people.

[info]accio_barney

Aww Ruby. Mel kind of wants to matchmake you, but thinks that won't go well. Also, the only other lesbian she knows is Tamsin and she's not sure they'd be compatible.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]laal
2012-12-09 07:04 pm UTC (link)
lol yeah, Ruby might think for a hot second about trying to find an actual date for the ball, but Tamsin is the only other lesbian she knows too, and she's not interested in her like that, and there's no way she's going to risk asking a straight girl.

anyway I think she'd feel bad asking Lee because then he'd be an unknowing beard and she might deprive him of a fun night with an actual girl who might be interested. so she'll probably just go by herself, I think.

okay so, Cho is going to drop some not-so-subtle hints to Lee that he should ask Sophie to the ball. I cleared the idea with Carrie and she said she'd be happy to have them go together if that's what you want to do. Up to you guys, but either way, Cho is shipping it!

When should Barney ask? Do you want Audrey to say yes and then change her mind, or just say no outright?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]healing_magic
2012-12-12 02:41 am UTC (link)
I think she might say no outright, unless he asks her via journals- if he does that, she'll say "we need to talk" and break up with him in person. I'd actually planned for her to break up with Barney earlier, but I was waiting for when the Adrian apper got into the game. But that didn't work out, so I'm ready to get to that.

HIIIII. DID EVERYBODY MISS ME????

Stella goes with Stebbins and does naughty things with him in the bushes, ovbs. However, since Stella is Stella, I imagine that a LOT of boys are going to ask her. So, if you would like to have your boy ask her and be turned down (with a lot of embarrassed squirming, particularly if it is a boy she's snogged), do let me know.

Amelia will go with Henri the Frenchman. And probably bicker with Cassius at some point. And be Not At All thrown for a loop by her ex-boyfriend attending with THE VEELA.

Ava... I believe is going to be asked by a certain gentleman who will reveal himself in due course. She will have a fun time and not even worry too much over whether Jules minds that she is there with another bloke.

Elena will go with Anzelm's brother, Armand, bahahaha. Not sure how that is going to come about yet, but open to suggestions. However, Heather tells me that she would have had much more fun if she'd attended with the right brother ;)

Elodie and Cal will go together. Unless he does something massively stupid between then and now.

And I suspect that Gwen will go with Terence but Just As Friends because she is all bitter and emotionally guarded.
