Everything in the palace, mirrors, tapestries, etc., was adorned with black fabrics. All images of the former king were covered as well, offering respect to their former lord. Staff in the palace were there to show all guests arriving to attend the services, were shown to their seats for the viewing of the king, allowing for 'good byes' to be held and allowing for the family to be in the company of their loved ones.
After approximately 20 minutes, the guests were shown from the room and to either carriages, or to walk, as the kings' body was placed in a black coach and the processional began toward the Cathedral in Wick where the funeral would be formally done before the body was to be placed in the ground.
The service lasted an hour, Ernie sat with his mother and son on the side of the alter itself, allowing the grieving family to be separated from the rest. Pansy was at Ernie's side and the only time he left it was to help with the coffin being moved.
The actual burial was a private event. The royal family (ie. Ernie and his mother and son) were the only ones present for that part of the ceremony.
After the funeral back at the palace those that attended were able to stay for a meal and the ability to 'remember the king together'. Food was passed along by servants as h'orderves, before a formal dinner was held around 6 pm. Those that wished to leave after for events for New Years eve were given the regards of the new king.
