'This was it,' Carter thought as he stood outside of the school. He stared at the building as he took a deep breath. His wool hat still snug on his head. When he stopped by his house earlier that moment he had kept it on. He knew his grandma would freak if she saw what he did to his hair. He took another deep breath and pulled off the cap and shoved it into his bag. To replace it he put on a pair of sunglasses and pulled up the collar on the leather jacket he bought.
The jacket wasn't new of course, he could afford a new jacket. Most of his money went to new film equipment. He found it in a box of his grandpa's old things from when he was Carter's age. The jacket was still in pretty good shape and after dusting it off and cleaning it as best he could, it looked pretty good, a little worn, but still pretty badass Carter had to say. It was perfect, he wanted to look like James Dean, the classic rebel bad boy, if he got a new leather jacket the bad boy thing just wouldn't work.
He walked in the front of the school and put on that expression he'd seen James Dean use in most of his movies. That 'I don't care, I know you're looking but I got places to be.' He started walking down the hall concentrating on his footing. Carter had considered trying to actually swagger, but he had a hard time walking at times, so he decided not to push it. He kept his focus on not tripping, the whole bad boy rebel thing would be broken if he walked a few steps then face planted. He was doing pretty good so far.
He ran a hand through his hair, already noticing some looks. He had dyed it green, it wasn't a bright as he intended, when he did it last night he discovered he'd have to bleach his hair in order to get the color on the box. But once it was done it actually looked pretty cool. It was a dark forest green, if given a quick glance they would think he dyed his hair black but once the light hit it you could see it was in fact green. Carter knew his grandma would find out sooner or later, and he'd probably be grounded, but for the moment he was going to enjoy it.
His James Dean look was broken when he saw one of his friends. He waved and made his way over. Carter leaned against the lockers and crossed his arms over his chest, "So what do you think, awesome or what?"
