Caleb turned to look at the shower when she turned the water on. Getting cleaned up did sound good, however, he knew the smell of the blood would be permanently ingrained in his mind. It was Adrian's blood, his partner's blood...his partner who could be dead at that very moment. An image of Josie and the kids all dressed in blood crying over a closed coffin flashed into his mind and he shuddered. He had promised to watch over them and what did he do...he ran away.
Caleb turned to look at Alice and nodded. He managed to croak out, "Okay..." He rinsed his hands off in the sink first and had to look away from the pink water circle the drain. Once they were cleaned he peeled off his leather jacket and blood stained white t-shirt. It had smears of blood all over them from when Adrian had grabbed it when he made him promise to watch over his wife and kids if he didn't make it. The clothes he was wearing today he knew would be thrown away...even if they managed to get the blood out he'd never be able to wear it again. He grasped his shirt in his hands and his face screwed into an almost sob again. He made a slight choking noise as he took in a shaky breath. He let it drop next to his jacket as he brought a hand to his face then he turned to Alice. He wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her shoulder.
"It was meant for me Al...I should be the one there not him...not Adrian. He has a wife, kids, I should be the one dying...not him."
