Josie was pleased that he was joking back with her. It hadn't been like this for a while. Sure on their weddings and on certain holidays it was nice, but they both had their own responsibilities now. Jobs, spouses, and kids take up a lot of free time. She rolled her eyes when he called her 'Josephine.' "Then you should have gotten caffeine free Jacen, the caffeine is pretty much the same between diet and regular," she chuckled at his response of giving her the cooties speech, "yeah I think you'd already be contaminated with your girls and Annie. You are outnumbered, but I'm on the other end, with Adrian, Dale, and Jayden, me and Jodie are in the minority."
She shook her head at his offer to buy her something, "No, it's okay I have money, I was just playing. Memories of back on the island where I never had any money and you'd always have to pay when we hung out." She gave a little bittersweet smile at that, things were so simple back then. That was before everything, before Dale, before Alan, before...Ward. Her body went rigid with that thought. Damn it, she had just said that it was nice to not worry about him but here she went again. She ran a hand through her hair then distracted herself when the waitress came over, Josie ordered two baskets of fries, one to go. When the one to go came back she picked it up and stood,
"Be right back," she made her way across the road safely and handed it to Caleb, "Gotta make sure you're fed." He grumbled but ate the fries anyway. She made her way back to the table and sat down,
"Sorry about that, gotta make sure my bodyguard is fed."
