Alice grimaced and was glad she'd gone for the whole facing away from him maneuver as it gave her time to compose herself before she turned back around with a smile. "I don't know. I wasn't sure what kind of devious secrets you were accusing me of having."
Ugh, Alice hated this dance. She'd done it so many times, and it always felt wrong, but never quite so much as when she turned back to look at him with that stupid fake smile of hers. She hated it. She hated lying, especially to someone who had been so perfectly honest with her from the get-go.
She moved past him with the dishes and let her face relax for a brief moment, but the smile was back in place when she turned around to face him. "And, for the record, Caleb's not all that bad once you reign him in a little. He just got a bit of a chip on his shoulder's all."
