AC nodded and glanced in the general direction of where most of Alan's spirit was residing at the moment. He nodded toward it as if to let him know it was time. AC had gone over the particulars of this with Alan before they left for Josie's. The actual thing was easy to do. It was as if AC's body was made to accept other spirits in. All Alan had to do was remain calm, not because it was part of the process, but it would definitely make it a lot less difficult.
He took a breath and closed his eyes. A lot of people thought that there would be some sort of incantation in Latin or something here. But actually, not much really happened that normal people could see. AC didn't have to utter some spell nor did anything visibly happen to his body to let anyone else know that the union was completed. A few minutes passed where everything remained absolutely still as if two worlds were coming together in one and not a single sound could disrupt this.
And slowly, AC's eyes opened. But they somehow weren't his. Everything about him looked exactly same and yet, at the same time, it didn't. The way his eyes looked around, the way his fingers clenched and unclenched in his hands, even the way he swallowed was not his own. And finally, he laid eyes on Josie sitting there with folded hands upon her lap. And when he spoke, his voice sounded the same, except that perhaps it had aged a bit.
