Abby grabbed Carter's hand as soon as he held it out to her. She couldn't take it anymore. Abby felt as though every emotion possible at once was being thrown at her and her head was spinning. It was especially difficult with the emotions of the people outside getting bandaged up, starting to seep into the room with the intensification of her own emotions. And then all at once it stopped. If Abby knew that Carter wouldn't be confused even more than he already was at the moment, she would have pounced on him for a hug but instead she just took a deep breath and smiled a little. "Thank you," she looked over at Carter but the smile on her face from the relief of the emotions hitting her made her grimace at his reaction still.
She gulped and pushed her long hair back, out of her face. The good thing with Carter's power at least, was that she didn't have to worry about her emotions getting in the way subsequently causing her to set something on fire or move everything around with her mind. Abby contemplated the best way to tell Carter. She had hoped that she would at least have a few days before she would have to confront him about it but that idea was completely thrown out the window already.
Abby sighed and pulled the test out of her back pocket. She stared at it, turning it over in her hands and then looked back up at Carter with guilt written all over her face. "One of the kids out there is an empath and I was putting stuff away and I could ... well I felt the emotions of someone else. But there wasn't anyone there." Abby's hands started moving around frantically as she grew more nervous of how Carter might react to this. "And then I saw the pregnancy test when I was unpacking the latest bundle you brought back and ... I don't know! I thought maybe..."
Abby's breath caught as she choked back a few tears. With her elbows on her thighs, Abby buried her face in her hands and tried to calm herself down.
