Who: Abby & Carter; Abby & Morgan/Mandy
What: Abby finds out she's pregnant
When: April 2nd, 2042; afternoon
Where: Hellfire base
Rated: low-ish?

Wandering around the hideout aimlessly seemed to be what Abby was good at lately. Seth and essentially everyone within Hellfire refused to let her leave yet. Her scars from being stabbed weren't as pink and fresh any more despite it being about a year after the incident, but they refused to let her leave still. So, Abby helped Gabby with the kids when Gabby wasn't being taken on missions. They were cute as hell but Abby felt bad that they spent so much time inside, doing nothing but play with one another and occasionally learning. They were powerful though - some could already project his thoughts into others minds when he wanted attention and another had nearly burnt down the whole headquarter station. Luckily though, there was usually a power negator with the crew at some point during the day and the kids were generally happy.

Abby went in to the room where all of the kids were playing and picked up an infant that was crying. As soon as she picked him up, she could feel that she had just absorbed his power. He was... empathic? Abby rolled her eyes. No one wonder all of the other kids seemed to like to play with him and do what he wanted. Abby focused for a minute and tried to gauge what was causing him to cry, and after a good five minutes of trying to figure out how his power worked, she went a grabbed him a bottle. It wasn't as good as his mother's breast milk like he was used to but it was the best she could do while his mother was on the mission. Abby gave the bottle to the child and set him down in a movable play station that would prop him up while he held onto his own bottle, walking away to go straighten up.

As she started organizing the latest pack that Carter had gotten from Jimmy, she could feel the emotions of someone else. It was like they were right next to her, telling her how they felt sad, almost neglected and lonely. Abby paused and looked around to see who was closest to her but realized that no one was in the room with her, not anyone she could see anyways. "If you're invisible, show yourself," Abby said cautiously, looking around the room eerily. But nothing moved in the room and no one revealed themselves. All of the children were either happily playing in the other room or sleeping, so it couldn't be any of them. But who was it?

After deciding that it was nothing, just something wrong with the power and maybe just a person passing by on the street, Abby went back to sorting through things in the pack. She stopped though when she spotted a pregnancy test at the bottom of the sack. "That's not possible," Abby muttered to herself as she tried to connect the dots. The longer she thought about it though, the more of a possibility it became. The tests were meant for Gabby and the other women in Hellfire who were married - not Abby. She was the youngest of those tested on, she wasn't supposed to be pregnant. Mandy was supposed to get pregnant first and have kids, not Abby.

But she hadn't been getting her period since she came out of the coma. Surely that was just stress and trauma from almost dying though, no? Abby eyed the test as her newly acquired power started going off again. It was like someone wanted her attention, like someone needed a hug and some love. She looked down at her stomach for a minute before hastily grabbing the test and running to the bathroom. Abby quickly pulled up her shirt and turned sideways in the mirror. She didn't look like she was pregnant, but rather she assumed her abdomen was a tad swollen from what had happened. After all, there were scars littering her stomach already. Abby rolled her eyes and looked at the test again.

She debated whether it was worth it to use the test or not. On the one hand, it wasn't meant for her; it was meant to be used by Gabby just in case and if Abby was caught using it and potentially wasting it, she could get in a lot of trouble. But what if she really was pregnant and that person who was so sad and distraught, was actually a ... baby? Her baby. Abby ripped open the test and pulled down her pants as fast as she could so she could pee on it after it sunk in that she could potentially be pregnant. She set the toilet seat down and rested the test on the box, waiting the prescribed amount of time on it to see if she was pregnant.

As her watch chimed 4pm, Abby heard the door open and people rush in, in a frenzy. Her head shot towards the door and then back up at the test. Cautiously, Abby reached up for the test and looked at the oval where the result was. "Oh shit..." Abby sunk to the floor, staring at the test in front of her that glowed a bright blue with a pink plus sign on it. When everyone started calling out her name, Abby looked at the door and scurried to shove the box to the test in the garbage and the stuck in her back pocket.

Today was a bad day. It was going to be a normal recon day, but then Carter picked up on some information about someone being held. Another one like them...a very powerful one like them. He knew that Cobra would agree that they had to break him out and that the normal crew would go...maybe a few more. He always went to get supplies since of his power and Viper always went on missions as well. Although Cobra was their leader Carter had to say the Viper was the most deadly. When her existence was revealed to him he got to say he was stunned. Sweet little Mandy Chase had another personality. Another deadly personality. Since everything went crazy and the resistance started he saw exactly how dangerous she was. She had strength and could mangle anyone she chose and probably the most dangerous aspect was that she didn't care. She had no remorse for killing anyone...if they were a direct threat or not. All he could really say is that he was glad they currently were on the same side.

They had broken out people before, himself included. They had been sort of a routine thing and had sort of a method to it. The worst had been when Foxy and Hurricane were busted out. That was when Cobra got that scar. But today was bad too...so many had died or were in critical condition. He knew Mandy would be out for a bit and working so he chose to check on Abby after dropping the unconscious Hurricane off. He needed to see her, see his wife, hold her warm body close. Be thankful that he had made it, that he got to see her again, see that she was safe. Calling out her name he went to their room and saw a light in the bathroom. Carter threw open the door and swept her into his arms. Shutting his eyes he pressed a kiss to her hair as he held her close.

Abby tensed as the door to the bathroom flew open with Carter bursting into the room. She felt a mixture of relief but also anxiety. When should she tell him? Should she just blurt it out or should she wait? What if the government had followed them back this time and all Abby could do was sense and manipulate their emotions? She needed Carter's power but she would feel bad taking it without asking, especially because he knew that Abby could control when she took someone's power these days.

She relaxed a little when Carter wrapped her in a big hug and she sighed a breath of relief, wrapping her arms around him too. Abby relaxed even more when he kissed the top of her head, but then looked up at him. "How was it? Is everyone okay? Did you break them out?" It wasn't typical of her to bombard someone with questions like that but Abby knew that if she didn't, she'd blurt out that she was pregnant or demand Carter to hold out his hands and give her his power. She didn't want to tell him yet. Soon, but not yet.

While it was faint Carter could feel how tense her body was when he first hugged her. But he was pleased that she seemed to relax almost completely after he kissed her hair. However, she then started to rattle off questions, much more rapid that she had in the past. Had she somehow picked up on the slight panic he was in to find her after this mission? He let out a little laugh and gave her a gentle squeeze,

"Shhhh, just let me hold you for a bit longer before you hit me with the interrogation, kay?" He shut his eyes and took in another deep breath. After a few moments he reluctantly pulled back from the embrace and met her eyes, "Okay, now you can hit me with the questions, got to say I do have a few of my own you're acting a little skittish and I don't..." Carter trailed off as something in the trash caught his eye. An empty pregnancy test box. He didn't know why it caught his attention like it did, normally he wouldn't pay it any mind. But other times he had seen them they weren't in the waste basket in the bathroom that was only used by himself and his wife. His face paled and his body froze as he stared at the box. He made his way past Abby and plucked the box from the waste basket then turned to her. Maybe it was a misunderstanding. Maybe one of the other girls used theirs because she was scared and didn't want to leave the evidence in her room. "Abby..."

Abby sighed and rested her head back on Carter's chest. Maybe if they stayed like this for a bit longer, she could avoid having to tell him and potentially steal his power without him knowing. And yet that couldn't be the case, since Abby felt Carter pull away, so she let go of him. Abby focused for a moment and tried to use the empathic power the child had given her to keep two, or rather three, of them all calm but when her eyes followed Carter's and he saw the test in the basket, Abby took a step back against the wall.

Her breathing quickened a little when she saw how pale Carter had become and she took a seat on the edge of the bathtub. Stay calm, stay calm, stay calm, Abby kept thinking to herself as she watched Carter actually pull the box out of the garbage and turn towards her. Her stomach turned and she grimaced as the emotions of herself, the child, and Carter all hit her like a tidal wave. She couldn't handle this right now - it was way too much and she just wanted to cry or vomit or just curl up in a ball on the floor.

"Oh gosh," Abby bent over and stuck her head between her legs to try and stop herself from vomiting, as she tried to block out all of the emotions that were overwhelming her. After a minute, Abby sat up and leaned sideways, her head resting against the wall. She rubbed her temples, as if that would help the migraine-like pressure from all of the emotions disappear. "Can I please have your power?" she said through closed eyes, in the general direction of Carter. She didn't want to be able to control anyone else's emotions and she didn't have the patience to learn how to work the empathic power right this minute anyways. She needed to be able to talk to Carter about it instead of trying to sift out her emotions from her own emotion from Carter and the baby's emotions.

When Carter saw Abby sink down to sit on the bathtub seeming to have a physical reaction to his question he tried to stay firm. He had to know...was she or wasn't she. At her question he was a little stunned,

"Of course but don't try to change the subject," Carter held out one of his hands so she could use it to take his power if she wanted, "Why do you have an empty pregnancy test?"

Abby grabbed Carter's hand as soon as he held it out to her. She couldn't take it anymore. Abby felt as though every emotion possible at once was being thrown at her and her head was spinning. It was especially difficult with the emotions of the people outside getting bandaged up, starting to seep into the room with the intensification of her own emotions. And then all at once it stopped. If Abby knew that Carter wouldn't be confused even more than he already was at the moment, she would have pounced on him for a hug but instead she just took a deep breath and smiled a little. "Thank you," she looked over at Carter but the smile on her face from the relief of the emotions hitting her made her grimace at his reaction still.

She gulped and pushed her long hair back, out of her face. The good thing with Carter's power at least, was that she didn't have to worry about her emotions getting in the way subsequently causing her to set something on fire or move everything around with her mind. Abby contemplated the best way to tell Carter. She had hoped that she would at least have a few days before she would have to confront him about it but that idea was completely thrown out the window already.

Abby sighed and pulled the test out of her back pocket. She stared at it, turning it over in her hands and then looked back up at Carter with guilt written all over her face. "One of the kids out there is an empath and I was putting stuff away and I could ... well I felt the emotions of someone else. But there wasn't anyone there." Abby's hands started moving around frantically as she grew more nervous of how Carter might react to this. "And then I saw the pregnancy test when I was unpacking the latest bundle you brought back and ... I don't know! I thought maybe..."

Abby's breath caught as she choked back a few tears. With her elbows on her thighs, Abby buried her face in her hands and tried to calm herself down.

Carter felt the familiar tingling situation he felt when Abby took his power and he was pleased that she seemed to be feeling better but he still stayed firm. If she was pregnant...why was she so scared to tell him. He was her husband, they were supposed to be able to trust each other with anything. The only reason he might be upset is if it wasn't his but he knew Abby and he knew she'd never cheat on him.

Carter took a deep breath when he saw Abby pull the test out of her pocket. She kept moving it in her hands not giving him the chance to get a clear view of the results. Was it negative and she thinks he'll be angry that she used a test. That's why they had them...just to make sure. Also she was married and a woman so there was no reason that she shouldn't use them. But they were always careful, they both knew this environment wasn't ideal to have a child in. Also they were still young it's not like they were in a rush. However...that was why they got married so young. The fear that they might not make it to tomorrow. And after today...Carter realized that maybe having a kid now would be good. Sure it wasn't ideal but they always discussed having a family.

Once she started explaining about why she was acting so strange it made sense...an empath. He wanted to ask which kid but that wasn't the pressing situation and he was sure that Cobra would want to know. Whenever some of the kids started displaying powers he wanted to keep a log of it. An empath is always useful and their last one was killed today. She lost focus for a second and...he shook his head to focus back on Abby.

Carter's firm stance melted the moment she started to cry. He couldn't stand tears, especially hers. "Abby, come on, don't cry," he knelt down so they'd be eye level and he placed his hands on her shoulders. He saw the test still clenched in her hand and...he had to know. Carter slid the test out from between her fingers and turned it over. It was blue with a pink plus sign. His heart started to race and he fumbled for the box just to make sure. Sure enough blue with a pink plus sign, positive. It was positive. Abby was pregnant. They were going to have a baby. He stood up his legs a little shaky. Leaning back against the counter he stared down at her.

"Abby," he took her hand and pulled her to stand and follow him into their bedroom. Without warning he spun and swept her up into his arms then proceeded to spin her around laughing. He fell back across their bed with her still in his arms. Carter moved to stroke her hair away from her face and kissed her a few times, "Oh my god, baby, I love you so much right now, you have no idea."

Abby took deep breaths to try to calm herself down and wiped at the few tears that were streaming down her cheeks. As he slid the test out of her hands, she didn't even resist. He had a right to know after all, since it definitely was his child. And saying the words didn't feel right just yet, it hadn't sunk in fully.

She knew Carter wasn't violent but she still braced herself for some sort of backlash and closed her eyes to take one last deep breath before looking up at him to see his reaction. Abby bit her lower lip as she saw Carter fumble with the box and come to the realization that she was pregnant. She scanned over his facial expression and the way he was moving, trying to tell if he was mad or upset or happy. Abby couldn't tell how he was reacting to it until he pulled her into the bedroom and literally picked her up and spun her around.

Tears were still running down her cheeks but Abby sheepishly smiled as the two of them fell onto the bed. As she smiled through the tears and kissed him, she laughed a little at how happy he was and sat up so that she was straddling him. "You're not mad?" Carter certainly didn't look mad but Abby just wanted to make sure that it wasn't just him covering up how he actually felt about bringing a child into a world like this. "Cause it's okay if you are, you know." She idly ran her hands along his chest, waiting for his reply.

Carter propped himself up on his elbows at her question, "Mad! Why on earth would I be mad. Abby," he sat up completely and wrapped his arms around her waist. He rested his forehead against hers and whispered, "We're having a baby, that's a wonderful thing. I'm happy, so happy I can't really even think straight right now." He stroked cheek with on of his hands,

"Are you not happy about it, I mean I know it's not ideal or anything but...we've talked about this. You know wanting kids, a family. We wanted to give them sort of the normal family life that we never had. You know you without your mom and me without...well...really anyone, but anyway." He leaned in to kiss her again, "I know it's probably scary and that you have doubts, I mean I know once this euphoric happiness wears off I'm going to be scared out of my mind. But we're in this together and I've seen you with the other kids and I know you'll be a great mother, so don't worry. I'm here with you and I'm not going anywhere."

Tears started flowing down Abby's cheeks again but this time it was because shew as glad. At least Carter was able to admit that he knew that it wasn't ideal to have a child right now. But she was glad that he wasn't mad at her for being pregnant. Abby shook her head when he asked if she wasn't happy. "I am happy. I'm just shocked. And scared."

She nodded when Carter reassured her that they were in it together and that he'd be there for her the whole time. Abby leaned in and kissed Carter again. When she pulled away from the kiss, she leaned her head against his and closed her eyes for a minute, taking a deep breath. When she opened her eyes, she was still looking down right at her stomach. Climbing out of Carter's lap, Abby made her way over to the mirror hanging in their room. A cracked, dusty reflection looked back at her and she turned to one side, staring at her body.

It didn't look like she was pregnant with the baggy shirt that she had on, that masked her stomach. But slowly Abby lifted the shirt and looked at her abdomen. There were scars from the when she had been stabbed all over her stomach. She couldn't tell how pregnant she was from just looking though. Was she just chubby? Was her stomach swollen from the wounds that were still healing? Or was it all just the baby? Abby poked her abdomen a few times and then ran a hand over it to make sure it really was there, slightly protruding. She figured she had to be at least three or four months pregnant, since she was hardly even showing anything and it could easily have been mistaken for mere weight gain. Then again, no one in Hellfire really looked like they had gained any weight in the last few years and Abby was no exception.

Abby looked over at Carter though and smiled before she put her shirt back down.

Mandy took a few deep breaths and stepped back as those assisting her stitched up the last patient with critical wounds. She passed by the rooms of those with minor woulds and saw that either they were assisting each other or treating themselves. She saw Gabby follow Seth out of the room for a moment. She knew that Garrett's sacrifice today must be hitting him hard. Sure he exuded that cold, strong leader persona but she knew that deep down he cared deeply for each one of them, especially the youngest ones who basically knew nothing but this. He was lucky to have Gabby there, she kept him sane along with little Daniel.

Her heart ached a little bit at that thought, one disadvantage of her allowing Morgan to take control as the dominant personality was that she couldn't even consider having a family or a relationship. She couldn't risk getting attached or pregnant now as Morgan thought and Mandy never wanted to burden anyone with having only a few moments with her Mandy half then nothing when Morgan was out. Morgan was all about the fight...and sometimes she scared Mandy...a funny thing considering the things that Morgan did that horrified her, partially she did as well since it was her body. That train of thought got severed abruptly. Morgan always made sure Mandy didn't dwell too often on her alter's activities. She glanced around the room again, where was Abby? Probably with Carter, she could have alone time with her husband later, they needed her. Carter could help to, he didn't get injured...he never really could.

Mandy was stripping off her blood covered surgical gloves as she entered her sister's room. The sight that greeted her made her smile slightly. Sure at first neither of her personalities cared for Carter, but as time went on Mandy learned to like him...a whole lot. He adored Abby and treated her like a princess. She couldn't ask for a better husband for her sister. Morgan still hated him, thought he was a troublesome distraction that Abby didn't need. But she didn't hate him so much to dispose of him. He was useful out in the field.

Mandy tossed her soiled drugs in the trashcan in the corner of their room. "Carter, Abby, I know you probably want to spend some alone time together right now but we have a lot of people with minor injuries and we could really use your help." She put her hands on her hips as she glanced at the two. That was when she noticed the small white stick Carter had clasped in her hand. She knew all too well what that was. She raced over to grab the stick from Carter's hand...it was positive. Her jaw dropped and she let out a gasp as her eyes shot from Carter to Abby to the pregnancy test several times before her eyes teared up,

"Oh my god, Abby!!! You're pregnant!! Oh my God that is so...." Mandy's face screwed into a snarl as she felt that familiar falling feeling, "absolutely stupid!!" Morgan was back and she threw the test on the ground, "How could you be so stupid! Getting pregnant now is the dumbest thing you could have done." Her eyes shot over to Carter, "it was your fault wasn't it you little punk. You thought since you married her you didn't have to put on a fucking condom am I right, you ignorant little prick."

As Abby was pulling her shirt down, the door opened and her sister walked in. 'Oh shit,' Abby thought to herself as she followed Mandy's eyes and realized that she had just seen the test that Carter was holding. She was tempted to run behind Carter for protection but it wouldn't do her any good, especially since he was still on the bed and she had his power anyways. Abby cautiously looked at her sister. 'Well at least it's Mandy,' Abby thought, smiling at how her sister was reacting.

She was about to say something just as positively as Mandy was but then Morgan was shining through and Abby just sighed. When Morgan started to verbally attack Carter, Abby moved in between Carter and Morgan so that Morgan would have to go through her if she wanted to get to Carter. "Morgan, stop it," Abby said angrily. "Everyone else in Hellfire has gotten pregnant and their kids are all fine." Abby glared at Morgan when she called Carter a punk and then a prick.

"Outside." Abby pointed to the door, glaring at her sister still. "Now." Abby crossed her arms over her chest and waited for Morgan to move before she said or did anything else.
