Who: Penny and Open (to one of the suits possibly?) When: Wednesday afternoon Where: Coffee shop line What: Doing what an intern does Rating: Low
The line for coffee was almost out the door. It seemed like this new blast of cold weather had everyone shivering right on into their neighborhood coffee shop in order to warm up. Most actually purchased some of the hot, overly caffeinated and slightly overly priced drink. Some just used the place as a haven from the brunt of Old Lady Winter raging outside. Penny was lucky enough to slip in to the back of the line just as it moved up a bit, so she wouldn't have to wait in the cold. And even if it came to that, she would have just gone back to work with the terrible news that the coffee shop had run out of their daily afternoon addiction. True, The Mainelander didn't have too much crazy news to cover on a daily basis, but there were still those dedicated employees (like her boyfriend, she might argue) who liked to work themselves to death sometimes.
Gradually, the line began to grow shorter (or rather Penny was getting closer to the actual counter as there were more people crowding in behind her). The atmosphere at the press was bustling, and Penny was enjoying every second of it. Being there usually made her feel happy, not just because Sully was there, but because it was a familiar environment where she had grown up in. Hell, she was sure she had even gotten her period for the first time in one of the employee bathroom stalls. Now, she was actually able to join in on the hustle and bustle without too much fear that she was overdoing it. Of course, Sully's watchful eye continually reminded her to tone it down. They didn't want to make what they had done too obvious. And it was pretty frustrating for Penny, finally being able to run free yet having to hold back to protect herself and Sully.
"Hey Penny. Getting coffee for the office again?"
Penny looked up from her phone and realized she had finally made it to the front of the line. With a smile, she said, "Hey Casey. And yeah. You know how it is."
The barista on the other side of the counter nodded sympathetically. "You would think they'd move you up from that position by now."
Penny shrugged. "I'm an intern. It doesn't really matter who my parents are. I still have to start from the bottom and work my way up just like everyone else." She didn't really mind it all that much. Of course, she wasn't entirely like other interns, who all usually feared for their lives at the idea of doing something wrong and getting fired. Penny was comfortable with working at the press and already knew everyone there. This was only too easy for her.
Casey just grinned. "So, what's on your list today?" Penny used her phone and scrolled over to her list of orders and began to dictate each drink to Casey. It took a good two minutes or so, before Penny was able to get out of the way so the rest of the already grumpy line could place their orders. She simply stood to the side and worked from her phone, until she felt someone approach her and greet her.
