Who: Mal and Lucy
When: Afternoon
Where: Hobbs Community College Library
What: Studying, falling asleep, possibly dreaming?
Pre-Law just had to be the most boring subject in the world to study right now, didn't it? Mallorie was exhausted. For some reason, this semester had hammered her hard with difficult courses. Her job wasn't helping much either. They had taken up a case that was putting out depositions and requests for productions like a baseball pitching machine. She had been asked to stay late on more nights than she cared to remember. The pay was good, but the hours were long and tedious. Just when Mal thought she had some free time, her teacher would put up an essay assignment, or a subpoena would come through. She barely had time for sex, which was ridiculous really.
The library had been quiet for some time. Mal was doing her best to review her notes and double and triple check her sources. Working for a law firm actually helped when it came to knowing how things got done. That didn't make the work any easier or any less tiring. Mal yawned and stretched her arms high above her head. This was a bad sign. Three mocha lattes later, and she was still yawning and wanting to fall asleep. A long passage presented itself in front of her, and Mal folded her hands and rested her chin on top of them on the table. She read silently to herself.
It couldn't have been more than five minutes passed when Mal glanced around and realized no one else was around. It had been quiet, but there were still a few people sitting on the couches and at tables on the other side doing their work. Could they have all left at the same time without her noticing? A noise from behind her startled her and made her turn around. There was nothing there. Mal was starting to feel nervous for some reason. Why would everyone suddenly disappear? Had she missed some silent fire alarm or something? She tried to calm down. When she turned back around though, she saw someone standing in front of her and screamed.
