Who: Alex and Olivia
When: Tonight
Where: White Pines Country Club Restaurant
What: Fancy dinner
"This isn't the type of place you come to steal utensils, you know," Alex whispered across the table at Olivia. "They've got them all counted."
Alex nodded and straightened out his tie. It wasn't every day he took Olivia to a fancy restaurant like this. It was part of his Christmas gift to her. Family was important, but Alex wanted at least one night just with his wife, where they could eat and not have to worry about having a squirt gun pointed at your face. One of the perks of being a Bailey. This place, however, had Alex a bit on edge. On the outside, he looked excited, but on the inside, he was as twitchy as a squirrel on Skittles. His eyes kept darting from one side of the room to the other. His fingers seemed to be playing the bongos on his thighs, and he kept grinning over at Olivia seemingly to make sure she was still there.
The waiters would stop by every once in a while to change the plates and utensils for the next course. Alex would discreetly (or so he thought) motion at them to Olivia as they worked and made eye movements at her that looked suspicious. What had they served in his wine glass tonight? Or perhaps he was still suffering the lingering effects of the staff party? Or was it that he was trying so hard not to think about moving water around that it was making him slightly crazy? He just could not sit still. "Oh look, little breads." He eyed them with a raised eyebrow, as if at any moment they were about to leap off the bread basket and go Mission Impossible on him. He then examined the utensils in front of him. "Start from the outside and work your way in?"
He shrugged and used the fork on the outside to shish kabob a piece of bread. Somehow, he still didn't think he was doing this right.
