Who: Kaylee Ramsey and Ariella Silverman (Possibly Scott?)
What: Interviewing
Where: Silverman House
When: Thursday Evening
Rating: PG

Kaylee was admittedly a little excited. Really she hadn't much for job interviews in the past, but there were few people who could say that she didn't life her own weight around the theatre. She had started looking around out of fear that her hours would be cut back (even if it wouldn't get her to stay home any more than she already did). She had also passed her driver's test with flying colors even after spending the previous night in the hospital waiting room. That was still sad and she was trying to be hopeful for Penny and Johnny's sake. She was somewhat of a big sister, especially here lately. After all they had a good medical staff and were being careful by not having a ton of people going through her where she might just get even more sick. As long as she hadn't gotten some sort of super-bug though and it was just something that she'd caught around her house then they'd hopefully kick the hell out of it and she'd be okay again. Maybe still in the hospital for a while, but she'd survive it. After all, eventually she'd need a baby-sitter herself and at least Penny already had an idea of how to change a diaper and all of that. For the moment she was trying not to focus on that too much. Parents liked teenagers who looked happy and full of life rather than depressed and a member of some weird counter-culture movement. Hence why she had even gone over to make sure all of her dark blue nail polish was gone and had another one of the frilly girly tops that still covered what little that might be showing. She didn't think it really looked like a bump, but at least there wasn't the constant sick feeling.

She borrowed her mom's car after dinner, remembering she was supposed to be extra careful if it ended up taking until after dark. Not that she hadn't driven after dark, but it had never been all by herself. Eventually she was going to have to do it anyhow. Kaylee was doing everything she could to stay on her dad's good side though and tried to make sure she was straightened out and had a smile on before knocking on the door.

Ariella had to admit that she was suspicious of the girl who was coming over to watch Toby. The girl was young, still in high school. The kids in this neighborhood were different than what she was used to. Most of them hadn't been helping to raise younger siblings their whole lives like what tended to happen in the families Ari knew. How did she know that this girl could handle a baby? Or change a diaper? Or do anything shy of making out with her boyfriend the whole time she was supposed to be watching Toby?

Every few minutes Ariella looked down at the watch still on her wrist from working earlier in the day at the hospital. She cradled Toby in her arms and occasionally looked out the window, waiting anxiously for the girl to arrive. Ariella already had a whole interview set up for the girl before she was going to hand off Toby to her. After all, the screening process for a baby sitter wasn't exactly something Ariella approved of especially considering Scott had done it and she didn't really trust him most of the time yet.

When Ariella heard a knock at the door, she hurried to Toby's room and planted a kiss on his forehead before setting him down in his crib. Rushing back to the front door, Ariella stopped a foot before the door and straightened her long skirt and snood. She took a deep breath as she opened the door and painted a warm smile on. "Hi!" Ari stepped aside and opened the door for the young woman to let her into the house. "Come in; take a seat." She motioned to the sofa in the living room as she closed the door behind the two of them and took a seat at the opposite end of the couch the girl had chosen to sit on.

Smile... If she could ever use a bit of her acting skills, it would be this evening. She might have what she hoped was enough experience from days past, but not really a kid as young as Toby was before. She had been doing a lot of research however just for her own possible future needs. Though the last thing she wanted was for them to think that she was looking for an opportunity to practice her baby-raising skills on someone else's kid. "Good evening, Mrs. Silverman. I'm Kaylee Ramsey. It's a pleasure to finally get to meet you." From the short quiz she'd already gotten about various ways people had offed their own kids, she was hoping that she looked harmless enough. Now she was just hoping that she was dressed alright considering the conservative vibe she was getting. Maybe she should have worn a pair of lightweight pants rather than her shorts...

She made sure to wipe her feet off before entering and taking a seat farthest from the door. It left the other woman with less distance to go and her not looking like she was ready to run out the door at any moment. "Getting used to our little small town atmosphere around here? It has it's quiet times and it's less than quiet times, but you kind of get used to it after a while. Or I'd guess you would since I've never really been anywhere else." And that hopeful Junior trip to the outside world was already sounding rather impossible.

Ariella watched Kaylee's every move, from the way she didn't pay any attention to the mezuzah on the door of her house to the way she introduced herself. She seemed harmless but then again many people were good at acting. Murderers sometimes got off the hook because they were so good at lying and acting, so Ari kept her wits about her.

"It's nice to finally meet you, Kaylee." The girls name rolled off her tongue awkwardly, not being used to saying such an American sounding name. She smiled though to try and make it less awkward because she didn't want the girl to know that she was uncomfortable even having the young woman in her house.

Ariella quietly laughed a little at Kaylee's comments about the town being small. "It'll take some getting used to, that's for sure." She had already had a run-in with the gayest man in town and the biggest flirt in town, not to mention half of the teenage population that came to visit Ms. Zimmerman in the hospital. She had to admit that it was a little bit like home, except without the Jewish atmosphere which she so desired.

"So tell me about yourself. How old are you? Have you ever worked with kids before?" Ari tried to sound as informal as possible, like she was gossiping with an old friend, though she didn't quite pull it off as well as she intended to. Honestly, it might have been easier for her to just let the girl fill out a survey and hand it back in within ten minutes. She was just eager to judge the girl and decide whether or not she wanted to let her even look at Toby.

"Likewise, though I think I've seen you somewhere." Then Kaylee didn't pay too much attention to the nurses who were around unless they could direct her to the nearest restroom. She also didn't think she stood out that much among the visitors of Penny even if she was partly just cousin's-girlfriend and now mother to his child. It was hard to say where she stood with Penny exactly. "It's not so bad as long as you get used to the idea that half the town is probably going to know your business if you're the slightest bit public about it." Then when her husband had all the horny teenagers, it was questionable what exactly was in the ice cream and what the pair might be doing behind closed doors. However completely incorrect anyone would be in assuming much.

"Well I'm 16, and going to be a junior at the high school once that gets back in session. I've been at my current place of employment for about 8 years, which makes more sense considering it's my parent's performing arts theatre. I've done some baby-sitting in the past, but most of it does come from the theatre with taking care of some of the actor's kids while they're having rehearsals or the occasional times when someone might want to come see one of our shows and can't find a baby-sitter, but that takes reservations ahead of time since it's mostly the ticket people who volunteer for that since we don't have a lot to do after everyone is inside. I also do light house cleaning, I'm a licensed driver, and I know CPR." She might as well try and get her qualifications out there while she still could and without forgetting anything.

"I work at the hospital." Perhaps Kaylee had been among the daily crowd that pushed their way into Penny's room at one point but Ari honestly didn't know. She saw so many faces that she lost track of who was who's child and who had what power and who had what going on in their life. It was a lot to keep up with and she hadn't cared to memorize all of it yet, though she was slowly working on it. "I guess it's a good thing I don't publicize my life all over the internet then."

Ari took mental notes as Kaylee gave her a run down of all of her qualifications and the basics about her. She wasn't keen on the fact that she didn't have much experience with children or infants but Ari was well aware of the fact that if she didn't at least give the girl a chance, Scott would get upset with her. Damn him and his irresistible charm.

She smirked a little as she debated which questions to ask next. "Well that's all good and well, Kaylee, but have you ever changed a diaper? Or had to feed a baby? Or had to try and soothe a baby when they get fussy and don't want to sleep?" Ari knew she sounded intimidating and like she wanted to embarrass Kaylee but she really wanted to make sure that the girl knew what she was getting into. Toby was only a few months old and he needed a lot more attention than a small child; if Kaylee didn't know how to handle him, Ariella certainly didn't want to leave him with her no matter how responsible or intelligent the girl seemed.

"Ah yes. I've been at the hospital more than I would have usually liked this summer." Kaylee just smiled. Like it really mattered how much you actually posted on your journal when it came to the neighborhood gossip. People were listening everywhere, and she was fairly sure she was figuring out who some of the informants might be. At least when you gave information to someone and others were denying knowing it... Well it was curious how she could tell one person and suddenly was a anonymous Songbird Sensation. No need to go and worry her hopefully new employer with the idea that she was pretty sure they weren't going to be reading stuff out of her journal. Those did have privacy settings for a reason after all.

She was suddenly trying to think on her feet (or as much as one can while sitting) on a proper answer that didn't involve the fact that she had already been reading on all of that stuff. It likely wasn't on the top of a lot of summer reading lists of the upcoming Junior class. Then faking a little research like it was just for the sake of this job wouldn't kill her either... "Well admittedly no to the diapers as I can't really count my dolls, but there's a number of things I haven't done but it doesn't mean I don't know how. I could give you a pretty detailed verbal 'how-to' on diapers. I have fed a baby before, and pretty sure the only answer to that last one is patience. There's not really one straight answer unless you just know the infant really well to know from the cry what's wrong. Plus some things work for some kids and not for others as I understand it. Unless I can count burping a baby because one of the others hadn't thought of that yet after he had fed the baby and then wondered why she kept crying. Then I can probably add 'soothed a baby' to my resume." Kaylee brushed her hair back, hoping she didn't sound like she was just going on forever. "In general, what I lack in experience, I make up for with knowledge and dedication to do a good job. And even then I have a hard time settling for just "good" when I could be "excellent" instead."
