"Clear out, you know you're not supposed to be in here." Patrick didn't need to check IDs 99% of the time which had to be one clear advantage to working in a small town. He had known most of these kids in some manner since they were born and was fully aware of how old they were. Occasionally a few might slip by using their powers and a well done fake identification. There was only so much you could do when some parents didn't really care if he did cart their 17 year old back home so intensely drunk that they were puking in the front yard as their parents answered the door. Most of the kids that liked sneaking in there also probably thought he was a complete ass for doing anything about it. If the opinions of some teenagers were enough to depress him though, Patrick would have been in a lot of trouble. They would all be back by the weekend when he would be too busy seeing his kids to care as much. Someone else at the department could possibly do their job before one of these kids ended up with alcohol poisoning or a car crash.
He, on the other hand, was a little over twice the legal age to be in there and only planning on one drink before heading home for the night. It was a long day when you were working a double job and one of them involved keeping an eye on a young man who was usually not so open with his feelings anywhere that was easy to keep track. For a creative writing teacher, he really didn't fit the general profile Patrick always had in his head. He gave the room another scan before sitting down at the end of the bar and ordering a beer. "Let me guess, they all had very legitimate looking identification that had been issued to them by the state of Massachusetts."
"Of course, deputy. Of course, some were from New York, and I think I spotted a Florida one in there even." The bartender looked at him sincerely before going over to get a drink from his next customer. It was only then that Patrick noticed who was approaching him. "Charles, back island-side again I see."
