"Alfie and I need to have our own talk, so hopefully he'll hold off and I can take his in to have a word. Hot chocolate is the universal 'mom-talk-drink', you know?" Emma did not like Alfie having girls in his room with the door closed. If he was going to have a girlfriend, she was going to have to set some boundaries. But that was a subject for another day, or at least later. Right now, she wanted to focus on her daughter.
Smiling, Emma brought the mugs over to the kitchen table. So, Annie wanted privacy? Was this another adoption talk? Had she figured something else out? Fuck. What if she knew about the project? With thoughts going a mile a minute, she took a seat and waited patiently. But Annie chose to open with a question.
"Sure, honey. That's fine with me. Just don't stay up too late and ruin your sleep schedule." She spooned a bit of whipped cream off the top of her mug and licked it. "Now, what's going on?"
