BACKDATED SUSPICION.
WHO: Noah Riley, Macy Jones, & Seth Enders (and other funeral-goers)
WHAT: the funeral of Mayor Enders (among other things, like punching)
WHEN: BACKDATED to Feb. 21; midday
A thousand black-cloaked suspicions had found their home in the back of Noah's mind over the past week. They bred in the darkness and when he awoke each morning, he found more stacked up to the ceiling, their eyes glinting and winking at him, white grins curling upwards. He hadn't slept well recently, actually. That was most likely obvious to most who had seen him about, whether at work or wandering aimlessly. Dark blue circles hung underneath his sunglasses. He'd been chain smoking like it was nobody business. Like a train. Whatever! He'd fallen asleep too many times to count with a cigarette in his mouth, and piles of butts and ashes surrounding him. He hadn't been himself, really. He'd been lacking in wit and had more or less just occupied himself with untangling the confusion surrounding the mayor's death and Macy's ...hand in it? Or whatever the fuck it was.
Today, however, unlike those in the recent past, he'd dressed himself in a black suit, stuck on his sunglasses, and drove down to the funeral home. He went to see if he could find anything out. - But the mayor's casket wasn't open. He'd watched it lowered into the ground, heard women crying, and had kept his head low in the back rows of all of those who'd turned out for the event. He didn't need anyone thinking he cared about Mr. Enders. But he did need to try to get to the bottom of this whole thing. He needed to know why Macy and he were, apparently, although it'd gone unsaid, no longer together.
Noah stood a little ways away from the crowd that was beginning to disperse - the wake was being held at the Enders' residence, and there was sure to be some fancy food. He was busy lighting a cigarette against the wind, when, as he dragged his eyes over the headstones around him, his eyes caught on a very disturbing sight. A very familiar figure in black was walking close to another, both with their heads down. - He almost swallowed his cigarette in surprise. He hiccoughed, a little strangled, then set his mouth into a thin, firm line, and began to make his way toward the couple that was lagging behind.
It was Seth and Macy. "What the fuck is this?"
